A basic explanation for it would be, Beatrice is telling Battler a story. She is an unreliable narrator. There are inconsistencies and faults. That is why it's a mystery.

Battler (the audience) calls bullshit on some points. Challenges the author of the tale. The different colored texts are just ways of providing information to Battler.

It's just a metaphor for the relationship between Audience and Author in a story.

Each gameboard is basically just a retelling/reimagining of the same story. Since it is a story, concepts such as Knox's decalogue and other literary conventions can be used as weapons.

Breaking through the Beatrice's game can be likened to, literary analysis. Presenting hypothesis gathered from impressions and conclusions drawn from the text. The only difference is, Battler is actually talking to the author, that's why his theories can be shot down again and again, until he reaches the Truth of what Beatrice is trying to say.

So it's kinda like a long interview/debate session with the author of a certain book, and that certain book details the massacre of your family.

This is what I gained from EP 1-4.

What's the greatest fallback of the mystery genre?

Can there still be a mystery if nobody can investigate? Can EP 1-4 be considered a proper mystery? Did Beatrice even consider adding a "Detective" to her story? Or was it just a modification imposed by the new authors?
