Back in the day, I actually read fanfiction. Ranma had a lot of it (not really surprising, given that the setting is basically Touhou beta). I actually started reading it before I finished the series (back then, we had to BUY or BORROW things...).

When I was reading the manga, one thing always struck me. Rumiko had absolutely no mercy on her characters. This is what separates a good writer from... well, a fan-fiction writer.
