be sure to read John's religion/story
>How I got 180/180 on N1 in ~8.5 Months!
https://rentry.org/9pe4o

But essentially what John's method religion IS:

* Start reading every day (and listening)
* Go through a grammar guide (like Tae kim or Cure Dolly)
* Go through a common vocab deck (like core2.3k)
* Mine stuff into Anki that you encounter in your Japanese media

A detailed guide of what John did can be found on
https://pastebin.com/0ANbbfHR

*John Bless your gains

Disregard bad advice frequently posted in these threads. Things to avoid:
・any rentry.org and геddiт """guides""". nothing good has ever come out of геddiт.
・Itazuraneko. Outdated, hard to follow, confusing for beginners.
・Anime cards (the guide by someone named QM). It recommends words cards, which are proven to be less effective than targeted sentence cards (TSCs).
・Core 2.3k. It is based on newspapers from early 90s and additionally sorted in a way that makes learning harder. Try Ankidrone Starter Pack instead.
・Anacreon. Anacreon is an infamous spammer. He constantly hijacks our threads to shill his shit.
・tmw/The moe way. Patreon scam run by a turkish tranny.
・Discord servers. Discord is malware that runs a data mining operation. DJT has moved to Matrix.
・Refold, Migaku and other for-profit companies who want to scam you.
・Visual novels. Most of them are proprietary ー https://www.gnu.org/proprietary/

sure but i thought it was a set ohrase and had no idea where it came from or what it meant or why, yesterday i came across there being different kanjo for shadows with different meanings (already had 影)、and the concept of a positive godly shadow/protection/blessing and how it applies to everything, is rather cool

japanese is truly amazing!

try different things until you find what does then, for me, i write every kanji a few times when i first see it, (don't stress over that too much but do copy the right stroke order), look up what it means and some words that use it for both readings (random example 魔、magic, id grab 魔女、魔王、魔物、etc), then i cant forget it without forgetting all of the words and i can recover it by thinking of any of those words

anyway, no kanji will ever be harder than your first one, each ies easier after that, eventually youll see them once and have them, so don't worry too much if they aren't sinking right away

the most important thing is constancy, also you cant force things, some will only stick after sleeping, 10 mins every day is better than 70 mins once a week (do more than 10 mins a day tho)

good luck bro we are all gonba make it

its not a meme but itll happen naturally cause youre gonna notice that some components repeat a lot, 氵for instance is in most things having to do with water or moisture, its more, if you are gonna spend time learning components, you may as well just learn the kanji and get them for free

also the more kanji you know the easier every new kanji is cause you have something to "stick" them, say 凄い is 妻 with the ice radical, a cool wife is sugoi, that sorta thing

For other companies it would be a nice, recent certificate for my cv, so I can do the bs talk about self improvement and whatnot. the average kid reads around 5 books a year.
but they also probably get the equivalent in listening and speaking practice for around 15 books per year
multiply that by 18 and that's around 270 books in 18 years.
but you should divide that in 2 50% reading 50% listening

how do you interpret this. i'm a NEET who avoids contact with everyone and don't even bother to come out of my bedroom. everyone knows that but the husband of my cousin comes to visit my aunt (who lives next to me) he comes here and calls me out. even though he knows i'm a neet loser and i have 0 money.

i do believe there is a point where doing anki has diminishing returns i mean in your native language it isn't like you take an unknown and relatively rare word and grind it, you're just experienced in the language enough to make a mental note of it and encounter it enough times in context to develop meaning in your head

hes stretching a hand, grab it. he is only visiting cause he is family and you know that, but at the same time, he could easily not visit, too, so at worst, he doesn't find you disgusting/worthless/pointless, if you want a way into humanity, he is your ticket, be humble and vulnerable and ask him to do stuff (whatever stuff you want), he got married so he cant be that bad
>but hell think im a loser
he already does, so don't waste eithers time pretending you are not and grab the hand if you want it/need it

but that's what college students basically do? if you want to learn something rare then you need to specifically study it
the diminishing returns comes from how often you are going to see those words

i'm not a robot

i was made fun of for being different. i was always an outcast. people made fun of me because i used "weird" words. people around me were always dumber than me even my teachers. people laughed at me in 2006 cuz i knew the word "anorexic" in my native language, i thought 'well, our teacher will know this word exists" but she didn't, can you believe it? she had to check a fucking dictionary. it's so stupid but it's true

CLICK READ MORE FOR A SUMMARY OF ALL THE POINTS:

Leave your questions and comments here and I'll try to answer them and explain further. I will be releasing NUMEROUS videos about how to do the encoding with demonstrations and examples. By the time you watch them all, I think you'll understand why trying to fit them into this video would just be insanely crammed.

VIDEO SUMMARY:
- Studying is not the same as learning

- Studying is physical while learning is a cognitive process

- Studying techniques that produce low learning are time consuming

- Different techniques invoke different levels of learning

- Memory going into longterm memory is called encoding

- Level of encoding determines a significant amount of retention

- Retrieving memory from longterm to working memory in order to use it for applications is called retrieval

- Information that is in working memory instead of long term is forgotten very quickly

- Active recall and spaced repetition work through adjusting the forgetting curve only through repetition

- This is only working on retrieval aspect of memory only

- This doesn't help with encoding

- Encoding would reduce the knowledge decay of the forgetting curve to reduce the number of repetitive revisions and relearning sessions needed, therefore saving lots of time

- Proper encoding also makes learning more enjoyable and engaging

- Techniques that cause poor encoding and use low cognitive load are called passive techniques

- A sign of passive learning is sleepiness

- Techniques that cause high learning through appropriate cognitive load are called active learning techniques. There are many.

- Low retention studying due to poor encoding is unsustainable to fix with repetition based techniques

- Encoding involves cognitive load

- Cognitive load feels uncomfortable and confusing

- This is partially why so few students use encoding techniques

- Another reason retrieval techniques like active recall and spaced repetition are so common is due to the Dunning Kruger effect where low knowledge causes high confidence

- This combines with success bias whereyou don't hear about the failure stories

- This then combines with availability bias where we define legitimacy by how common we are exposed to it

- This creates a spiral of unknowledgeable people creating videos about common techniques that are not as effective as they claim, making it more available, increasing its perceived legitmacy

- Considering that encoding is naturally difficult, this makes encoding techniques very uncommonly talked about
