I have seen some seiyuu who quietly retired and we know they retired because either their agency profiles were deleted or their existing roles were recast. An example would be Yoriko Nagata, who had voiced Mikuni in Kissxsis but had quietly retired at some point, leading to the role being recast in the later OADs (she was also Jun in K-On). Kano Kirishima in Kaginado was also recast because I think her VA retired. Yurie Yamashita also seems to have retired as she hasn't had any roles in years and doesn't seem to have any active social media.

The only awards worth paying attention to are the newcomer awards cos that's the industry's way of giving you advanced warning that these are the people they will try to force down your throat whether you like it or not.
Most valuable seiyuu will indicate who fujos are most into at the moment and that's about it.

I think for "popular" anime seiyuu who can do dubs and promos there is few. Nana, Sakamoto and Sawashiro are older and with kids now. As for Hanakana, maybe her voice isn't really suitable for dubs, so far she end up with kid's roles. Compared to Uchida who has adult roles in MCU, Matrix and Dune.

I feel like she is outside the box in terms of seiyuu, so I cannot predict her career, but she's done pretty well for herself and without playing the usual cutesy game most seiyuu do. Not really, the number of seiyuu that does PBs are low and it"s just the kind that does the idol thing. Sometimes a popular seiyuu might do a special release like Kayanon for her 10th anniversary but that's about it. Overall it doesn't really help a seiyuu career.

I went back through that old 5ch thread again (shitposting aside, bless you Anon for linking me this) cause I wanted to look at more comments, mainly to see how Nakahara was back when she was starting out.

Seems she said a lot of stupid shit on radio, like in that example talking about sex. And yeah like I said, lots of the comments are still negative, but I still can't grasp whether the Nips actually liked her or not. To answer your question, yes I do think she's married, and she's just so diligent to take the ring off before photos. Its always been heavily speculated she's secretly married to Kakihara. She actually follows his father on Twitter and they were rumored to be spotted exiting a karaoke bar (I say rumoured because there was talk about it but no pictures ever emerged).

Considering how rabid fujos can be, I can understand why they'd never admit it. I believe if she is married, one day she'll slip and we'll see the ring. It could also explain why as well she's able to survive on the minimal amount of roles she gets every year.

I doubt her twitter will ever ramp up much regardless of what she's in. Even with higurashi, she only really retweeted stuff from the official account with additional comments. And I personally think she started instagram on a suggestion from someone, because she probably felt Twitter was more for her career. Instagram would leave her more free to just post things that she likes without pressure to be career-relevant, and thus would be more fun for her. But it doesn't matter regardless, since she can't be bothered anyway ha.

And I have no clue about Shimizu, since I don't really keep track of her career, other than knowing she did/does do eroge, and is also now a wrestler. As for the question, I definitely think it's possible. But the odds are pretty staggeringly against her. Any big characters she'd be suitable for will likely always go through a Sawashiro or Sakamoto first. Or go to a younger seiyuu who's range they might want to showcase, and popularity they'd like to take advantage of. Nakahara is just at a severe disadvantage, because of her age, and lack of popularity. That's why she's used as a reliable support these days, since she's talented, but wont be relied upon to bring in an audience or get people excited.

I honestly wish she'd move to another agency like many have been doing recently, because I'M clearly doesn't care about getting her big roles, and probably think as long as she gets a few decent support roles a year, they are doing their most for her. And she's probably too loyal and comfortable there to ever leave. And then there's the question of what other agency would even do right by her if she did leave?

Well, Nakahara was never an otaku. She played the occasional game, and really liked a specific anime growing up. She probably realized she was good at mimicking the seiyuu, and also probably liked the security of not having to be in front of a camera to act. It’s safer behind a mic with a script in hand. She always does her research when she is involved in something so she can speak on it the way she’s expected to. But I honestly just think she loves acting and anime is the best vehicle to do the kind of acting she likes best. So not really sad. It’s just her personality.

And yeah exactly. I’d love to see her in another role that really challenges her. She mentioned in an interview at Anime Central that her ideal role is one she has yet to play. Something about a role showing the ugliness of humanity, and other really deep shit like that. Ah, I remember that interview, I can't remember if ANN did it or it was with someone else. but I remember her saying that. And like another Anon pointed out, the mom from Boy's Abyss is pretty much that but like I've said before, it won't get an anime and she becomes a bigger cunt later on in the manga which the anime would never reach.

