Just search up a guide for how torrenting works anon.
Basically torrenting works on "peer-to-peer" where users connect to each other. Downloads are hosted by the people downloading, but they can stop seeding if they want to to preserve their own security. This means some people can seed from places that they can't be taken down from.
To torrent, you just need a torrent client (such as Deluge) and a torrent file. Alternatively you can use a magnet link that you manually add into the torrent client to start a download manually.
It's legal to torrent, but the downloads might not technically be "legal."
Because it's peer-to-peer, it's much harder to take down sites like Moriyashrine because the files are not hosted in one clean space and that space can change by the minute.

>> No.39203377

>>39203357
take down than sites like moriyashrine*
There are places that compile torrent files, such as nyaa.si, which are public. There are also places that share torrents privately, which means more seeders and more reliable downloads at the cost of availability for outsiders because it's very hard to fuck over people seeding torrents if you can't even get access to the torrent.

I'm not entirely sure, if only because of how big the transience of artworks and the right to disappear is over there. Piracy goes directly against that, it takes control of the work's distribution out of the hands of the artist.
That's what my armchair psychology tells me at least.

As much as I hate the translator I don't think going after him directly right away is the right call, that can come later when things are more clear I think.
He clearly wanted to be on good terms with japanese devs so he could pull this kind of a stunt and tried to make sure "his" work sold well, he shilled his translation work for Hinas trading game and Help me remember Satori-sama on /v/.

Now that he has his foot in the door he is likely seizing the opportunity this DMCA hullabaloo is causing. By having a direct line to the devs it's likely he is feeding them misinformatio and is fishing for easy work, likely wants the circles to take him as the defacto translator for west releases or whatever big dreams this idiot has.

If you really have to harass someone, at least be clear that you're doing it for them making content less available, not for them working with the creators to make translations.
Their way of translation is not a widespread phenomenon and it's not clear that it's even reducing the amount of freely available translated material. It may even increase it in the end, since their translations don't have much in the way of DRM, so they can be shared freely.

The anon who told him that piracy doesn't harm sales and is a service problem, dropping the typical links and research, basically got him to say "i had a feeling it was like that, but it might be difference with doujin stuff in the % of stuff bought"
Well, the main difference (which he should understand) is that there is none. Piracy would still be a service problem, it's a natural phenomenon occuring when digital items are hard to obtain, whether they need hoops to be played (CD players that are slowly disappearing, 3rd party sellers, high prices, shipping, translation) or anything else. You fix "piracy" by resolving this problem. For example, sales of Touhou on steam would definitely be higher even if it was something simple like letting it go on a discount during summer sale or such. Translation patches can be on us, I don't care, but if you don't fix SERVICE you aren't killing PIRACY.
And even so, providing piracy & service is a good thing because those pirates would not buy normally, but they still talk about the game, creating higher chances of other people buying the game via word of mouth or algorithm fuckery.

>He will singlehandedly destroy the community and he will applaud himself as a hero.
Most people earn clout by contributing positive things - OC, fangames and other varying contributions. This fucker meanwhile is patting himself on the back for tearing down years of contributions and niche games that are no longer even available for sale. I really don't get it. The only people happy about this are resellers who are probably popping champagne right now since they'll be able to price gouge hard-to-find games through the roof, which again, the actual creator doesn't benefit from anyways.

I'm more surprised ZUN actually followed through on killing everything too given that he's seemingly not cared about any of this up until now. In his defense, I think if someone files an official DMCA complaint and it checks out, you HAVE to defend your IP and take down whatever was filed against, even if you support the project. I remember a similar story about CCP, the guys who worked on EVE, having to kill a number of mods for different games even though they liked the projects and even gave approval prior because the mnods got DMCA's filed on them or something.

But I'm no lawyer, and the problem with my guess is that I find it hard to believe nobody except this fag would try to DMCA moriya after all this time. It's inevitable times have to change, I guess.

This is undoubtedly true. But words and videos can still have value as a way to bootstrap ones understanding of the danmaku.
I often find it helpful to break down a pattern by describing what it is doing to myself, and I also find values in other's verbal descriptions of danmaku.
These words are not the real understanding of the danmaku, so they cannot substitute playing the game, but they can help in reaching real understanding.

Touhou 1-5 I can see ZUN looking back on them as an old shame that he wants to distance himself from, but 6 onwards is the foundation of his series he builds from. His running manga Cheating Detective Satori even expects you to be familiar with these characters and the incidents that sprung from them. I'm curious how fans (Japanese or otherwise) are suppose to know about them without easy access to official works. Do they all just learn the characters from the funny meme videos or lets plays from verified owners of physical copies on Youtube?

The translator person is a massive hypocrite since he's friends with Asprey, a person who has done lots of videos on fangames he obviously pirates. And the PC-98 games which yeah man he bought those, I'd totally believe that.

