I find most vocaloartists sound very samey in their new stuff if only by virtue of HOW MUCH we've heard each of them. We're a lot more familiar with deco's compositional idiosincrasies than a comparable "normal" musician who started at the same time because for the first 10 years of his career he put out over 100 songs. While I can't speak for Project Diva, vocaloid's popularity wanes and rises all the time. After the initial boom we went very strong for like 5 years and it was starting to lose some steam until the PS3 games, then until Sand Planet (it didn't cause it but it coincided with ahuge rise in nico nico uploads). I don't think we're far off from all the bedroom musicians created in the pandemic to start making vocaloid.

On the complete opposite end of the specturm is me who loves playing this arcade rhythm game called "Mai Mai". Not only is it fun, it also has songs from all the vocaloids regardless of which company owns that particular voicebank.

This comes with three huge problems.

1) I can only play it when I'm overseas. There aren't any Mai Mai machines where I live.
2) I'm absolutely dogshit at it. I only play on easy mode.
3) The people who wear those fingerless gloves like a protagonist in a shonen anime aren't fucking around and will mop the floor with you. So as soon as I see one of those guys approaching I always immediately get off the machine. because they WILL play on the hardest difficulty and get frustrated that they got SS rank and not SSS rank.