My other option would be Makima, she's an asshole villain, absolute scum to the core with how she uses Denji and the entire crew. But that's a WSJ role and unlikely since Nips will probably meme Sawashiro or Sakamoto into that role. My only comfort is that Sawashiro is Daki, Sakamoto is on leave due to having a kid, and Hayami is in SxF. It'd be an excellent way to land your WSJ debut, and its a challenging role anyway cause you've gotta come off sweet while hiding your true intentions later on; something I think she absolutely excels at.

And I doubt she's not interested in longer running anime. Most seiyuu love gigs like that, because it's job security. She mentioned Juvia was one of her fav roles since she's played her for so long, so no, a steady gig is always a good thing. And Nakahara loves work, so I can only imagine she'd be grateful for a steady gig.

And yeah I do wonder if Nakahara just doesn't have a good relationship with the sound directors who are in charge of those longer running series. Who knows. Because to not even get a minor, or guest role in all this time is really odd.

And yes, Makima seems like the perfect role for her in a lot of ways, but I just can't get my hopes up she'd have any real chance of getting that. There always seems to be someone else much more favored over her. And again, I think her lack of popularity holds her back a lot in these castings. Anime castings have become too much of a fame game, and she'll get screwed over every time because of it. With the Hikasa leaks (I'm assuming of course that the leak is 100% true). In the picture her name was crossed out, which means MAPPA wanted her as their first choice, but couldn't get her due to being busy (which makes sense since she's in Shaman King and Dragon Quest, both of which are still running, plus BASTARD!)

Yeah that's true, I remember when she was cast as Erina in the SnS Vomic. They should have just stuck with her, considering what happened with Taneda. But that series went to shit anyway, so no point dwelling on it.

And I personally don't think her gacha roles dried up. I always see news of her suddenly in a new gacha or mobile game. For example, the other day I saw she's voicing a princely looking dude in some game called "Welcome to Dreamland." She seems to be doing a good amount of Chinese created games especially. Still waiting on her to show up in Genshin at some point. It's inevitable, since she's also in Honkai and Honkai Star Rail.

And yeah, I have't seen any evidence of her having any bad relationships, or being difficult to work with either. Kind of cold/intimidating to her kouhai? Yeah, there is evidence of that. But not with senpais, or those in charge. She seems very professional.

And I don't think any anime is necessarily responsible for her slow down in roles. I really just think it was her quitting the idol thing, and that wasn't the anime's fault. She personally chose to do that, and in doing so, her male fanbase dropped off considerably.

She probably thought she was established enough at that point, and was sick of doing something she never wanted to do in the first place, and took the chance, hoping it would be ok. And it was kind of ok, because she is still working steadily, but what she lost was those lead/main roles, and that was pretty devastating. it's hard, because technically, many actresses experience that drop off in roles because of age. So, it might have been inevitable for Nakahara no matter what she did.

That seems stupid on her behalf, you should never think you're established imo, you should continue trying for those big roles. I also think that Rena and nagisa probably aired too close together for her to ever think she was established. And I mean granted, people still do remember her for those roles to this day, but honestly, that's it, just Rena and Nagisa. It certainly does feel like I'm kinda mismanaged her hard.

Its weird cause I'm finding a lot now that VAs who are going beyond 30 and still getting roles. Its the same with the idea that once you got married that was it, but it seems to be the opposite now, but I guess a lot of it depends on the seiyuu

And I wouldn't put it passed them to do a Honkai collab, but I also think they'd want her as a brand new character as well. I don't see why they wouldn't do that. It's a waste to only use her as Seele when they can cast her as someone new.

