Since even when I joined kigu Cloud was sort of inactive and unreachable, I've offered multiple times to expand it or be a contact for it and he has always declined. I've also offered to merge the maps but he always "had plans" for his.
So I've made an actual map that is as up to date as I can keep it and hopefully I'm very accessible for people if they need something for the map.

depends a lot on what you mean by "quality" but price isn't a great indicator these days. You can get pretty good ones for lower amounts. For example the left (NFD) would of sold for around $500, the right (RTPS iirc) would of cost around $1000.

Since that seems to be today's drama, where would people recommend getting to know other kigs?

Been trying on twitter for a while now but beyond a few of them asking me to go with them to cons on the other side of the country that'll cost more than kig itself to attend i've not had any luck.

I've tried KSZ but they're not the sort of people you want to get to know.

tried Kigurumi Research Institute but that's mostly kig news and a resource centre for newcomers to kig.

got invited to a couple private servers but they're all pretty much dead and most of the kigs don't even kig much anymore.

checked out the euro kig site but that's more a news board advertising meetups where you pay deposits to secure a place on said meetups.

4chan is 4chan and self posting here is more likely to trigger people than it is to make friends

is there anywhere decent that I'm just unaware of or is that really all we've got at the moment?

It's not like we've got a wiki for this shit, the closest we've got is the guidebook and even that is pretty much just a list of makers and links.

You can join the Research server and listen to Data's general news updates about various makers but beyond that one source what else is there?

There's so much information that you can only get by asking people, like information about certain masks, specific material details, the communication of certain makers during the commission, how to order from the taobao makers, what makers made what masks, where to get certain hada options, what hada manufacturer to use and colour to pick to match your mask's color, how to fix certain kig specific issues, advice for public shoots, advice for conventions, what makers buy from what wig manufacturers, what they use to style their wigs and the list goes on and on.

As it stands, if you want to have answers to any of these, you either have to dedicate a ridiculous amount of time and money experimenting yourself or you have to go to one of the various communities all of which will tell you different and contradicting things, if anyone bothers responding at all.

A couple years ago, I bought a papercraft project from an itch.io shop to build a very basic kigurumi mask out of paper. It was complicated as fuck and it took me forever to finish it since I'm not very /po/ savvy, but it actually worked and I had a sort of starter kig mask I could at least try on. It's very generically shaped, there's no mouth or ears, the idea I guess was for people to build on it and make it into something better if they wanted, but it was a pretty interesting project. I would imagine that would be a good way to gage it like what you're saying, it would only cost like 9 sheets of card paper and a fuckton of patience. Problem is though, that guy shut down that shop and it's not available anymore. I tried emailing him to redownload some stuff and he said he closed shop because everyone just kept stealing his work and reselling them and shit. I want to share it since it's essentially lost media now and I totally know how you feel, but I also feel just a little shitty since I know why it's not available.
