I get tired of hearing how terrible America is sometimes.

Perhaps I should put it in perspective, and see how other countries are developing faster, but why does that suddenly make America the worst country in the entire world?

It just seems like everyone I know wants to criticize everything about one of the few countries in the world where you can basically do anything that doesn't harm yourself, or anyone else (when you compare that number to the countless number of countries ruled by dictators, fascists, and other totalitarian regimes).

Is America -really- that bad? Is this just jealousy? Is it rivalry?

The reason everybody likes to hate on them yankees is because they are convinced that they as a nation are the best at everything. They were that in the 1950's when everybody else was fucked over by the WW2. The 50's were a long time ago yet they still think they're so fucking great.

As it is, USA is about average among first world countries. Not especially horrible, not especially nice. Good luck trying to get an american to admit that though.

Russia steamrolled the Eastern front, and Americas support on the western was absolutely minimal and the battles they took part in are glorified and overblown by the media in an insane amount.

England, Canada and whatever other Allies were around would have taken the shores of Normandy just as effectively as they did with the Americans.

Ehhh, this is more of a complex question than you would think. The end of WWI was very very bad for the Kaiser, and though the rest of Europe was participating too, the US swiftly handed out massive amounts of butthurt to the German people as a whole, fucking them over with every single term of their surrender. This is part of what allowed Hitler to rise to power so when WWII broke out, we already sorta had our hand in that cookie jar. There were lots of people who said we shouldn't involve ourselves in that clusterfuck a second time, but then the lunarian's sneak attack forced our hand sheerly out of public sentiment if nothing else.

Some historians argue that if we had just kept our noses out of WWI, it would have burned itself out into a more equitable truce for both sides, and possibly averted round 2.

What I don't understand, though, is why people get their vaginas all sandy at random Americans who are visiting foreign countries, as if that 25 year old dude wearing a T-shirt had anything to do with WWII, or shaping any sort of current foreign policy. I can understand if said 'murrkan is being a dickhole about something, but shouting "FUCK YOU!" at me because your grandpa got killed in WWII seems just a little off-point.

People hate America for three reasons:

1) Jealousy
2) They're the world superpower, and people want to root for the underdog, even if the underdog is a shitty theocracy ruled by a dictator.
3) Since they're the most powerful, people assume they must be very corrupt. Because everything with a lot of power is corrupt, right? (Europeans believe this from experience)

And then there are pacifists who think every conflict on Earth can be solved with enough talking.

I'm a foreign student in the U.S.
The country is so-so compared to where I used to live. Well, the landscapes are nice, I can't deny this, but the cars are shit, the food is average, the people are mostly dumb, the politics are ridiculous and the rights aren't that more plentiful than elsewhere.
All in all, average place. I'm going back home when I'm done sapping your knowledge.

We've been in much worse before. If we halted Military spending, we could pay off all of our debts, foreign and local, in two years.

Funny you should mention soul crushing depressions. We managed to climb out of one once before, and the national debt then was about eight times as bad as it is now(by inflation).

Further, the best part about our national debt is that over half is held locally, by Americans, which makes things a bit easier.
