Lunatic can be broken down to two word parts. Luna and -tic. Luna is simple enough. It just means moon. -tic is too, but it might not be clear what it means exactly. Dictionary.com says it means the same as -ic. -ic means to have the characteristics of.
Lunatic means to have the characteristics of the moon, if you really wanted to break it down. Kaguya-hime is a shining full moon amongst a sea of stars in her beauty. A lunatic princess.
Of course, nobody is going to use lunatic like this normally.
