It was to prevent her from making addressing anything publicly, I think that's very much safe to say without having to delve into conspiratorial hypothesizing.
As to why she would willingly give it up, while I'm pretty sure I have a good clue as to why, my answer would seem conspiratorial to tourists and maybe even some newfags, so instead I'll point out how one of the most wonderful things about her is how trusting she is and how she always sees others in the best possible light by default. That easily exploitable childlike emotional distance-eradicating instinctual faith in whomever she interacts with is why I fell in love with her in the first place, after all, and I think that goes for a lot of Fandead.
it just so happens that I was naive too in believing she'd finally made it somewhere safe from any who would abuse that to the extent where it could destroy her.

I'm not religious but the closest I've come to prayer recently is begging out loud to nothing in particular, and her pure-hearted trust not being broken beyond repair is one of the five things I find myself regularly begging for.
