Really? I liked them. They're messy and awkward and unsexy, which is what you'd expect.

Not sure, I haven't read the original material. There's a short scene where she says that's the wrong hole, and later while they're talking he says I've seen you shit yourself, I guess that's a reference to that?

The pacing and structure has been completely off. I don't know what they're trying to do. They could have just done a regular ドラゴン桜 type story where Kimutaku teaches the kids the true meaning of boxing, but for some reason instead they're given zero time to practice and then they lose as expected. Or they could have focused on the kids' personal lives with the boxing as a backdrop, but instead none of the kids other than Mizuno have any personality or backstory. I haven't watched ep 6 yet but the story went nowhere from ep 1 to ep 5, so I don't blame the network for pulling the plug.

I pointed out in the beginning how the first two episodes could've easily been combined together and nothing would've changed. It leads me to believe that they took the first draft of a screenplay and just went with it, along with all the flaws first drafts usually have. Weird to see such rookie mistakes in the writing as the main writer has lots of experience.
I have another theory, and anybody is free to call me out on it. But it could be that the initial draft of the show was all set and done but some compliance asshat showed up and told everybody that they can't air the show in this state so they had to do major revisions to the plot and reshoot lots of scenes just to get the show out. This is why everything feels pointless, clumsy and disjointed. Considering it's a show about boxing, there was probably a lot that the censors didn't want shown.

>> No.39914624

>>39911130
I'm not surprised the director didn't adapt it because in the manga he gobbles down a log straight out from the source, I'm just surprised he didn't hint at it or mention it verbally in some way.

Considering 今日から俺は was about nothing but teenagers beating the shit out of each other, it seems weird to turn around and censor a show about boxing. The timeslot is different though I guess.

Even from the first episode it's obvious that there's nobody on the cast who can throw a punch. At least the irritating tenkosei from Osaka looks like he's done some training. Mizuno's fight scene in particular was pathetic, those stick arms couldn't hurt my grandma.

Any TV-shows or movies that have either the whole plot or a subplot be around a mom banging her son's friend/classmate. There is a fair bit of this kind of content in a few languages; English movies and TV-shows, especially more indie titles. Spanish titles also have a bit of content like this. Koreans also have full featured movies dedicated to this sort of plot; with some softcore scenes thrown in there. For Japanese movies and TV-shows I can't find anything. Even when I search in Japanese all I'm greeted with is porn, which I don't want. I asked this question a few years ago and an anon said Japan has a handful of content like this, and that he will list them, but he never did, so here I am again after a few years.

Alright, Degawa corner oversea with a cutie, I'm calling Kawakita. She's the only one who can speak english after all. If you're not watching lately there's 2 new Degawa girls, the most popular one Yumeppe had not entered a plane before the show. Kawakita and the other 2 are called 古参 lately. I got that impression too and his films didn't exactly sets the world on fire or anything, regardless of what most critics said about him. If there's one thing i can describe this guy's works though, it's Cannes bait. All that meaningless buzzwords aside, his films are generally okay-ish to good. Our Little Sister and Like Father Like Son is great, didn't care much for Still Walking and Shoplifters though.

>> No.40025783

>>40024140
Just watch his movies, even if you don’t enjoy his style. Contemporary Japanese directors born between the 50s and the 60s and who made their debuts between the 70s and the 90s are the last great filmmakers in Japan, especially the internationally recognized ones. With every passing generation, the talented creators pool gets drier and drier. Filmmakers born in the 70s, while many are as talented as the ones who preceded them, there are still some shitters. The real disaster is the ones born in the 80s and the 90s, it’s fucking disastrous. What I’m trying to say is, you can never go wrong with a movie director from that era. Koreeda and his peers, like Kurosawa, Sono, Miike, Iwai, SABU, Tsukamoto, etc. crafted their own unique styles whereas the directors who came after them are mostly deprived of any uniqueness and I believe it’s due to the era they grew up in.

