Upset and agitated anon here

I see alot of people are upset about the translation of Higurashi-When They Cry.

but i ask,why did MANGAGAMER took the phrase "When They Cry" way too seriously?

>> No.3915059

Because it doesn't have Battler to cry in our place.

>> No.3915063

Because they want us to cry

>> No.3915065

After they license umineko, witch-hunt will be forced to stop.

No they won't. Ryukishi doesn't have anything against two teams translating it. Sonozaki didn't drop Higurashi, after all.

That sounds reassuring,i just hope WH won't be forced to close if they demand copyrights.

but dammit i don't want to see how they will translate how battler tells maria he will eat her up in ten years...

..It will be very much like Witch Hunt's translation? What are you worried about?

>> No.3915161

I kinda want to know why they kept the title half Japanese/half English.

Conflict with the anime?

I tend to be a little picky on stuff like that, because trying to explain rena is like a red octupus is not very understanble to american readers like to it's original audiance.

and i bet they will "enhance" what he said to avoid anything sexual or otherwise incestful.

i just came to love fantranslations because they do stuff at thier own free time and they enjoy the story mostly. not to see stuff from people who just do thier jobs and don't care for sticking to the original.

Because Cicadas sounds dumb.

I guess, but i'd take "When They Cry" or "When the X cries".

another example of why i am cautious of official translations untill they show they did something right.

You are overly picky over unimportant stuff where the impact was not really lost.

I am not justifiying my habits as a fan,but a translation should be smooth to it's readers. sure WH still used honorics, and they are places where it counts but official releases that still uses honorifics. the english language is very exanpable. i am sure you can you can find enough ways to make phrases or quotes easiser to read and understand.

i may be counterdicting myself and i guess i should take a better look into Higurashi-When they cry. to see if my expectations turned for the better or worse.
