Barhe's argument isn't that you can't trust what authors have to say about their work and that you should let the text speak for itself, it's that there's no such thing as intentionality, full stop. It's not deep, anon. It's a trite message we've all heard before, and it's buried in a whale's worth of narrative fat. It's undoubtedly been done better by real literature, and in far shorter books. We learn about how he fell in love with Okabe when he stood up for him after a bunch of weebs started harassing him believing him to be a girl. Okabe explains the situation to Luka and tells him that he has to turn him back into a guy to save Mayuri Luka is sad about this but agrees if Okabe becomes his boyfriend for them until it's time to send the D-mail. Fast forward through the dates, Okabe begins to feel something for luka but knows he cannot be with her for two reasons: He must save Mayuri and "she's" really a guy. And so Luka tells Okabe to hurry up and send the D-mail before she breaks down and begs him not to leave her. Another lash of pain on Okabe back....How much more can he take!

Lukas chapter forced me to think on the subject of love, What is love? I may not have all the awnsers but here is what I believe to be love. Love is a connection with an equal, Someone who understands what it means to be human. Someone who is exactly like you since we are all narcissistic human beings, I have only met one girl like that in my life. The others were just repulsive whores, Animals really, Who acted off their primal emotions. Who lacked social grace, Who lacked the proper amount of pride and self-respect for me to call them an equal so I could never love them. Okabe and Luka had very little in common besides his chunni bit with the sword, Therefore love could never blossom between them. That was the fate decided by the greater hand... Penis or no it would never have worked out...

FUCK now we're onto the moeka chapter. I'll speed run this one since besides two cool twists I couldn't care less. Blah Blah Blah Okabe beats the shit out of a depressed Moeka and finds out who her handler was and it turned out to be... TENNOUJI!!!!! WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!! This came out of fucking nowhere!!! A proper twist that changed how I saw his character altogether! In short shit happens Okabe sends a D-mail using Tennouji phone to text Moeka to not go to the shrine. This resets the timeline to the final one...

Last chapter...
Okabe finally has the IBN-5100! He proclaims his victory and tells Daru to set it up to erase the D-mail to save Mayuri and to take us back to the B timeline! right before he get's ready to send it Christina tells him to stop being so chunni and then it hits him... In the B timeline Christina is dead... He swallows his words and tell them that they'll do it later and goes off to think...

Okabe is now forced to make a choice... Save Mayuri and in turn force Chirstina to disappear...Where she'll be forgotten by everyone. I didn't know what to do... I was going to save Mayuri No matter what but... Over the course of the VN... Christina... Remember what I said to you about love between equals... Okabe and Chistina... Are in love This was true. Okabe loves Mayuri but not in a romatic way, but as if she was her own little sister. He has grown to develop feelings for that @channer virgin and didn't want her to die... And neither did I. But in the end after talking with Christina and looping for over hundred years to save Mayuri only for it to fail did he accept what had to be done...

He told Christina the truth... And told her that he loved her... She told him to close his eyes and kissed him. She acceptted her fate and left to america and told him to erase the D-mail When he was finally ready to send it...She burst through the door with a smile on her face and said "Okabe! I lov-" *click*

...

Okabe woke up in the new timeline... and destroyed the time machine... Sern was defeated...The world was saved... Mayuri was saved... the only one he couldn't save was...her. Okabe looked up in the sky and shed a tear over the lab member who rocked his world and took Mayuri hand and walked towards the future...

The illusory Kinzo we see in the beginning of Umineko is, I think, a man of incredible pathos. Wrapping up his whole life's work, his whole legacy, his whole family in a colossal disaster just for the chance to see his dead love again is an incredibly sympathetic act worthy of a tragedy.
I wanted the story to carry that potential forward, to keep Kinzo as the central figure at the heart of the Rokkenjima disaster, with the strange appearances of Beatrice and the various tragedies all orbiting that central dynamo of emotional power driving events; with the perspectives of the children and grandchildren trying to fathom the meaning of what's going on.
Instead he's shoved out of that role fairly early on, turned into something with no purpose other than to help set the stage. He's exactly as present as he needs to be in order to create Yasu's mental issues, and no more. The Kinzo we get in Episode 7 is a shadow of a character, with all the grandiosity and power of his original presentation stripped away. His actions feel meaningless and empty. The doomed love of a mad king for an ephemeral spectre of his past has been exchanged for a stillborn romance between a psychotic and a blockhead, and Kinzo has nothing to do but confess a few trivial sins and die.
For all that his character was ruined later, though, I still thought Kinzo as he appeared early on was the most emotionally striking character in the VN, and I still want to see that character's love for the witch bear fruit.

So it turns out Suzuha has traveld back in time to ask Okabe for help in preventing WW3 from destroying the world! Okabe at first is extremely pissy because why the fuck did he just give up the woman he loved if they were all going to die in just a few short years anyway? Why should he even get involved! After Okabe is finished having his little sperg out Suzuha Tells him that in order to save the world they have to save Christina!!!!! OKabe jaw drops to the floor and asks how!? She is fated to die on that day how can they prevent it and how does it stop WW3 from happening!?

Well it turns out her dad IS the guy giving the speech at the beginning of the game in which Okabe heckles him for stealing his shit from John Titor. Which was really Suzuha which makes me wonder where this Infomation really came from? Apparently he figures out how to build time travel and escapes to Russia who grants him Asylum. The Americans fearing the Russians will use time travel to destory the past nukes them which leads to total destruction. Apparently he found out how to do time travel at the conference from Christina to make him proud of her! Suzuha Tells Okabe that if we can save Christina and stop her dad from getting the papers then we'll be on a new timeline where she can live since Okabe left the B timeline after he texted Daru so she just has to live past the time Okabe sent that message!

