To any and all other anons who either have or are going to make the trek, how much did you save up vs. how long did ya stay?

Looking to stay for about a year, whats a liberal estimate as to how much I'd need to live comfortably throughout my stay?

I illegally immigrated. Cost me $50 to get the storage container ticket. Now I work in a bootleg fish market selling faked designer fish to shitty sushi restaurants. I share a studio apartment with three other illegals. It's comfortable enough so long as I get the inside half of the bed.
It's been about a year, I doubt I'll ever have the means to go home if I don't get deported.

Depends entirely on if you have friends you can stay with and if you plan to work during your stay. If you're gonna be there for a year, you need to apply for a visa anyways.

If you have a college degree and are N2~N1 level, you can apply for a CIR position in JET and work at a comfy local government office doing translation, interpretation, and international relations work. That what I plan to do in a couple years once I become 日本語上手 enough.
