b) maintaining a membership payment model

Together these would produce revenue and industry contacts en masse. This is to raiding as [any form of food] is to natto. So it is the better choice for them, compared to raiding. Why they don't even have to get the slaves themselves, the slaves gladly show up of their own accord -- even from distant lands! And they are proud of their 4 year slave contracts and certifications! There is no way in hell a Dark Elf could say no to that social position, much less a community of Dark Elves.

Even if you limit the ahem 'managerial effect' of Dark Elves to inducing fun karoshi...that is even more highly paid than any skilled worker typically is. After all, managers are where the real money flows. So at the least, depending on what they do, Dark Elves should be very suited to be well paid vice-managers in specialist fields. They would be ubiquitous.

After all, you have to make sure your gnome technical manager is properly motivated don't you? The lazy hedonism of monsters is like job security for Dark Elf, who gets off on making you follow orders and do work! Holy shit, it's like she was made for Japanese salaryman, who knew?

True, but I view the 'racial trade' as a natural outgrowth of the gene/culture stew. A NEET Dwarf is equivalent to a (bachelored) human engineer -- because Dwarf culture is unavoidably steeped in engineering and their natural ability is constantly developed via cultural osmosis.

So too for a Dark Elf slacker. Or multiclasser. Or interior decorator. There's enough room to be a decorator and still have a racial trade. There would be a trade off. So it would be there, just not at the crazy high level of the profiles. Which would be the average mamono of that type, I guess?

I'm curious to hear this, though am aware that the real reason is that competitive-backstabbery comes up so often in depictions of Dark Elfs. It's like Dwarves and mining at this point. What motive did you pick? I'd guess that the backstabbing could be a form of mutual cooperation if it had a kind of intraspecies karoshi-sutra effect. Then again, that's due to having just made this Dark Elf slave-manager hammer, so it may not be applicable.

While the idea of Dark elven slave unions advocating for workers rights in non d-elf communities and convincing labourers that they'd be better off signing temporary slave contracts and coming to the underdark to work with benefits like free family housing for the dark elves instead is hilarious, I do feel like it:
a) doesn't quite match the image I'm going for
b) is a little bit out of place in this relatively unindustrialised setting. I don't want no consequences.

I see slavery as a traditionalist institution to dark elves, and capturing a slave is not only a civic virtue, your first one is a rite of passage to be recognised as a full fledged citizen dark elf. The active practice of raiding is ingrained into their culture and image and their natural demeanour very much lends itself towards the end of manufacturing, it's not the mining it's the working the refined ore into art, it's not the farming, it's the potionmaking. About the only thing they take pride in doing from the ground up is slave rearing.

OL managers is a brilliant application I hadn't thought of. They don't need to really know the job too well in order to make sure other people are doing it. Or doing something, at least. I hadn't really thought of that role, it seems perfect for privileged dark elves from noble families who don't quite know what they want to do, just get told to manage a family asset and not fuck it up too bad.

I like it, not really something I thought of. After all, motivation is kind of like benevolent manipulation.

Babies. I think I'm ultimately going to go with a kind of virtue-scarcity. The greatest thing you could aspire to culturally and civilly is a mother, but not just any mother, but a particularly prodigious one, something which is cost-prohibitive and resource intensive for an elf, combined with some other factors like a dark, shady, toxin rich under dark where foul play seems advocated by nature itself and racial admiration for a ruthless spider goddess with no qualms in stepping over other people so long as it will benefit her and her mate, and you've got the recipe for a culture and society that'll organise itself around stepping on those beside you, bolstering those under and leeching off those above while undermining their foundations, not because you hate them or are evil, but because they're in the way of the resources you need to realize yourself as an exemplary member of your race.

Or do you feel like that's a stretch, and the motivation isn't strong enough?

So I wouldn't assume that capturing a marriage-slave would be preparation for not-managing the marriage-slave. Or other classes of slave.

Places where you have to legally accept the chances of being enslaved during a raid. People could pick areas of the place to indicate what sort of slavery they prefer. Want to be so good at accounting that it makes your dick hard and you get rewarded for it by dark long eared whip mommy? You want C building, next to the statue of a Forest Elf getting fisted.

Industrialized or not, the Dark Elf slave unions is my preference. It even has a good espionage/geopolitical/religious angle, depending on how Dark is interpreted in MGE. Anything with Dark in its name seems to be a chip off The Fallen's uber-depravity shtick. Not that Pandemonium is sane enough to pull of any serious realpolitik plots. But economically, Dark species might have common goals (and a common leadership in the Fallen -- if she can be pulled away from whatever aggravated rapemurderhandholdingres fetish she's into this week). The potential of a Dark Cartel is an idea, don't know if it's of use to you. I think it plausible.

