New version of bgitools. The readme has been changed a little to reflect the new things in the set. Be sure to separate the BGs and the CGs because the batch files wildcard for *.bmp.

If you want to convert BGs/CGs, simply run the convert-bg-batch.bat file. This will zoom to 686x480 then crop the sides to be 640x480. BGs/CGs are assumed to be 24bit instead of 32bit. If this is not the case for all of the images then treat it like a sprite I guess. No more processing needs to be done after convert-bg-batch.bat.

To convert PS2 sprite rips, run alpha-ps2-batch.bat and continue the process like normal.

Typing :

- convert.exe rena2.bmp -channel rgba -background transparent -gravity south -extent 640x480 rena3.png
- then pasting "rena3.png" into AlphaConv.exe window, with BMP as target format.

MG doesn't have it's own soundtrack. It uses the original game's soundtrack. But for whatever reason, they removed certain tracks and replaced others. When doing the first music patch, taking music from the original game, it's easy just to compare tracks between MG and the original. The order should be the same and the majority of the tracks should be the same. Whatever is missing or replaced can be changed easily, since you would just have to match up the the MG list to the original.

But the PS2 soundtrack is completely different/new. All you had to do with the original was replace the few tracks in the MG, the game already had most of them and had them in order too. But in order to determine which tracks would replace which, you'd have to play through the ps2 game and find it out what went where, what track replaced what track. There's nothing for you to compare between the ps2 port and the MG game. You could blindly just throw tracks wherever, but then the music might not match with the scenes.

It's possible to do but it's a lot more work.

>the sprites at least have similar names to the ps2 ones
Oh no boy, they don't. "00229B2E.BMP" isn't related in any way to "sa_se_ha_b1.bmp", although they match each other. No choice but to rename them individually.
I've renamed more than half of the sprites by now, only Rena and Satoko are left. I'll take care of the backgrounds after that.

As for a voice patch, well...
The PS2 ISO contained 62396 .wav files ; just opening their folder leads to huge slowdowns or freezes. And you'd be supposed to listen to and sort all of this. Seems impossible to me.

Here's the Higu5-8 (Answer arc) sprites in NScripter format since there may be a port or whatever by the time it gets released. All the sprites are in the tati folder.

Taking a look at the files, it's like you said. The file names are REALLY similar between MG naming and the NScripter naming. Which makes it really easy.

I edited Rena in about 10 minutes with ease for the MG release since the names were so similar.

Anyways thanks again. That really streamlined the everything and if it does come to it, it will make whoever changes the file names for this easier.

Sorry to be a party pooper, but you have to resize the cg's and sprites only vertically. CG's are resized from 640x448 to 640x480, and sprites need to have the height increased a 7.1% (sprite.height*480/448) to keep the aspect ratio.

Ah, and I'd like to pack everything into an .arc file, so you don't have to paste 600 files into your game folder. I made one with "arccreate.exe", but the game doesn't take it into account. I tried to name it "patch.arc" or "data01500.arc", both are ineffective.
Does that mean I necessarily have to replace an original "dataxxxxx.arc" ? Then I'd have to reinsert the original files into my .arc as well.

To the guy who deleted his post : repacking everything into data02000.arc actually works wonders. I tried to do it with data01000.arc first, since it was a small file, but the game wouldn't launch at all.
Seems like data02000.arc is the only .arc I can freely insert the sprites into.

>>3928816
The patch will replace all of the sprites and approximatively 80~90% of the backgrounds.
The reason being that most of the PS2 backgrounds (which are drawings) attempt to imitate the original photos, but a lot of them are different, or even missing (e.g. toilet photos, geh). I tried my best to find fitting replacements for those, but it was just impossible in some cases. Hence I sometimes left the original BGs untouched.

I'm uploading it now, it should take about 30mins. I'll make a new thread or something.

BGI is one hell of a beast, since it's more than just a VN engine. In fact, all of what makes it act like one is controlled by scripts --- look at the files in sysprg.arc. You'd get a similar situation if you were to write an VN engine in Java. All this generality makes it really hard to figure out, but it also means that stuff like the minigames could've been ported to it.

tl;dr: VN content scripts are interpreted by VN engine scripts which are interpreted by BGI
