Last night I had a strange dream seeing the use of a Japanese word I had never seen before. I was traveling Japan with my dad and we went to a sushi restaurant. I let my dad order in English but it was clear the chef was having trouble understanding what my dad was saying. They both then looked at me, expecting me to help him order in Japanese and so I pointed at the menu and said "これ、一貫ください". I ordered my own food in Japanese as well, using the 貫 counter verbally before eventually waking up.

I'm still a total beginner to the language and barely conversational, if at all. I have never heard, seen, or used this word before in my life, but after I woke up and checked the dictionary, sure enough it’s in there, and the definition is correct.

Has anyone ever had any strange experiences like this with their dreams, or an explanation to how this happened? Am I the only one that has a hard time reading many of the characters on here? I have literally never seen anybody on here or on the /int/ thread complain about it. English characters are perfectly fine, but the Jap characters are so small that I have a tough even seeing some parts. Many kanji require that I zoom in. I don't wear glasses and have normal vision. Some sites are fine, but here and a few other places make them so damn tiny that I can't even begin to to differentiate some of them.
Should I get a bigger monitor or something? My monitor is normal sized. Am I really the only one to ever have this problem?

i tried to pick up learning japanese again after a year and a half but there has to be an easier way than going back and forth doing the same cards over for an hour because you forget then 3 minutes later trying to bruteforce them

I did like 800 cards in VN core deck before, probably less than that because I'm pretty sure I was forgetting 15 previous cards for every 20 I "learned" after about 600. I guess I was going pretty good still though. I wish I hadn't stopped

Hey Guys,
There seems to be this condensing trend going on with DJT zoomers.
Of course everybody knows VNs are the best source for high quality AJATT time.
But how does one condense a VN for the best MIA immersion experience?
While working my weekly WaniKani I thought to myself, "What would Matt-Sensei do?".
I wanted to upgrade my patreon tier again and contact him but got distracted when my new Genki books arrived.
Finally the enlightenment came to me during a grammar session in Rosetta Stone.
So I partially rewrote the engine script parser and converted everything to HTML.

i started studying again in april after a ten year break. during those ten years i only watched anime without subs and chatted with randos on tinder. here is how i got back into studying:
1. download core 2.3k anki deck and do 400 new cards per day to jog your memory on the basics. set it so new cards appear before reviews as reviews do not matter. let the audio for the example sentences play. DELETE the deck after 1 week or earlier if satisfied.
2. get a mining setup going with animecards.site
3. pick one vn, one ln, one manga, and long anime you want to actively mine. work on all four of these together and decide which you want to tackle on any particular day purely based on your mood.
4. start the jalup or kanken writing deck. set number of daily new cards to whatever lets you finish in one year.
5. download condenser (see moeway resources) and condense the audio of ALL of your favorite anime. listen to a different series each day as background noise.
6. at some point early on, sit through cure dolly vids for grammar refresher.
7. at some point, sit through nihongo no mori n3-n1 grammar review vids (about 1hr each) for review/preview.
8. start a common name deck. set new card limit to whatever lets you finish in a year.

I just wanted to hop on here and ask for some advice.

I have wanted to get a tattoo of the Kanjis 勉強 (べんきょう) which translates to study/hard work for many years now.

I studied Japanese in high-school and I scribbled these kanjis everywhere because they really motivated me to get through my exams. These kanjis alone translate to endurance/effort and strength, which I found to be really motivating at the time. The idea that studying is comprised of strong endurance really stood out to me, and I think about it a lot since I work as an educator.
