Yeah, Otaku culture lost its appeal now and now appears soulless cashgrabs. I don't know what happened, in the 2000's it was all bright and soulful, now, its anything but that. I'm on the verge of calling it quits and doing something else.

That depends on what you mean by Otaku Culture.
If you mean /jp/, my answer won't be posted here.
If you mean Otaku Culture as a whole excluding /jp/, I say it already died. It's a corporate pawn. A billion dollar industry. It's just another one of my hobbies that ended up being extremely successful. I'm not upset about the current state, I'm furious. It's not possible to make waves or any other meaningful impact without either having a group of friends to work with that have skills of their own or selling your soul to the corporate world aka chosen by the algorithm.
It died years ago, but if you count as it being alive now, then no. That's not quite it.
Your priories are skewed.

8 guess when the only information you get from Japan is anime, visual novels, Touhou, video games, manga, doujin and other forms of entertainment media you tend to get a very warped view of a country that wasn't especially unique in any way.

It's hard not to lose that sense of mystery when you have the brain of an adult that can easily process things on a big scale and normalize them in comparison to what you already know. It's funny though that he sounds completely disillusioned with japan, there's plenty of unique things to like about it if you actually look into it. And if he doesn't like that stuff why is he on /jp/? Weird.

Otaku culture isn't dying. Western otaku culture is.
Just a bunch of retardeds craving for attention that only likes mainstream shit and thinks that being a "nerd" is fashion, but when finds a real nerd gets disgusted. Japanese otaku culture is still strong in Japan.

Otaku culture is hoarding useless information about a niche Japanese hobby. Someone who knows all the useless Touhou lore and character bios is a true Otaku, someone that watches the shitty shark play video games or throws money at the retarded meme bunny is not an Otaku.

>VTuber threads still allowed despite /vt/ existing, and also massive simp culture
Virtual cancer will never be contained in /vt/ as long as the same type of mods who blatantly "simp" for these ugly whores continue moderating the site like a twitch chat. The hololive general, an amalgamation of shit that floods the board every 6 hours, is easily one of the fastest generals even by /vt/ standards but is kept here regardless if /v/t is a better fit for it, which is curious because mods give the blessing to /vg/ generals to move here simply because they're too slow for their own board. At least some of the slow /jp/ virtual youtuber threads can be treated as generic idolshit threads that can go unnoticed once filtered but the main cancer magnet that is the hololive general is the complete opposite. That general could easily be moved to /vt/ but they don't want to deal with this glorified chat in their own board.

tl;dr unless someone infiltrates the mod ranks, a long and stupid process, this is as good as it gets.
