You mean shot types? A is the most entertaining one in my opinion because of its movement speed, C is also good because of how it melts everything with its firepower. B is more a "worst of both worlds" than "best of", but it's probably the best choice for starting.
Try a couple runs with each and you'll understand.

Personally I didn't particularly mind the "everyone in Gensokyo is gay" headcanon when it was just yurifags, it wasn't until transvestites started taking it seriously and spamming 2hus with alphabet flags alongside "(X character) is (Y made-up sexuality)!" that it started to become annoying. Most of us enjoy Touhou as a form of escapism, the very last thing we'd want is for ham-fisted identity politics to become involved.

Hold your horses. Touhou threads on /v/ have the same type of low quality image dumping and lewdposting. Gameplay and lore discussion interspersed too of course, so consider them an amalgamation of stuff you'd find here at a much faster pace.
It really depends on your patience and which you can tolerate more: /v/fags or /vt/eens.
