HM can't even fucking decide if they're translation from french to english, updating the mcjon script, translating from french to english with "JP checkers", or translating from japanese to english. The fuss is they won't release/finish the damn thing. I'm plenty understanding about real life stuff taking priority and the fact they're doing it for free, but they've burned any goodwill they may have had with their ridiculous antics and glacial translation pace. Let me phrase it like this for you: do you think any anime adaptation has been met by this community with "damn that's good, you don't even have to read the source material now"? Because the answer is no. But for the sake of argument, let's assume this will be the greatest anime ever made and it has no flaws. Now, let's say it gets announced properly on NYE 2 weeks from now. The premiere date will likely not be sooner than april (mahoyo's anni), so that's another 4 months. That's of course only for Japanese theaters, so aside from those who are actually in Japan, a lucky few get to wait a few additional months for a possible overseas showing. Whether that happens or not, BDs will come out as usual around 6 months after initial premiere. We're now at October 2022. Then you add on the time it'll take for a group or some random guy from 4chan to sub it, because if you look at pretty much all recent shows you'll see that they either get no subs for the longest time, or they get some absolute trash speedsubs that just hurt to read. You're now possibly already in November 2022, and you can now watch the movie with good subs. This is all, of course, assuming the movie is even a perfect adaptation so that it negates the need of the source material, which we all know it's not going to be.

However much you want to jump on the anti-HM bandwagon is up to you, I really couldn't care what people think, but thinking this will somehow cause the project to be dropped, especially when a HYPOTHETICAL movie is this far out, I can't really wrap my head around.

It depends, not all persons learn at the same pace,
talking from my personal experience, I got hit hard time and time again when learning jap because I focused 2 much into learning vocab and kanji, but once I started to focus on grammar it all came more natural, basically because once you have an understanding of grammar you can dwell into reading/playing the stuff you like, you just need a dictionary, and then you can start building up your vocab little by little. (With the things you like)
I'll say that 4-5 months if you put the effor for the basics and some intermediate stuff. You'll be able to read the easier types of manga (with the help of a dictionary or a kanji searching software like Kanjitomo).
That said you'll probably read at a pace of 5-10 minutes per page, but thats good.
Also, member this is for anime/manga/VNs consuption, if you want to go with a more serious approach you should look for other methods.

The thing is that Shiki is 'spreading' death out quite clearly going by the way they present it. It washes over the walls and corridor and Roa. Which may be why he says all that matters is that it's alive and in front of him. That distance is meaningless. I wonder if it's like a principle or something. When I first saw it I thought he was using a reality marble but it clearly doesn't actually show any interference with the world. Everything being consumed by death is just what Shiki sees and yet it's still something that is perceivable instinctually by Roa once he's caught in the web. Maybe Shiki killed space. The game does make reference to him seeing the death of space in Ciel route but it feels like whatever happened here is different and maybe related to his "I don't even know what it means to be human anymore".

Besides, they mostly don't even have a second foreign language in their schools. It's probably Russian you're talking about that isn't streamlined, right? I can't really speak for the Southern Slavic languages, but Belarusian ans Czech are very streamlined, to a point where all the letters are read the exact same way in every word. In Ukrainian and Polish there's aome exceptions but it's almost like that too and in Russian there's quite a lot of those "exceptions". All of that is barely pronunciation/spelling wise though. As for German, Hochdeutsch is very consistent, it's the local dialects where it gets messy.

I've had my attempts at some old literature in the original writing, such as Genji monogatary, and although words themselves are very different (and hard to understand), reading itself is still easy.