Okabe filled with hope declares that he will save her with the Time machine Suzuha has, Also it is able to go back and forth due to Daru living longer in the B timeline. he gets in and goes back! He makes extra sure that he doesn't run into his past self as to not cause a time paradox, He founds out where Christina is killed and waits there! He spots Her waiting for her dad and hands him her research on time travel! Bingo! He knows where he gets the paper from and as he trys to figure out who kills Christina it's revaled that it's... Her dad! He trys to stab her with a knife but Okabe intervenes and manages to get the knife away from him! He's still going after Christina and has her by the throat! or something I forgot, But Okabe thinking there's no other way charges ahead ready to kill her dad until H.E S.T.A.B.S C.H.R.I.S.T.I.N.A!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I still like Umineko - quite frankly, what is most remembered, the fun duell, Beatrice, Erika or all the weird stuff in the last two episodes? But I get your feeling - as I said, I really think, that they tried to to much stuff at once. The Yasu Stuff itself isn't bad, its a nice enough idea - but would need to be expanded upon, to really work. Which you can't because you have to keep the catbox somewhat closed - which was also a good idea, so that its still fun making theories, but that was also not perfectly executed etc. In my opinion, it would have been at this point been smarter, to make the magic and trick ending the same, the difference beeing what kind of writer Ange becomes. Either she becomes a fantasy writer and teaches children good morals that way, power of love tc. or of young detective series, which teaches children to think critically and see the world with open eyes - while in the magic ending, she keeps the illusion alive, in the trick ending she could perhaps find resolve in understanding the motives etc. Which I would argue, would work nicely, if Kyrie and Rudolf hadn't been complete sociopaths. Funnily enough, for all the shit you can rightfully give Kinzo - he clearly wasn't of sound mind since Bices Death, just a poor, broken, insane husk of a man etc. Kyrie, Rudolf and Rosa by that comparison actually come of worse.

He sees a blinding light and says that he saved her and that we're entering the timeline of his own will, the timeline of STEIN;GATES... and credits roll...


One month later:

Okabe is finally let out of the hospital, If Daru and mayuri weren't there to take him to the hospital then he would've died! Everyones lives is normal, There isn't any news reports of Christina being dead and her father had all of her research destroyed thanks to the fire! Okabe takes a walk downtown happy just knowing Christina is alive and with a smile walks into a crowd of people...And then he sees her. They both stop walking...

*She must remember that I was the guy who stabbed, I should get ready to introduce myself.*

FUCKING KINO!!!! Now onto my review of the game and the feelings I had for it and it's sequel.

I greatly enjoyed the game to be quiet honest, The characters were charming and didn't come off as annoying faggots that most VNs do. I didn't like how for the first like 7 chapters they built up SERN with twists galore and then just dropped it in the end making it not matter. It felt like they just dropped that entire story plot after chapter 8. I would've enjoyed the ending so much more if I didn't know of the existance of Stein;Gates 0 which I believed to be a sequel when it's really a prequel. I kept expecting the game to end on a tragic bitter note or a bittersweet ending but instead we got a happy ending. I want more of this series and I WILL be reading Stein gates 0 fairly soon to see if it's good or not,.

The unique horror of time travel is that You will experience many wonderful and terrible things and will never be able to confide in someone with the same experiences. All I know is if I had a time machine I would be a meance.

8/10 Pretty good story, Expected more from sern and more global impactful stuff but ended up getting a cool romance story with Time travel.

The idea for the trick ending is so neat. I've always hated how the magic one is the true one while being so extermely unsatisfying, I guess it can be explained with the last test beato gives Ange at the end of the game, to look at something that's outright false and say it's true, and was done by magic. however ryukushi forgot that unfortunately the average person is not delusional enough to understand it.
I really wish to see Ange become a mystery / detective writer now, god dammit. Ryukushi kept pressuring us to look at hollow husks of characters and humans with 'love', he showed us the absoulte worse of abuse and told us to forgive that easy no problem.
Being fair though, wasn't the Rudolf and Kyrie "Not necessarily the truth" ? bernkastel said that in EP7, and that she didn't continue because Ange had cut off with her scream or so. But then again I only read the manga in terms of confessions of the golden witch.

I have no delusions and I don't agree with the premise. However I think the ending transmitted his message well. Was the candy moved by magic or a trick? There is no absolute way to know. So you come up with the truth that fits you, both magic and trick are illusions. So Ange of the magic chooses the happy illusion, while Ange of the trick chooses the sad illusion. And the key is that an imaginary Erika is talking to trick Ange. Either way she believes in nonsense. Ange was too weak to see the truth so it was better that she picked the happy illusion over the sad illusion.

The message here makes sense and I overlooked Ryukishi at the time, giving such a message because it clearly came from the heart. Yet now with SotsuGou I think it's clear where that message leads. Into moral nihilism.
Regardless of if men can see absolutes or not, regardless of knowledge, there must exist a "one truth" that roots reality. The one truth that God must see. Otherwise there are no sins. Kinzo and every Ushiromiya have nothing to answer for. And everyone can live in a happy illusion. I will deny the Golden Land. Bern was right.

Going by the Kagurashi booklet, it really seems like it was meant to set up "Witch Satoko" as a separate character from Satoko and then she just fucks off at the end.

Although the interviews post-final episode tried to frame the final scene like she was attempting to live as a human with guilty about her previous actions, probably as a reaction to people's annoyance at her getting no punishment and seemingly showing no guilty for her actions.
