I wouldn't quite go that far, StrikerS had its good parts. Overall, it was subpar compared to the rest of the series, but there were quite a few moments towards the end that were actually quite good.

Nanoha and Fate getting older in of itself wasn't a bad thing, unless you were really set on them being kids forever. It's just StrikerS tried to juggled too many characters at once with more complex plot and monsters they can't draw for shit.

I think my favorite EoSD-related doujin are the Meiling-centric ones by Asatsuki Dou. It was quite refreshing to see a doujin manga that didn't portray Meiling as "bumbling semi-retarded gateguard" with gratuitous amounts of "LOLSAKUYA KNIVES MEILING AGAIN HAHAHAHAHA".

Try Asatsuki Dou's Save_the_Gate if you haven't already.
It's also a supercharged Meiling but without the coldness and murderous aura.
This Meiling is smart and witty and could beat up every intruder and does her job perfectly.
That might sound boring but it is because of this unusual version of her that makes it hilarious.

I like this because it outright encourages Remilia fans to commit suicide in hopes of meeting their waifu.
