Disturbing facts about the so-called l*arnjapanese.moe and his "guide".

0) It was MattvJapan's shilling on twitter that made him known to the public. and yet, he backstabbed Matt by leaking private conversations with him.
1) He doesn't know Japanese, nor we have seen videos of him speaking in it.
2) He's Turkish.
3) His half-assed "guide" is full of malware, and he scams people for donations.
4) He uses cringecord, a proprietary spyware app. He puts people who trust him in danger by forcing them to use it too.
5) He hosts his site on Github (owned by Micro$oft).

He isn't an honest person. He is a hypocrite who promotes the exact opposite of what he does. Stick to tatsumoto's targeted sentence cards if you want to get good.

Did I permanently scar my brain or something? I can’t speak Japanese…
I’ve been studying Japanese for over 7 years. I passed N1 language knowledge (50/60), reading (55/60), listening (40/60). I’m 28 years old, American.

I use anki and have over 15,000 sentence cards. I don’t really have trouble reading anything, but of course once in awhile I run into unknowns. My listening is good depending on what I’m watching, I typically understand 80-90%+ of everything I watch (anime, news, drama)

In short, I “know” Japanese.

But I can’t speak Japanese… Yes that’s exaggerating of course, but by having trouble, let’s just say I even have trouble introducing myself outside of the complete basics. Or even talking about my day, how I cooked dinner yesterday, what I wanted to do on the weekend, etc. Just random basic life topics. I just can’t do it.

I just can’t help but translate what I want to say from English to Japanese. Honestly, even when I’m reading and listening, I translate everything into English. I’ve been doing this for over 7 years now that my brain translates Japanese to English extremely fast. I’ve always tried to “not think in English” when reading and listening for years. Just my brain overrides that desire, and translates it anyway. I’ve read over 100 light novels, played dozens of video games in Japanese, etc, and literally just translate everything.

Sorry for just rambling on. But any tips here on how to start speaking better? I don’t have a speech impediment, mental problem, etc.

TLDR: Achieved advanced level Japanese. 15,000+ sentence cards mined from novels, anime, drama, and news. Could barely speak Japanese. I speak Japanese worse than a 3 year old.

Disregard SHIT advice frequently posted in these threads. Things to avoid:
・tmw/The moe way. Patreon scam run by a turkish tranny.
・Itazuraneko. Outdated, hard to follow, confusing for beginners.
・Anime cards (the guide by someone named QM). It recommends words cards, which are proven to be less effective than targeted sentence cards (TSCs).
・Core 2.3k. It is based on newspapers from early 90s and additionally sorted in a way that makes learning harder. Try Ankidrone Starter Pack instead.
・Anacreon. Anacreon is an infamous spammer. He constantly hijacks our threads to shill his shit.

Tatsumoto is the best guide. Be sure to read his religion/story.

this is a little different from vr where you're tethered to a pc. with this you're tethered to a phone, which is less powerful but more convenient.
this has a ton of potential. my main complaint is that it's wired. it's gonna burn the battery super fast and since it's wired, you can't charge your phone while using it (unless you have wireless charging). and cords are annoying in general. dunno how they would make it wireless as it's 1080p per eye at 90hz. they would probably have to use similar tech to the vive wireless adapter, but that adapter is even bigger than these glasses in the first place and gets fucking hot.

in any case, i'd love to test it out for anki reps, anime, and ebooks, but i bet power would be too much of an issue to be worth it.

Am I understanding this correctly?
In this sentence: "時の経つのは早い", the の in "のは" is necessary in order to put the focus on the action/event that's happening (that time is passing) instead of the whole phrase (passing time).
So "時の経つは早い" would be "Passing time is fast", meaning the act of time passing is by itself fast (incorrect), while "時の経つのは早い" would be "time is passing fast", which is correct.

its not just a good way of learning, it is the only one
if you aren't enjoying that novel try something easier like hukumusume or tadoku, or maybe manga, if you are looking for something in particular, ill try and hook you up
beyond that, no matter what you try, it will suck at first, for a while, theres no way around it

I have to disagree. Not only is the use of の instead of が common in nominalized phrases like that one, it’s preferred.

It seems like an odd use at first, but you’ll rapidly acclimatize to it until が starts looking weird instead.

Remember that が and の share almost all of their functions.

>> No.40458695

>>40458688
no they don't

>> No.40458722

>>40458695
Yes, they do: nominalization, genitive functions, subject marking are all shared. The only major distinction is custom concerning which is ascendant in a given function. Maybe it’s because I read a lot of older texts, in which the distinction is less fixed, and so I’m more aware of it.

The genitive function is the most obvious one. It’s why so many place names contain が (often written as ヶ) like 関ヶ原. It’s the old genitive function, now taken over mostly by の.

I don't think tatsu recommends them, it's just that if someone else recommends you that manga site, at least you'll know that you should be cautious if you decide to click on it.

the dude that treats her like shit makes her feel something
we live in a lifeless world of bubble people, so making people feel something is valuable, perhaps the most valuable thing there is
the asshole makes her feel something, is all.

1 まだ何もなかった時、神は天と地を造りました。2 地は形も定まらず、闇に包まれた水の上を、さらに神の霊が覆っていました。

3「光よ、輝き出よ。」神が言われると、光がさっとさしてきました。4-5それを見て、神は大いに満足し、光と闇とを区別しました。しばらくの間、光は輝き続け、やがて、もう一度闇に覆われました。神は光を「昼」、闇を「夜」と名づけました。こうして昼と夜ができて、一日目が終わりました。

Think of it as two curves:
According to the input hypothesis, you need to understand what you're listening to in order to learn from it. The more you understand, the more sentences where this is true you'll run into.
But on the other hand, the less you know, the more opportunities you have for learning. If you already know 100% of something, you won't learn anything.

You *need* comprehensibility. You can get this from something like visual context (Usually the case in anime, 100% the case in the "comprehensible japanese" youtube videos). So ideally you have 100% "comprehendability", but as low as possible pre-existing knowledge. The idea is you "comprehend" things you didn't previously know, because of context clues, and with some repetition subconciously "acquire" the things you understood but didn't previously know.

A coverage percentage is a bad way of looking at this.

Anyways, my recommendation is that you change your 50/50 hentai/anime split into a 33/33/33 split of hentai/anime/"youtube videos from the comprehensible japanese channel" and mine them all.
