It's a new year and we're somehow still here posting about Touhou. Please spare a moment to take a short survey and reflect on what this series means to you.

I think 2022 will be pretty slow year for touhou.
I don't expect new mainline game, and chances for spinoff like ISC are also slim.
With ZUN just releasing his mini-album chance for new hifuus is also slim.
I don't expect big plot twists in Detective Satori given its pace. Maybe whale manga will near its end near end of 2022.
And i don't expect any new series starting in 2022 either.

2021 was actually a pretty good year for Touhou, all things considered. Lots of new great fan releases (new Musou Kakyou and Hifuu Club anime episodes released), 17.5 was finally released, ZUN's mini album, Yukkuri's dominating more than ever before in Japan, etc. In an overall sense it's gonna be hard to top that.
If Complete Box releases on Steam next year that's also gonna be a big plus. There's also Labyrinth of Touhou 3 but I don't think that's gonna be done at this point.

Not just this year but in the future, ZUN might have to consider releasing at different mediums first besides Comiket (and Reitaisai) because of lockdowns and regulations.
Steam, literally any other Japanese game selling site, hell maybe itch since that seems mildly popular even amongst Japanese devs.
The crackhead world timeline would be if he just did mail orders instead.

As for the results so far let's just say I'm seeing some similar trends to the annual popularity polls, which shouldn't really surprise me but still.

I predict not much will change with Touhou, things will be more or less the same. A bit less activity can be expected as no new games are coming out this year.
I hope the memevirus shit dies down enough I might be able to visit Japan without a massive hassle, I was planning on going in 2021 originally and then my workload increased double fold thanks to the "epidemic".

yeah i died in the fight against patchoulli. used reimu with spirit spell card (type A). had trouble estimating in which spots i won't get hit and dodging in general, especially when my panic button (the bombs) were depleted. but i guess that just needs more training. the hitbox is kinda weird though

In regards to the series' future, I believe that not much else is going to change.
Things will go on like usual, and I think that there will be very few noteworthy things happening this year, aside from new Touhou games and all that other usual Touhou stuff. Part of me hopes that there will be much more Touhou-related important things this year, though.

It's pretty much like this, though it's actually smaller than what the dot on the pic shows. It's usually a 2x2 or 3x3 square depending on character and game.
Keep also in mind that sakuya's knives have a slightly larger hitbox than what their sprite shows. Their hitboxes are as wide as the hilts of the knives.

I've never tried playing easy (although I've heard it's barely any less difficult than normal), but I've got my first 1cc on SoEW after playing the game casually on normal for almost two months and found it a good enough way to learn the ropes.
I'd recommend sticking to normal regardless of game since that's what you're gonna be playing most of the time.

I wouldn't say they're cheating in a literal sense, but I feel like just giving yourself more lives at the start of the game waters the experience down somewhat.
You only get to be bad at Touhou once in your life, and I feel like you should experience that to the fullest while you can.
Struggling against every spellcard, learning first how to bomb, then how to not use them as a crutch, drinking in deeply the atmosphere and music across countless attempts, pushing forward an inch further each time; it can be a magical experience.
You still get that experience with more lives, but not to the same depth or degree. It might make the journey less frustrating, but I feel it makes it a little less special too.

In general, while learning the game, you should be spending most of your time playing normal.
Feel free to bounce around to the other difficulty modes to get a feel for how they're different. Even give Lunatic a try if you're feeling brave, I guarantee it won't take much of your time.
But Normal is the intended experience and the best place to start as a newcomer. Easy isn't awful; it actually has some unique dialogue that can be pretty entertaining and the experience isn't that terribly different from Normal. The issue is that some attacks are weakened in ways that can build bad habits and make it more difficult to beat Normal when you inevitably move up.
If you're struggling against a specific stage, I'd recommend using Practice Mode instead, as that will help you against the precise patterns.
If you're struggling in general, I'd recommend bouncing around to a few other Touhou games. Exposing yourself to new situations will challenge you in different ways and help you grow as a player. Shoot the Bullet and Impossible Spell Card are really good for this because they're level-based instead of stage-based, but any mainline Touhou or any Bullet Hell game for that matter will help teach you fundamentals.

Finally done with the hobbies page! Obviously there's a lot of overlap between Touhou inspired hobbies and general otaku hobbies, but still cool to see all these different interests.

Well, it's a purely anecdotal observation but I'm referring in general to how you see so many people who were heavily involved with the Touhou community 10-15 years ago who have now entirely rebranded themselves as a part of the vtuber community, and the amount of references to Touhou related stuff that I've seen posted in those threads when going through archives. I could be entirely wrong about this though, the majority of those posters could be people who were never previously involved with Touhou or even /jp/ at all
