They're not exclusively related to the Touhou franchise, but it's one of the series with most era games.

Run anchor.exe, japanese locale is advised so you don't run into untranslated text.
If you wish to manually update, delete old files aside the sav and dat folders to avoid any bugs.

You could try your hand at translating dialogue, there are guides currently in the TW folder (in #Translation) on what to do, not sure if it that folder exists in other games.
Another guide is:
1) Download an IDE. VS Code, for example.
1a) If using VS Code, install the EraBasic addon
2) Select UTF8 encoding
3) Open the ERB files and edit them
That way you can now edit files without much trouble.
The path for files to edit is usually the ERB folder:

You can also report bugs or typos here on the thread when you see them.
If you'd like to either edit or add your own portraits, the files are located within the 'resources' folder in webp format. You can use paint.net to edit them.

I never picked the third option because I feel like being in pain from the very thought of it, since I didn't touch her at all despite being essentially a combatant that you are free to train on from the very beginning. I know it also means missing out on her post-training event which is actually beneficial as well, but it's the same reason why I cannot bring myself to get the Moo Moo Moo 'good ending' for her. Maybe I'll just look into the dungeon erb and read up on the third option.

I'm due for a new cycle anyway, even though I'm only on Day 20. When I migrated my save from the Eng-Translation branch to the Eng-Release latest, the Advanced Balancing thing that was implemented in between the game versions locked me out from Item Synthesis completely, even though I said no to having used the Advanced Balancing options before. The Advanced Balancing options can only be tinkered with at the start of every new game, too. Maybe I can just debug the Item Synthesis back into my current cycle but I haven't tried that yet.

For the MC? Even if it's kinda boring I think you are best off as a devil summoner. You absolutely want someone with it's traits in the party and while you could use some other character NPCs and demons tend to have far better shit than most MC classes can get. I dont know what options you're talking about, but I did some more testing after updating (Was using an april build last night), turns out I can change the portrait but only if I did "All of them" and then changed the Status image, after which I get a portrait for every possible state, I can even manually change the transformation so long as I dont make it the same as the Status. Weird thing is though that apparently Devil Hunter MCs have 2 transformation portraits? Demon Transformation isnt an option I can pick at all, it's only changeable with "All of them". I haven't delved into the code enough to say this for certain, but would this have something to do with the Devil Hunter being considered a half-demon class internally?

There's little benefit to making the playing the Summoner, in fact I'd wager it's worse than using a random summoner. The summoner is the weakest link on the party so why would you want it to be the one person you need to have stay alive? Pure summoners have so little difference between them that you should instead go with something more practical for the mc like an Avatar Tuner or, if you got a few cycles already, one of the Expert classes or even a Devil Hunter, classes that are exceedingly rare otherwise, in the DH's case there's only 3 other characters with that class available and they're all late game only and tons of Expert classes have skills only accessible by the MC, or other very specific characters. Both, because it lets you bring more and a greater variety of overpowered stuff as compared to other MC classes. You pretty much always want a summoner in the party to maximize your apps, act as a item dispenser, and to use bullets. For other roles other characters can do it better than the MC can whereas NPC summoners aren't really anything special therefore the MC is the best fit for the class.

Yes. if you want to make it only translate a specific part, open the game's clipboard window and and just highlight and ctrl c the text you want.
A better way would be to use a program that displays the contents of your clilpboard and use that instead because you can't play the game with it's clipboard window open.
If you want it to only translate and detect only Japanese text on the fly, you might have to fiddle with the .js files in the folders of the program-backend folder. I have zero programming experience, so the best I could do was add a line with regex in textfilter.js to replace non-jap characters not adjacent to jap characters and menu characters with nothing, but occasionally it seems to fail. It also lets maps in, but I have no idea what regex would filter that since the maps use japanese text.
I haven't modified the main.js file because I don't want to break anything and I don't know how it works, but there's function with a regex there that seems to presumably detect Japanese characters, and I don't know how it lets stuff like menu characters through.

I could, but I'd have to use go through the maps and manually copy and paste what characters they use. I don't know what character strings the maps use.
Another problem is maps are also made of Japanese characters. It seems simple to just filter that out since they repeat but sometimes there's a few spots with single characters.

-Fixes an issue with the 『Lunar Capital Expo』 event. This event was intended to display slightly different dialogue starting from the second time it's triggered, but because it did so by setting the 1106 CFLAG, which was already used to keep track of the state of the 『Udonge』 event, it would not trigger the adjusted dialogue properly and could temporarily revert the state of the Udonge event.
-Puts a pause after the dialogue for moving into Kaguya's room so that the player can actually see it before it's erased.

Are the other Taoists ever shown to do the floor thing like Miko? She might be the only one who can move that freely and go everywhere, with Futo and Tojiko being more limited in their travels. Even if you didn't, as long as you can actually make sense of what's said in what situations, and you've got good grasp on english, it could work out. Some anons will propably insist that you learn japanese first, but give it a go and judge it yourself if the text you're writing makes sense or if it's mtl nonsense, like someone thanking you for being their bitch when expressing gratitude. Just make sure you're translating stuff from the newest release, no reason to try to tackle Reimu if she's around 90% done already. Or Marisa, who might be done by the next release.
If translating turns out to be too hard you could always just try to write something original instead.
