I want to do a nice drawing of Patchouli for my friend, but I've never drawn her before. I'm not sure if I'll do any good and which style to pick.

I know I'll probably get ripped to shreds for this, but what do you think from this small sketch? Will it end up being okay? and which style should I try? The more anime-ish or my own style?

If you think my art is worthy enough, do you think I should try to draw more TouHou?

thanks

right side is awful
left side isnt patchy but its still better

More like the one on the left.

I like both styles, but I'm bothered that her moon charm thing isn't curvy enough. You also forgot to add the buns on her hat, but it's a preliminary sketch so I don't blame you.

Patchu is someone who is mostly inside her library, reading books or studying spells. I'd expect her eyes to be half-closed, maybe a bit droopy.

Other than that, no big complaints.

The right one looks... I dunno, like someone's ugly sister. I mean it's not horrible, but it just looks off.

Thank you. I don't know much about TouHou or Patchouli so I appreciate the help.

I only had a few reference pictures and they were all mostly from the front, didn't notice the buns, only the ribbons. I'll also make sure to fix up her expression and posture to fit with her personality more.

Thank you so much!

Sorry, I guess I'm not very good with my own style. I do have a lot of trouble really, like apparently the head is too wide and the nose too long or something. I'll work on it!

It doesn't seem like you're in any risk of this, but make sure you don't think you're great. That said, it's not bad either, like what I expect from most people. Have you tried /ic/ already?

i know I'm not a very good drawer, but I enjoy it so I don't see the point in not trying to use it as a gift and stuff. I don't go on /ic/ because I imagine they'd be angry at me for not being too good, most other artists can get like that.

The wing of the nose looks a bit odd, but otherwise good.

Please keep questions like this in the drawfag thread.

The left one is good. I don't like the face of the right one so much, but if it's your style and you like that then consider it art.

I would suggest you look at some patchouli artwork (google picture is enough) to get more of an idea what features her. It can really be easy, some people just put the half-moon on her head and it's recognized as Patchu.

This is how patchouli should be drawn.

/ic/ is really not that bad. At first they will yell at you, but eventually they will fix your drawing and make it look awesome.

That right side is still anime style. make it more western if you want to make it contrasting.