Yeah, we agree here, I'm not sure how I gave you the impression I was against the idea of a slave-manager profession, it's pretty much a necessity. I just didn't think that's all they'd do as a race. It's also a role, numbers wise, that I don't think even the majority of dark elves would fall into, they still have to run a functioning society with religions and aristocratic institutions. And I absolutely agree it'll turn into slave cabal rings that operate auctions and arenas and the like.

You're an entire epoch away from my setting, but that is a great concept for something set in a mordern MGE City. I'm willing to wager you'd get a whole lot of fresh dudes who see it as a chance to get some serious education alongside a dommy elf wife who'll manage them.

Higher fantasy, but not so high that magic and tech have been inseparably merged yet, magitech is a niche and eclectic school, akin to dwarven gunsmithing, limited and rare. More Feudal, especially since it's dark elves we're talking here. Much less socially organised than it would take an industrial society to be.

Not exactly the place you'd find dark elf union managers in pencil skirts and stockings cutting loose at a bar after a day in the office, sexually bullying lone boys into joining for benefits. I'd say even MGE is more modern than my setting, they've basically got salary workers and smart phones and hostess bars already.

Since monstergirls love their families so much, then the correct behavior is obvious. Forming social connections, extending credit, and periodically milking the structure w/o causing any collapses is what they should do. Because we are dealing with people adapted to planning out centuries.

The extreme excessive bent you suggest is obviously self-destructive. Nothing is self-reinforcing if it damages the preconditions it needs to survive. That obsessive behavior is notorious among short sighted humans -- but it doesn't fit the majority of humans or elves

Raiding is clearly not sustainable nor self-supporting, and it generates enemies. Unless you've very long timespans, but that would waste so many opportunities with humans, wouldn't it? I'm not sure how raiders would have a culture of self-control when pillaging is an option.

What kind of Era are you considering?

The racial bonus splits the difference here too. I don't see why a functional society is opposed to having a management caste -- it works because of the proportionally low population of elves vs everyone else. Doesn't this require that they integrate other species into their society if they want to access economies of scale? Well yes, actually. Besides how else would slave-managers magnify labor?

I'd extend this to having a Dark Elf be both a:
a) cultural identity, and a
b) biological identity

Option A doesn't require you to be an biological Dark Elf. The elements that biological Dark Elves can agree on in terms of identity (according to the profile) are depravity, slavery, and liking humans. So internal political power among Dark Elves would depend on these traits. Technically, if anyone else can do those things, they may as well be a Dark Elf. This is the equitable split, it allows biological Dark Elves an advantage in their native politics, but it allows those holding to those principles some chance at the same.

Yeah, this is pretty far forward, even anachronistic for periods in normal history, but these are a sort of elf. Maybe they worked this out in the Bronze Age analog?

Ah, we may be speaking past one another again in regards to how serious/extreme a description is. You can usurp someone's position within an institution without destabilizing the institution, as you said these are elves who think these things through, they're obviously going to be prepared to take on the responsibilities and privileges of whichever person it is they're knocking down a peg. I'm not sure how destructive you imagined this process to be, but being elves, a lot of this would be subtle and graceful, it would be seen as unsightly and boorish to replace someone in such a way that was even noticeable, really. Seamless is a word I could use here.

The generation of enemies doesn't matter so much, firstly, this is set in a period of well established status quo, so it's not like any one has dark elf neighbours and is surprised by their actions. Secondly, the trade and network of the dark elves is well worth the risk of engaging with them. As for surface enemies, no one's coming under ground to attack them, no one could anyway. Dark Elven caravans may frequently be raided by other denizens of the dark, but that's kind of part and parcel of a fantasy setting, isn't it. Dark elves are probably the ones raiding dark elven caravans from other cities and as for missed opportunities with other humans, I can only assume you mean with trade and other above board dealings, and to be honest, such opportunities aren't worth destabilising a working status quo, especially when those in power rely on the status quo not changing.

They aren't. I just mean that you can't have a functioning society of every one's job is just to manage slaves doing slave things. Like, where are the doctors and scholars, lol. Baby numbers here because my brain's a little smooth at the moment, but if you have a population of 10,000 elves and 50,000 slaves and you reason a single manager could oversee a group of 50 or so slaves at a minimum, that's only 1000 elves managing slaves at once, those other 9k have to have other jobs and professions.

I'm pretty wiped too, so I'm sorry for only addressing the one point but I don't like the idea of more or less pigeonholing an entire race into one profession, it's not self sustainable, it doesn't produce a well rounded culture, and it's heavily reliant upon other specialised girls filling the other niches, which isn't a case in a dark elven city where the demographics could skew as high at 90% permanent dark elven citizen, 10% other, not counting slaves.
