How about we split this general into just Movie and just TV? It seems more and more people from other boards are coming in and try to hijack the thread to their interests while the regulars try to discuss what's traditionally been discussed here.

I'm a regular here since before this thread turned into a general and I only watch dramas and variety shows, I think you're paranoid. We have people who talk about their seasonal dramas almost everyday, we have people who talk about Suiyoubi almost every week and about year end variety shows every year end. Everyone here discusses their interests without stepping on the other's toes, why make a fuss out of it? If it was for me, I’d close that thread about directors and forward all the discussions there to this general. This general isn't even active enough to justify a split. Go look at the more active generals of /jp/ who got different types of fandoms, even with the daily shitflinging between them, they don't split, the mods won't allow it anyway. This general should stay the way it is now, it's perfect and doesn't need changes.

Hanzawa Naoki
Lone banker is consistently put against all odds solely for delivering fair banking practices. It starts off as direct social commentary on how superiors in companies keep screwing over subordinates by making them take the blame for their own fuck ups. However as the story unfolds, it becomes a larger tale about the bias of governments and institutions have against private companies/enterprise. Hanzawa has to navigate the web of corruption to help individual businesses caught in the traps of said entities.

Tetsu no Hone
Due to regulations, the construction industry as a whole is forced to partake in bid rigging to get big government contracts. The main protagonist comes into the industry with wide eyes but is slowly pummeled down by reality and the corruption he's forced to partake in.

Watched Tony Takitani yesterday, funny hearing Hidetoshi Nishijima do the narration, him and Murakami really go hand in hand. Great movie by the way, loved the way Ichikawa framed the characters, just kinda protruding into the void, blocking them away from the camera, unmoored, like the hollow shells they are. I should check out more of his movies.

As someone who read the novel before watching the film, it was a great experience. Gotta love the nostalgic early 00's atmosphere the film radiated. Ichi Sakamoto's BGM and Nishijima Hidetoshi's narration were in tremendous harmony with the overall atmosphere of the work, which is filled with a sense of silence and loss. The loneliness, the calmness, the stoicism, the being of the characters and the story just flow beautifully. The side-scrolling visuals are like turning the pages of the novel itself and I felt as if I had somehow wandered into the world of Haruki Murakami's novel which was great. The direction style of having the characters speak as if they were taking over Nishijima's narration was brilliant. I would have liked to see Tony Takitani played by Nishijima, who has good chemistry with Murakami's work.

Much like the teen movies of this era, this movie follows certain cliches of teen movies of its era. It may not be to everyone's taste but I liked some parts of it mainly because I have had my own experience of being halfway through school when a storm came in. By being locked in, the storm outside the window is synchronized with the adolescent's outburst, very beautifully shot and it was nice to create a festive space (Rebecca Solnit style) in the midst of a disaster.

The final shot of Kitano staring off hit me like a ton of bricks. Then I read up on the movie more and find out Kikujiro, the character, was based on his father and I'm like, fuck, of course. The film starts out as a gangster epic but slowly becomes a sappy melodrama. By the end, it seems everyone is sad and crying which is not your typical yakuza flick. A good advice: get something that's free download and has many leeches first, maybe even a few torrents like that. Doesn't have to be a thing that you want to watch, it's only your stepping stone of sorts.
Seed that all the time you can, that way you'll build a good ratio so you'll have some room for downloading the things that you really want without worrying about being demoted and having your download access disabled.
Also be sure to configure your client correctly. Read the guides and FAQs on the website. One thing I'd like to add is about your connection settings. Some clients announce your stats to the tracker through all available network interfaces, it can lead to doubling or even tripling your download and you definitely don't want that. Be sure to explicitly set exactly one interface and IP that you're using in the client.

The cast is good, especially if you wanna watch all these actors when they were kids. However, the story is a mess. The forced setting and inconsistencies in themes and elements make it hard to immerse yourself in the movie.
