I slept with my marisa and patchy fumos for a couple years maybe a bit longer. It's best to take their hats of when you do so and some are better for it than others depending on how delicate their design is. But like the other anon said larger things are better for cuddling and I sleep with a daki now.

Well it really depends on the fumo, but my Patchouli's hat got damaged a bit. The moon is made from two pieces of felt glued together and one layer peeled off. The mesh on the inside of the hat also began to get detached but it was nothing major. Overall the hat still looked okay but it was not in mint condition. And yes, they do tend to fall off and get squished by you moving around or fall on the floor and pick up hair.
Some hats are very durable like Marisa's but it was uncomfortable sleeping with her with her hat on anyway.

Clothes definitely can make plushies less comfortable to hug. I don't have any fumos but I have a bunch of other plushies. One was a statue of liberty Minnie my gf got me but the crown kept poking me in the eye so I cut it off.

I was never a big collector but I did own a few plushies, I had a sega prize youmu which is much bigger and softer than a fumo, I loved sleeping with it, I felt like I'd pass out immediately when I hugged it. Of course eventually I replaced everything with a body pillow because I like the more human appearance and proportions.
I guess if you count my childhood I had tons of plushies, was way into them for a long time.

Why do you think you got more into collecting fumos and not more Sega prize ones if they are bigger and softer? I love human plushies too but I don't think I could enjoy a body pillow. I think they'd be too flat for me to enjoy. A big part of why I enjoy plushies is that I like playing with their arms, legs and petting their heads. A pillow would be too uniform in its shape imo. Yeah body pillows do have that downside but once I switched I simply couldn't go back, it's just a matter of preference.
Also I only had two fumos, and I think they're just higher quality, better looking and cooler overall than the sega one which was just big, squishy and fun to cuddle. Just search big/giant touhou plush on google and go to the shopping tab and you should get results on ebay/aliexpress desu they're pretty easy to find.

Ah so you're more into aesthetics than cuddles, I can understand the reasoning for that. I'm definitely more of cuddler. I'll get anything that I think is a decent price and feels soft and nice to cuddle, regardless of the character or aesthetic. This mindset has led me to get a bunch of completely random plushies from a big ikea shark to a bunch of Disney princess ones to a life sized Minnie mouse. (I somewhat regret getting the giant Minnie mouse as she's so big that I can't really sleep comfortably when she's in my bed. I knew she was massive at the store but at the time I thought her really nice texture and good stuffing levels were worth it). From the Minnie incident you can see I'm all about texture and a good texture can make me pretty impulsive.

I'd say the biggest reason why I don't have as many anime ones as I'd like to is down to their higher price. Simply put, I can get 5 good ones from a thrift store for about the same price as one anime soft girl online that I can't even judge the texture of. If I had anime ones more commonly avaliable I'd definitely get them but I'm stuck in the situation where I can only take what I can easily get.

Not really, fumos are great for cuddling, they're just small. As for texture the sega girls have what I like to call grandma furniture for hair and that was a massive plus for me, the overall shape of them is ideal for hugging and they're squishier too. Somehow I still slept with my Marisa fumo for much longer, I think it was just sentimental value and love for the character honestly. She's the only plushie I kept when I tried lightening my load of belongings to make my life easier.

Could you send some pics showing examples of that? I admit I've never heard that as a description. Most of my judgments of a plushie's texture are just from previous experience but I know every plush is somewhat different from each other.

To be honest I think calling grandma furniture is just me vaguely remembering some chair I sat on as a child, combined with the color which I perceive as old fashioned for bedding and furniture these days.
The best way I could describe it now is like plush blankets or pajamas, it's very smooth and velvety. But it is just a felt material like fumo hair.
I no longer have Youmu, so I can't take pics. I really wish I could even dig up my old fumo pics from the archives a few years ago but I've never succeeded at finding any.
And yeah me and Marisa went through a lot together. She brings back some absolutely wild and terrifying memories as well as the time period that inspired me to be more creative today. Those were lonely times and things are better now.

I think the official term for that is minky. And that's definitely my favorite plush texture by far. I have this one big anime dog one that isn't as soft as I hoped it was when I bought it and honestly it's just been sitting in my closet for years. Its texture is a bit to fluffy for me. It's also somewhat hard to cuddle because of how wide it is. If it was minky I could look past that but honestly it's a meh plush. Part of me wants to sell it to make more room for better plushies.

There's a lot of demand, Gift sells doesn't make enough fumos, and the retail price is far less than what people are willing to pay.

As for news, just around 4 new fumos last year and the market has exploded. They're selling on amiami instead of gift now and amiami doesn't have the infrastructure to support the demand so it crashes a lot and they sell out immediately. But sales do seem to be a bit more frequent nowadays. Prices are still high but they're lowering, it's slow and fumos like cirno are still high but due to bootlegs of newer characters like Tenshi and Cirno being made the demand is slowly declining. I predict by 2023 we'll have cheaper fumos again
