Nasu is honestly such a humble guy. He’s never attacked fans for disliking his VNs/LNs, or even called fans dumb for not understanding his work or anything, he’s only ever expressed disappointment at the hate fans have thrown his way. He barely even acknowledges how much of a visionary he is as much as just complaining that nobody ever did what he did, which to me speaks more of a frustration with having to BE the visionary and face those challenges rather than conceited that he IS the visionary.

Not for me. Fate’s just gone on for too long and I’m more mad with every new boring FGO character added to the game then excited. None of the servants are remotely as interesting as Zepia is and his whole concept is way more interesting than any Servant. I walked in expecting him to be just another generic shounen protagonist but from the very first episode it was clear to me the show was structured around shedding light on the distortedness of his behaviour and criticizing him for it, and over the course of the show I grew to adore him. It's why it's sad to me people's first recourse is to say "Read the VN" rather than explain why he's a good character, VN and anime. People just have to accept that he's always going to be a divisive character due to his superficial characteristics but instead they've memed themselves into thinking that no-one can read the VN and still hate or not care about Shirou. It ends up creating an echo chamber for a lot of people.

Eh. Dunno bout Ryougi, but Bazett exists in the context of Fate/stay night, which has certain established power levels. It's rather easy to imagine a mage far and above those we see in FSN, ones capable of going toe to toe with some Servants even, given that we are shown three individuals (Shirou, Rin and Kirei) holding their own against Servants. Shirou at his peak has the physical attributes akin to those of Servants. Rin's gems can blow up mansions, and move fast enough that even Heracles isn't capable of dodging them and has to block them when Rin is rather close range. Kirei despite not having Shirou's haxx abilities was still able to go toe to toe with True Assassin, even if he was among the weaker Servants. From what is established, a powerhouse like Bazett isn't necessarily out of the question. Even people far stronger than her.

The issue is that Bazett is suddenly a composite of Rin and Kirei, both of whom the FSN VN goes to great lengths to wank off as being these massive beasts, except she is also better at their own specialized areas. And like that's not enough, she gets Fragarach. While 23. Okay that's really pushing believability. I get if she was some fairly old (40-60 years range for instance, perfect for peak magus potential) and massively prominent Clock Tower member, but she's 23 and an Association Executor of no real prominence. It feels like someone read through FSN and designed the perfect OC to le epically BTFO everyone else in the War (save probably Illya).

I wouldn't call her a Mary Sue by any means but it's still quite dumb.

I actually don't care much about power levels to be honest. I care far more about compelling characters, well-developed themes and an gripping story. Most power levels autism is dumb and should be discouraged, especially when people care more about it than the actual story. That doesn't mean we shouldn't talk about it at all, particularly when it finds itself sneaking into the story in dumb ways.

Like that scene in HA where Shirou is like duuuuuuuuude Bazett is like THREE TIMES STRONGER AS A MAGE THAN RIN WOOOOOOOOAAAAAHH. Bruh she can LIKE KICK OUR ASS IN A MILLISECOND WHILE USING 1/100000000 OF HRR POWER BECAUSE SHE IS THE GREATEST AND SHE CAN KILL GOD IF THEY FOUGHT AND AND AND AND etc. Really? The reality is that Shirou and Rin are absurdly overpowered for a bunch of 17 year olds. You can make a fairly strong argument that they are quite overwanked themselves. It would take quite a bit to be able to beat the two together, although Rin in most realistic scenarios rarely uses her trump cards that make her so powerful (she doesn't use her ten gems first chance she notices Heracles and she also doesn't use them against Illya in their fight) and they would actually be counterproductive against Bazett, so realistically you can make a character who can that without being severely OP (especially if it's situational, like with Fragarach and most people on Bazett's level would be fucked if either Rin or Shirou pulled out their big guns). But instead Bazett gets wanked beyond all reason. That scene really took me out of the story of HA honestly. It's like whoever wrote it just wanted to show off how powerful their heckin epic OC is. It's laughable and absurd. Fragarach already made Bazett reasonably powerful in the context of the story and it was actually relevant to the plot. The rest wasn't necessary. She didn't need to be better at fighting that Kirei and stronger at magecraft than Rin.
