I would start there, because basic spins are simply a crossover plus an extra arrow (the arrow not used in the crossover).
If you want an idea of how your body is supposed to move, try this:
>left foot, left arrow
>right foot, down arrow
>left foot, right arrow
>right foot, up arrow
A song that has really slow crossovers into a really slow (whole notes) spin is "This Beat Is..." on Difficult. I think it's a 7 or 8.

>> No.39478672

>>39478405
If you're breaking into 14's, then I definitely think that This Beat Is will be a good place to learn the spin.
If you want to focus on unlearning doublestepping specifically, but don't want to play baby difficulty (8), you can try Abyss. It has a section towards the end that's all crossovers.

Also I think I might make some video tutorials on these two techniques because I like recording things and I like teaching people new ways to play. It's pretty hard to describe some of this stuff in just text form.

>> No.39488340 [DELETED]

>>39487645
oic. interesting. i'll keep that tip in mind if i ever get a second controller.

in my opinion DP is the superior mode because there are more buttons than fingers so you have to keep moving your hands around instead of using some sort of static playstyle like i do with single. something about that resonates me and makes it feel like single play is sort of imm

but im really amateur so maybe im just not playing hard enough single charts.

>> No.39488971

>>39487645
im gonna take the chance to respond to your post as an opportunity for weird cringey public cathartic release because i think i might be a pathological liar.
i dont know why i lied and implied that i even have a single controller. im excruciatingly casual and play with keyboard. i dont know the first thing about reading even single play charts well. i've dabbled in double play but gave up because im thinking that with keyboard, it's a futile endeavor.

you can probably stop reading here. i dunno why i had to get the rest of this rambling out other than to dream about what i might get months from now... dont feel obligated to help me with the ideas in the rest of this post.

but i really want to get into IIDX deeper eventually and DP is sort of all im interested in although im poor and the cost has filtered me. $800 is a lot and you dont even get good switches AFAIK so it's more like $1000+. i play synth and i was already saving up for a real one like the Korg Modwave which is the same price and actually has resale value.

but anyway on the topic of window shopping what's the best configuration for a phoenixwan? at this point i dont even know which language refers to which buttons. "push button & springs" refers to the main 7 playing keys? or just the 4 buttons at the top? "microswitches" refers to the main 7 keys, right? or what? or is that how all the buttons are constructed... like both options refer to parts of every button on the controller? i apologize if this is covered in some resource somewhere and if you actually read this post you have my deepest thanks for bearing with me after lying to you all.

what about spring/switch weight? previously i made the mistake of buying a mechanical keyboard with really light switches only to find out that i want heavy switches to minimize accidental adjacent key presses. does the same go for IIDX controllers? is heavier better?

is a phoenixwan even the way to go for DP? or is the Real Edition Double better? i also assumed phoenixwan was better than Yuancon DX 5th.

Not that anon but ok. However, you only said that you wish you had 2 controllers, not a second one. And even if you were to say the latter, in this context it wouldn't make much of a difference assuming you were actually willing to buy one at some point.

Ok I've read the rest of your post.

"Pushbutton" is any button on the controller. A full button consists of a pushbutton frame, a microswitch, a spring to return force when pressed, and usually an LED+holder.
The actual button quality does make a difference, but switches are most important, so people often get Chinese knockoff buttons + omrons for budget custom builds. DJDAO should be fine if you want to save money.
Switches are responsible for button press detection and partially for the feel of the button along with the spring. 25/60 as the other anon said should be fine.
Pretty much everything here can alter sound of the button, including the LEDs.

There is always going to be the difficulty that stuff of a lower speed is going to have less dense slowdowns, so you have to power through when it comes to learning slowdowns of harder stuff.

why are rhythm games designed to scroll notes vertically? wouldn't it make more sense if notes scrolled horizontally as there're more pixels and screen space? it would also loosely parallel to reading real sheet music which is oriented horizontally.

>>39524554
that's a really valid justification - the notes scrolling "into" the buttons. this makes knowing which button to press more intuitive in iidx.

you've convinced me that vertical downward scroll is best with your reasoning along with another reason i just thought of: it correlates to how one would move through 3D space in the real world. a treadmill scrolls vertically towards you.

so it's sort of just monitors that are weird as they werent designed for rhythm games (except for games like sdvx)

and i forgot about taiko. imo colors and note size are kind of dumb for discerning note type but i respect that for what it is despite not liking it. and i guess one could make the argument that it's just one button therefore different lanes would be weird.

