i'm not sure how much easier recognition becomes going from traditional to simplified, but knowledge of characters includes being able to write them and it's definitely harder to remember how to write traditional characters or simplification wouldn't have happened. at any rate, the unpredictability and sheer number of readings for common characters in japanese is a much more important factor in the offset. it's reasonable to think both languages require about the same amount of knowledge

As someone who has passed the N4 (practice) exam I can confidently say...I have no idea, I don't really play vinnies, but most content I read has material in it that is N3/N2 so I would presume vinnies would be the same. I would brace to need to refer to a dictionary or grammar guide from time to time regardless of your level in case a character uses a rare expression or grammar pattern for stylistic reasons, but obviously the stronger your base the easier a time you'll have. Take a look at Game Gengo's grammar videos if you wanna test your knowledge on N5/N4 material. He's also working on N3 grammar vids at the moment. There are a couple out already covering some relatively common grammar points at that level, which he'll eventually compile into one long review video like the N5/N4 ones.

As I had said in the previous thread, I'm currently in the section of the Core2k/6k deck going over time of day, and only a while after I noticed that AM/PM use a combination of an outdated kanji for "day", and the kanji for before and after. ok let me explain what baby japanese is since many people seem to misunderstand. baby japanese is when the japanese is very basic like stuff that is used in day to day conversations. if you're conversational in a language like bunko likes to brag he is, then you're not actually that good since conversations are very limited in the complexity of the language, just think how easy the conversations you and your friends are, you probably don't use sophisticated words with your friends unless you're talking about philosophical ideas which bunko isn't, therefore bragging about talking a lot doesn't really mean shit especially when his n1 score shows how lacking he is in many areas.

you should only be writing sentences if you are at a point where you can figure out on your own if the sentences are correct or not
if you arent at that point yet then you shouldnt really bother and should just read more
eventually you will start getting a "feel" for what sounds right or not, you will not be perfect (obviously) but most of the time youll write a sentence and upon re-reading it youll figure out automatically that it feels off (although you might be unable to correct it to a more natural one)
tl;dr: just keep reading, stop worrying about output

you keep talking to people, you keep iterating on what you write, you pick up expressions and verbal structures that other people use, and you improve from that
the only "correctness" you should care about is if the people you are talking to are able to understand what youre saying (because language = communication = conveying a message)

And tonight's Anki went disturbingly well. Mopping up the last of the time-of-day nouns, and then some general useful verbs (食べる, 飲む, 見る, 買う). Nothing hung me up this time, despite having 見る, 見せる, and 見つける simultaneously. I'm also getting a LOT better at both remembering the appearance of kanji, and more specifically the radicals within (not by name, but more like I just remember the visual design of them).

back when i was grinding vocabulary in my 6k deck, i was able to learn 20 words a day with moderate effort (after some months reducing to 10)
given the same effort, i estimate i could learn 40 words a day in a language that uses alphabet and perhaps even maintain better retention