Regardless the translator is easily one of the worst people involved in this. While ZUN is selling out, at least he made the games himself. The translator is going out if his way to destroy archives of niche shit for the worst reasons that you can see in his other tweets, talking about how it's "unfair to people who bought it" and to "just buy used copies which are insane prices that I happen to own". You can't reason with these kinds of people. He doesn't operate on a rational level like others. For him, the original devs getting momey isn't his concern. For him, other people being able to experience it isn't a concern (ironic considering he has a tweet complaining about gatekeeping lmao). For him, he's the worst kind of collector. Where it is not enough for him to own something, but imperative to deprive others he deems not worthy of it. You hear about these people all the time. European collectors who pay poor slavs and gypsys to roam markets and purchase rare games they own amd destroy them, so their copy becomes rarer. Japanese collectors of rare prototypes that destroy them because the idea of anyone else knowing it's secrets breaks them.

Piracy is archival whether people like it or not, and archival is one of the most vital things a person who loves media can do. In this modern age, where copying things is easy as is distributing it, there's no excuse for things becoming lost to time, no reason. Yet it's because of people like this translator that stuff sometimes falls through the cracks. People of the future will lose out just so people like this guy can feel special because his CD (prone to CD rot) went up $5 in resale value.

Hakanai, I don't have a twitter nor the desire to enter your discord which I'm sure is filled with underage idolizers who have put their faith in the wrong person, but I really wish I could send this message to you; you're a scummy selfish person and it's due to people like you there are so many lost movies, books, games, and prototypes. Any good you think you've done is counteracted by gatekeeping and trying to snuff out rare copies of old Touhou media, all for petty personal gain. You're probably not a religious person so read "The Parable of the Workers in the Vineyard". While it focuses on religious conversion, it's lessons on destructive jealousy easily apply to your warped "think of the poor collectors" mentality.

For everyone else, keep the tapes circulating.

The moriya copy only had an older version of the patch that did not have the endings, music comments, or a lot of flavor text. I never liked the games all being in one place.
Half the time they didn't even work so I just didn't download them.
I fucking told you all to back up the games as they came in the first thread. Why scramble now?

>> No.39215173

Now that I think about it, we've had a loss music collection of nearly every Touhou arrange that ever made it into the internet for ages. What took people so long that having the same for 2hu's enormous amount of doujin games wouldn't be just as good of an idea?

>> No.39215179

>>39215150
People are scrambling because we're realizing that most people hadn't been backing them up, and that some of these games have had under 100 people download them over the course of years so there's the fear that if they're removed that they could be lost forever.
Whatever gets people to start taking data preservation seriously again is a good thing in my books.

I take it you didn't visit /h/ when the panda was dying. People archiving or not archiving things over the course of countless years isn't the issue; it's getting people to actually be around and know of any archival processes in the first place. And that's widely spanning hentai as an example, how many copies of Shanghai.EXE's latest builds? are on computers compared to say PDP or any of Aquastyles games?

And then you have an incomplete seed, and while those are unavoidable it's not really something to encourage, but also this comprehensive list of fangames if it even gets off the ground which I hope it does but I don't trust modern /jp/ is going to at least be 100GBs. And that's a filesize to scare off a lot of potential seeders.
There's a lot of complexities involved though, and anyone whose used torrents for long enough has a general idea of what they are so there's no point to go super in depth about it though. I don't meant to discourage anons.

(The event's website no longer exists, since it was a time limited thing.)
It's a great game, though. I never realized it had a lot of fans.
I couldn't help playing through it while it was uploading to catbox. How does the scoring work? Are eating lower numbers just better, or is there some kind of combo system? We Rumia moggers should get together and write a guide or something.

I have no clue, I only got to level 45 or so. It seems like the same amount of hunger is refilled, no matter what the number is, but I don't know if the same applies to the score. At the very least I noticed that your max hunger goes down every time you're hit, and increases if you go into that sick rainbow mode. Unsure if it increases more if you eat more while in that mode or if it just increases a fixed amount each time you enter it though.

During the Dai fight you only have 3 spawn, and 1 of them is directly behind her so that'd be pretty tough to get to without getting hit. It didn't seem like they respawned, so that means you'd have to start the boss fight with nearly full meter, eat those two, and then beat Dai before it ran out. I honestly have doubts as to whether it's possible, or if the devs would bother coding in the ability to eat her in rainbow mode when it's so difficult.

You can't DMCA a torrent though. Having everything in one place works better when the problem is not avoiding copyright, but maintaining interest. A separate torrent for every fangame would inevitably end up with the less popular ones going extinct as people can't be assed to download them all. One big collection torrent makes downloading everything the default, increasing survivability in the long term.

You can't update a torrent, you can only make a new one. That's why it's going to take a while - you have to download and catalog everything first before making a torrent.
And I don't think there will be much of a reason to update it once it's done. The new fangames coming out are mostly on dlsite and steam, and can often be found on relevant pirate sites. What matters most is preserving the old stuff that can't be found anymore.
