Standing up for yourself isn't easy when you feel like your bullies could kill you if you did anything. Plus, there were multiple bullies and one Aeka. It's like being held at gunpoint by 7 different guys at the same time. Sure, if you have a gun yourself you could shoot one, but the other 6 will destroy you before anything else can happen.

Most 'bullies' work in groups - the case in YMK is no different from the norm - though a bit extreme in the outcomes.

Being bullied to begin with is an outcome of something that makes it clear you'll be an easy target to harass (or you do something to piss someone who is a bully off, which is again your own fault). The moment you show otherwise, it stops, or at the very least will not get worse - and even if it gets worse, you won't be killed or maimed for it 99.99999% of the time.

It's not about magically making it stop it's about standing up for yourself for, well, yourself.

If you don't have the integrity and courage to even handle those situations without just letting it happen then you don't deserve any better.

People who get bullied are not victims, they are the cause of their own problem.
