yeah i have the same goals and desires at 26 that i had at 16 except no closer to getting them.

yeah kanji can have a ton of different readings, like 生 has about 8 that i can remember on the top of my head
there's no point in memorizing them all, you will just naturally get it after knowing a bunch of words

but i hate this. im like 100 cards into a jouyou kanji deck and its so overwhelming. i cant keep track of every reading. i know it's worthwhile because im starting to see kanji i recognize everywhere but cant always remember the possible readings.

Migaku Kanji GOD addon which you can use to scan part of a sentence/vocabulary deck for all unknown kanji, it then makes recognition or production cards for those kanji and all their primitives.
it shows readings and example words on those created kanji cards. You can use this to study vocabulary since the addon makes sure you know all the kanji that will appear in the vocab cards you're going to do, I recommend it.
