After 15 years of running any show would be on the decline. I doubt the movies will help as they are just fanfiction.net tier rehashes. I kid.

Haruhi will never approach Eva's popularity. As you can see from most statistics charts, Haruhi's popularity is already on the decline. By 2007, the hype that was emitting from Haruhifags convinced most of us to watch it, and once we finished watching and reflecting on it we started to wonder what we ever saw in that show in the first place. It wasn't the worst show ever, it was just average.

Well I liked Eva and after playing games like Xenogears it was easy for me to follow Eva's plot. Evangelion is easily one of my favorite Gainax animes of all time.

But to say it wasn't overrated would be a lie. The only reason why I watched it in the first place was because every magazine, poll, or article I read claimed it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. When I first watched it I thought it was average. It was only after I watched the end of Evangelin did I start to see it as an upper tier show. Eva wasn't even revolutionary for its time, unless you think emulating Gunbuster counts as being revolutionary. The only shows that I felt more peer pressure to watch was Haruhi and Lucky Star. But unlike those shows, Eva actually turned out to be good.