Great first episode. Kiritani's definitely related to the cult they mentioned on the news (the title of the drama hinted at that) and I think she transferred to this school to get close to the Yudas for some reason. I also think the Yudas' mother was killed in the cult attack. However, I wonder if Kiritani's the one who committed suicide at the beginning of the episode.

Don't know about good. After watching the third episode, I felt that the mystery element was not as strong as I had expected and the cases were solved easily. It's baffling how the novel won the Kono Mystery ga Sugoi award, perhaps that award has long gone to shit or every other mystery novel competing were shittier. As far as Ayase and Oizumi duo goes, it's not groundbreaking or iconic, just decent.. The drama is somewhat carried by the characters' interactions. I love how comical the women characters talk in the drama, using 〜よ and 〜だわ, pretty unrealistic but funny. I know I made it sound unappealing but the first two episodes fooled me so I had high expectations. There's still one core mystery to unravel. They revealed half of it last week so the last two episodes will hopefully be used to solve it without outside or unrelated cases.

I doubt you watched the drama first (the movie is a direct continuation to the last episode) and you're supposed to get attached to the SV3 by watching the drama first, but even if you did, I'm sure you wouldn't like it. I was hesitant to recommend it because I had a feeling you were asking for an action sci-fi movie and Patlabor live-action isn't that much of that. Anyway, I admit it's not for everyone, especially not the fans of the anime. The movie is both a remake and a continuation to P2 The Movie as the events are set 13 years after what happened in P2. He also referenced Hoba in P1 in Haibara's character. The climax of the fight with the Gray Ghost is a reference to the fight with AV-X0 in P1 (with the Patlabor's destroyed arm, open cockpit and restarting the switch on the back). Furthermore, as Oshii always do, he referenced his other works with the basketball having the name "ASH" scrawled across it. That's a reference to Ash from Oshii's Avalon. Such references made me enjoy it more. I know I'm derailing from the initial topic but what I'm trying to say is it's not for everyone.
>the only good live action Oshii directed was the Kerberos movies and talking head.
I'm a huge Oshii fag so I naturally disagree with your statement, Oshii never made a single bad work, live-action, anime or anything in between that includes the radio the Kerberos radio dramas and the work that made many plebs shit and piss their pants, Tachiguishi Retsuden. But like I said before, his works are not for everyone, specifically the ones he wrote himself and didn't adapt, so I understand where you're coming from.

That Urusei Yatsura episode was expanded by Oshii beyond belief. The Tachiguishi, The Fast Food Grifters, are very much connected to the Kerberos Saga with Moongaze Ginji and Foxy Croquette as well as other titles in different medias like manga, radio/CD dramas, novels and dissertations. Also featured in some other Oshii's works like Gosenzo-sama (1989) with Inugami and they also have their own series in Onna Tachiguishi Retsuden (2006) and Shin-Onna Tachiguishi Retsuden (2007). He also did feature some Tachiguishi thematic references in his Assault Girls series.

>jin roh
I still wonder how the Jin-Roh adaptation would have turned out if they allowed Oshii to direct it himself. The manga was fine and I’m sure he had a say or two on the art but Oshii excels in motion direction, hence he got mad after they stripped him from any creative control over the film and saw how different the final result from his original vision.
>urusei yatsura
I used to watch it when I was a kid so when I re-watched it again, it was both for Oshii and for the nostalgia. But as you said, Oshii’s influence in Urusei Yatsura is huge. That’s why I’m so against the remake. The new staff will never be able to capture the Oshii style.

I googled her, she’s gonna star in another short indie film releasing next year

It’s over for her. Hope she at least lands bigger indie projects.

>the remake
It's worse because it will likely be actively anti-oshii and try distancing itself from every oshii influence yatsura had, forgetting that the anime was so influential that it influenced the original manga too.
Even to a manga uy fan like myself, the remake simply shouldn't exist.

I have yet to watch this talk between Matsumoto and Anno. I wonder who had the idea of joining them both.

Either the subtitles file is fucked up, or your media player is crap.

> is there a way to fix it?

If subs bad -> find better subs
if player bad -> use a better player (mpv)
