I'd personally say Sakuya is a really bad character to start with - you'll get some random wins with her, but without really earning them. You'll win with random bullshit and it'll be hard to see what kind of stuff really works.

Alice is a little hard, but won't give you any bad habits, and remilia has a very hard learning curve after the start.(somewhat easy bnbs, but apart from that she's hard and the advanced tactics and stringsare *hard*) She also moves different from the rest of the cast so I don't think she's really a good character to start with anyway.

Pick anyone else, play a lot against good players (lose a lot!) and you'll learn this game

>> No.398078

That's a rather broad statement, especially when there are players like Tenrou around who are a goddamn terror with her.

The main thing is that her air game kind of sucks because she's sooo sloooow to attack of an airdash, and her movement works in partitions of sorts so that you _always_ know when you're in range or out of range for something. She does take some skill to use effectively against better players.

use 22D to declare when you're low on hp (when you get the chance to)
Don't try to poke with 2a so much
don't jump so much, especially on wake up. your best choice there is to block. 623 works sometimes.

Compared to SWR, IaMP is extremely unforgiving on timing combos and pulling off the correct key combinations to perform a move. For instance, sometimes I'd want to do a 236D, but it'll only recognize 6D and then dash forward. Same thing with other moves.

US East coast, I'm intermediate at best though. Never watched videos, never practiced combos, but I've played quite a bit.

Timeout.

To everyone who wants to check if they can host, use Caster's #8 menu selection and point it at mizuumi.net, it will tell you if it's ok or not.

Reimu basically has three usable spellcards. Orb level 1, Orb level 2, and Balls level 2. Level 2 column is a threat and not much more, because of how insanely, ridiculously punishable it is. Even if airblocked you get pushed outwards. The rest are crap.

Level 1 orb chains off of literally everything except 5a, and does good spirit damage on block. It's not hard to see the usefulness here.

Level 2 orb only properly chains off of a few things, but if blocked you essentially get a free INVISIBLE 50/50 on the opponent(since you can run behind it), and on hit you get Reimu's most damaging combos.

Level 2 balls combos off of all sorts of things, grazes(this completely destroys Sakuya's non-timestop supers, by the way), has a very short invulnerability period on startup, can chain with itself if landed cleanly, and can be used in the air for a guaranteed crush + damage if they block. If the opponent has used up his airdashes above you, you can also use it to force a crush.

So the level 2 card is a choice between up-front power or utility/versatility.

Well what the hell. I have the port opened. Why won't it work?

I'd be amazed if it did, but does this ip work?

If not I have no idea what I'm doing wrong here.

I'd like to get in on this, but I'm basically a beginner and my gamepad sucks so much I might be better off with the keyboard.

Anyone else near that level?

That's your local IP. No good.

Actually your external IP, 67.149.236.242, is working right now. I didn't typo it earlier, so I have no idea. Mystic router voodoo.

And it's fun to look at this time too. I'm guessing you're not the one causing your character selection to bounce back and forth from Reimu to Youmu.

That was a fun game whoever was Black Patchu.

I need to work on some more combos to take advantage of Remilia's melee pressure.

Remi's pressure has little or nothing to do with combos, they're just there for when you DO hit.

I just tend to confusedly assume SWR mechanics translate well into IaMP, which they don't.

Despite these past 8 or so battles with this person, it'd be nice if the Cowcaster colors were working. I just can't get a complete, working game now can I?

Combos aren't blockstrings, regardless of whether it's IaMP or SWR. Period. There are many mechanics that are different between the games, but, fundamentally speaking, this isn't one of them.

One is for damage, the other is to keep the opponent in control and make him either flinch or get guard/spirit crushed. If you are doing one when you should be doing the other, then you are playing bad. If the opponent is consistently trying to mash out of strings and getting hit by one or the other, then HE is playing bad. (SWR does tend to encourage this behavior what with its ridiculous 5aaaa crap, though. This does not make it any less wrong or dumb to do.)