And no, it wasn't Ayaneru. Ayaneru said IM is full of weirdos, but specifically mentioned that Kugimiya and Nakahara are pretty normal. I honestly can't remember the seiyuu who said it, but they had a radio show and they said to Takahashi Mikako that having her on was like chatting to a friend, but if the guest was someone like Nakahara, it would be all business from her.
Okamoto also said he was really intimidated to talk to her at first, and asked for tips from Nakamura, who trollishly said he should talk about the generation gap heh.I also read an interview with Rumi from when she did Talentless Nana, about how she never really properly talked with Nakahara prior to Nana, even though they did SxS together, and she seemed to imply that was on Nakahara.

Nah, she had a very tiny female fanbase. From what I could tell from reading comments on videos back in the day, girls just didn't like her. Even now, I doubt her female fanbase is that big.I know she said she got more girls interested in her after Kashima, and her Juvia is popular with girls, too. And surprisingly, her most popular character with girls is Rena. But I think girl fans back in the day were too petty and jealous to like her much. If you ever watch a Tales event pre-2010, there's dead silence from (I assume) the mostly female audience, any time Nakahara (or any of the girls) were introduced. Hell, if you watch the ToV 10 year special, same thing happens.

And I don't think she stopped trying for any big roles. I just meant, she probably thought it was safe to drop the idol stuff after having a good amount of success in the industry, and while she was still getting leads. She was also a ten year veteran at that point. but sadly, none of that held up, and that's just the reality of the situation.

And I agree that she was(and is) mismanaged, because even when she was getting many main and lead roles, there weren't enough memorable or quality ones. It's kind of the same exact problem she's having now. Her career kind of reminds me of actresses who mostly starred in B movies back in the old days of Hollywood: lots of roles, but hardly any quality/memorable ones. And I don't think that's down to her talent, I think she just got screwed over, and she ended up with quantity over quality.

Though, I think mileage varies greatly person by person, because it really depends on nostalgia and what someone might have watched. Yeah, Nagisa and Rena are easily her most popular, but just look at that video with that youtuber that she did recently. He flipped out because she was Mei from Kaleido Star. Her best/stand out characters are different depending on the person.

And well, a lot of VAs now are being managed differently to try and delay/circumvent that situation. Like I said, the seiyuu industry is becoming more and more like a fame game. So, seiyuu become talents/personalities in addition to just being a seiyuu, and that extends their lifespan, because they've branched out and made a name for themselves in more than just anime voice acting, which is greatly dependent on youth. Mai had some of that in her small idol career, and she dropped it, and paid the price for it.

Well like I've said before. When its a VOMIC its unlikely they'll reprise the role if it gets an anime cause cost comes into it. I think the only time I've seen it happen was with BnHA. Daiki Yamashita actually voiced Deku in the VOMIC first I believe.

Pretty good comparison. I reckon she could have a decent run nowadays if she lands a good character.

I'm honestly surprised that she didn't change agencies the moment she decided to quit being an idol, cause I'm seem to really like if you're an idol.

I would not be surprised if she retired from voice acting within the next 5 years. Imo, if she does not get a big role from I'm, or changes agencies she's pretty much fucked. Cause I do honestly think she could do something like Sakura Nogawa did, she just needs to do something.

And I honestly doubt she’s ever going to willingly retire. Even if her roles slow to an even greater crawl, I can see her stubbornly hanging in there. She has stated before she wants to keep working as long as possible. She’s good friends with Kikuko Inoue. My guess is her ideal career would be one similar to hers. But I think that’s already out of reach for her.

Sorry I got my Sakura's mixed up, I just finished Road to Berlin finally so I had her on my mind.

I meant Sakura Tange. From what I recall, she dropped off for a significant amount of time then came back in some sort of career revival. Nakahara could honestly do that as well if she lucks herself into a big role.

But it all comes back to the struggle of her landing a significant role in a popular series, and someone giving her the opportunity for it. Because with Tange, she was properly making a comeback. I don't think I'M said that to her when she quit (though they might have). She said this was what she was told when she was first starting out, and when she refused to do the idol thing to begin with.

But yeah, it comes down to the same thing. I do think they might have tried to continue and push her at first though. She was doing Muv Luv: Total Eclipse (though she already was involved with that series for years at that point), and she got Jinrui, but that was also because the creators had her in mind for the character already. Plus, I think there was a year gap between her quitting, and those roles, where you could really see the drop. So, it does almost seem like she was being punished for not adhering to their advice.
