Hey there, /jp/.

I have recently discovered the awesome that is visual novels. Now I have come forth to you with my humble request. You know those recommendation charts for anime and manga? Is there similar ones for visual novels, where there's like entry level VNs, and then more complicated ones listed?

And in case there isn't one, could you guys tell me what would be some good entry-level visual novels? I have heard Umineko is pretty popular, but I figured it isn't the best kind of to start with, or am I wrong?

Also, when talking about visual novels, should I say "I am reading a visual novel" or "I am playing a visual novel"?

Pic sort of related; the VN (or demo of a VN) that got me into this stuff. It's also a very cruel picture so it gets your attention.

>> No.4104051

KS is not a VN. It's just garbage.

>> No.4104055

You could say some are played, some are read. Nobody's going to mind if you use either term. Even if you're saying "played" for a VN that has no interactivity whatsoever, nobody cares.

Then could you tell me what is not garbage? Since I liked KS, that is garbage like you said, I'd most likely go orgasmic over something that is not.

First of all, Umineko is a SN.
Secondly, Umineko is THE entry level novel.

Never mention KS on /jp/.

For starters play something like Yume Miru Kusuri or Wanko to Kurasou or Planetarian. Umineko is decent but I wouldn't recommend it for a beginner.

Call it playing or reading or whatever the fuck you want to say. It's not like anybody here gives a shit.

There you go, now shut up and get the fuck out.

If you're more interested in a story and just want the h as a side item, Type Moon VNs Fate/Stay Night and Tsukihime are good starters.

If you basically want to spend most of the time fapping, try Wanko to Kurasou or Yume Miru Kusuri.

Also, /jp/ has a few faggots who are massively butthurt about Katawa Shoujo, so any mention of it will get your thread sagebombed. And there's no mods, so /a/ or even /v/ will be better places to have KS threads.

Well, that's strange, because you quoted one of the few twists I saw coming (the "drug" of course, not the leg, I shat bricks with the leg). But the thrilling experience isn't only about the twists, it's more about the "how the fuck will they get through this ordeal" feeling during every arc. Picture related, it's the moment when I was convinced that Sharin was going to be fucking awesome. And it didn't disappoint me.

But overcoming the withdrawal effects to save your friends would have been much more manly.
Besides, they don't last over a month when getting addicted to natural drugs like weed or some related shit.
Hell, even Heroin's withdrawal effects lasts only one week.

And Hozuki could have simply whacked him with his cane or pulled a gun, no need to pretend being a cripple for 5 years if you already know you will get betrayed.

In total, it might be.
And it's not even that long. Routes by themselves are what, 10 hours at max?

>>4104422
The routes are only short compared to F/SN's. They're definitely longer than average.

>> No.4104498

Well my definition of "thrilling" is a bit different, but who cares.
Also, I'm not saying it was bad, just that some elements felt rather unnecessary, like the shit it pulls in the 3rd chapter when
everything is resolved and then goes back to square one for no other reason than to prolong the game. Granted, the scene during the meal was nice, but it felt like we've been there before

>> No.4104513

So you consider 40-50 hours to be SHORT?
If it exceeds 25 or so hours, it's quite long, especially for 'entry level'