He used to post old DDR and SDVX data scores all the time and nobody cared. His skill has nothing to do with it, and nobody considers Stretch's garage setup to be illegitimate. In fact private cabs are something anyone should be able to pay for, as with PIU, but he publicly flaunts having e-amusement access while constantly lying about it and intentionally limiting access to a small inside group. Which is extra funny considering how butthurt a bunch of birdsite faggots recently got at the implication that having money and other such "privileges" that affect accessibility are significant contributors to how easily a player may acquire skill. This is probably a tired question, and it may seem like I'm just trolling, but I really don't understand the overlap: What is it with the prevalence of trans and communist in the rhythm game community?
I've never seen such a high occurence anywhere else. Is it just me? Or is it because I'm in the sows discord?
Slightly less related, but what's the deal with people into rhythm games being into, I guess it's "car culture"? I make friends with people who are into rhythm games, and I think "finally some cool guy to talk about my autistic obsession", and then they always start sending me links related to one of these things. argghh i gotta get something off my chest about pronouns.
im okay with calling anyone "she" or even "xi"/"xir"/"xe" but have a problem with "they" pronouns to refer to a single person. it makes it sound like you're talking about a large group of people all the time as if one person is able to represent and speak for this ubiquitous archetypical ethos of sorts. "No! Because you're not that important!", i think to myself when considering whether to respect desired pronoun use.

i.e.

im not false alarm fretting over nothing and thats the type of pronoun substitution they want, right?
at a glance it sounds like everyone hates something when it's only DJDARQ. i think this forced subliminal implication is intentional. but what do i know about English? prolly nuffin.

How do you guys stop your monitor from wiggling like crazy when you play
Even mild keyboard rhythm gaming makes my monitor wiggle around, it's even worse when I play DDR

>> No.39568334

>>39568259
Yeah I think there's something to that. There's got to be some causal link between: the desire to spend countless hours playing rhythm games/speedrunning/shmups, perfecting your craft just for the love of it, and mental susceptibility to some weird group of internet strangers shooting darkness rays at you that turn you into a girl.
I've always been relatively sociable (he says, as he posts on the rhythm games thread of /jp/), and all the people I played DDR with in the 00's seemed like normal dudes who just wanted to hang out. But now, I try to strike up conversations with people at arcades (when I go, which is rare), and they seem intimidated by me. I'm not a very imposing guy either, and I have been told I have a friendly demeanor and tone of voice. But these people just turn to dust and fold like an accordion if I say anything at all to them. Like, "Yeah, sure thing, please don't hurt me" is the vibe I get. I know this is typical nerd behavior, but it wasn't nearly as ubiquitous then as it is today.
In conclusion, I guess if you are willing to fold to even the slightest of social pressure (someone saying hi to you or saying "good job" if you get a really good score), then it's not hard to imagine that you could be controlled and brainwashed by the trans cabal.
By the way, I don't have any hatred for trans/commies/car people/whatever (idc what other people do with their lives), but I think there has definitely been an uptick in the number of people who are open about all these things in the past decade or so, and it's just confusing to me is all.

And yeah like the other anon said it's any type of "extreme" activity which attracts these folks, and rhythm gaming is without a doubt a perfect example. has a point. I would also like to add theres an eroding effect where groups like LGBTQ groups make it uncomfortable for people not in their group to continue being part of a community so a number of people who might otherwise join the community don't. (think stuff like saying playing ddr makes you gay/trans or means you are gay/trans, etc.)

Cars can possibly also be explained that rhythm gamers are generally bad with money. Like people go to the arcade a shitton and/or buy cabinets/shit like that.

Socialism for a mix of the two. Bad with money = horrible personal savings/wealth buildup. Onus shifts away from the individual building personal wealth. Also forces people who don't agree with the group think to shut up/not join. Hudson had a tweet not too long ago calling this out.

iirc the love live game is the one where you just click on their faces? i dont really know it well cause i tried it once and the music never synced with the timing on my phone.

to my knowledge, there's more gameplay mechanics in bang dream and the note "highway" is more traditional. it has holding and sliding among other things (i think project sekai has this too but ive never played), you can actually adjust the timing for phone lag, and im guessing its song selection is larger than love live's. there's quite a few covers and vocaloid songs if the originals arent your thing.
theres also D4DJ which has too complicated a playstyle for me to get into but has a large library of non rock oriented songs.

keep in mind if you want the most songs in any of these games and dont live in asia it may be annoying to go through the one time ordeal of using a VPN to make a japanese google play account so that you can play the jp version. at least with android

Nice, same here. Mine's all MDF but the arrow panels are polycarbonate. It's pretty good. I used FSRs to give myself some leeway, but because the arrow panels are actually raised above the platform instead of countersunk, and the arrows are so sensitive, I have to play on my tippy toes. I'm thinking of getting an L-tek, but I guess I could just use thick aluminum on the non-arrow panels (don't know what they're called) so that the arrows because effectively countersunk. But then I'd have a hard time getting them out, I dunno.

I used PUI switches, I have to admit the pad isn't very sensitive. There's springs at the corners of the arrow panels to prevent the arrow's weight from triggering the switches, and it's hard to get the balance right. At least it's easy to mess around with, just one screw at each corner, the top arrow needs the most work as it tends to get the least amount of "weight" compared to the other arrows.

At least it's been bomb-proof, no wear or maintenance aside from a bit of cleaning in ~3.5 million arrows so far.

>>39592665
I used to get shin spints, not from rhythm games though, from doing stuff barefooted. Shin splints are actually the foot arch pulling on the tendon and muscle that ties to the front of the shin when your foot is landing on a flat surface, it pushes the arch down (flattens the arch) and yanks on those muscles and tendons. If you strech out and exercise that, you fix everything and you'll never get splints again.
