As a non-gachikoi myself, I see it as a game where you have to follow certain rules in order for the game system to perpetuate itself, and two of them are obvious:

I'd have to throw away or at least diminish the idea of something being meaningful to do so, but I value the capacity of things to be meaningful to me. I don't want a world where I view connections as some sort of value comparison to other prospective connections. I value my ability to have a reason for making the "worse" choice because it means that I haven't become a person whose underlying principles come down to some bizarre cost/benefit analysis.
I'm sure it could be "better" but why would I let that idea poison whatever this is? Why focus on other stories being written by other people in other places? I don't love her because of other people, I love her because of who she is and because of who I am, and I refuse to be ashamed of who I am, nor do I want her to feel shame for being who she is.

I guess what it really comes down to in the end, is that I love her. And I don't want to be the kind of person who says "I love you" lightly.
