Same. I decided that the lack of large scale war allows space for other types of conflict in MGE. I imagine small battles to 'liberate' villages from the Order, or subvert Order personnel. So it loops back to a focused tactic level of conflict. Large scale and protracted war is only good for bleeding away resources and people. I have done some thinking on this as well, MGE fulfills most desires of human experience, but it lacks significant hardships to overcome.
My idea for providing optional hardships to overcome that do have real utility behind them but not overwhelming danger is this: A phenomenon exists such that the more monster and incubus couples there are, and the more magic is used, demon beasts of increasing power are generated some large distance away in uninhabited areas, likely in some fractal pattern, occupying the land until they are cleared from it. This effectively provides a distant quest to any individual or group seeking glory at whatever skill/power level that is most fulfilling for them. Those they fight are just beasts, so there is no need to feel guilty taking others' lives, and you clear land for yourself or others to live on, so you are making real accomplishments. And there are undead and magics of resurrection and undeath, so even if accidents or failures were to happen, not everything is lost.
I have also thought of a few sources of this phenomenon:
1. Mammono mana / Spirit energy, when used creates a small byproduct flying off at a large velocity, which then decays into energies that create the demon beasts.
2. There is some god of war or hunting that creates this phenomenon for those that want a greater challenge.
3. The small, unconscious desires of a great many people for a great hardship to overcome unconsciously uses their magic power in small amounts to create this phenomenon.
I have some desire to ask KC if something like this would be acceptable to headcannon, but I don't want to bother him and I am not subscribed to his patreon or secret twitter.
