Disregard bad advice frequently posted in these threads. Things to avoid:
・Anime cards (the guide by QM). It recommends words cards, which are proven to be less effective than targeted sentence cards (TSCs).
・Core 2.3k. It is based on newspapers from early 90s and additionally sorted in a way that makes learning harder. Try Ankidrone Starter Pack instead.

i know it's just a repetition mark but is there any definitive way to tell how it changes pronunciation and meaning?
i've only seen it in 昔々 and 母のいた日々 so i don't really have any intuition on it
i know 日々 is "days" and 昔々 is basically "long ago" but i'm not sure how the plural of "olden days" becomes long ago. just like, the days are double old so it's a long time ago?

I barely passed N2 last time (92/180), so I wanted to try and get a better score before shifting focus to N1. I prepared way more extensively for reading this time, and I was hoping to walk out like a boss. I left feeling humbled.

Getting a 44 on the language knowledge section was literally the only reason I passed previously. I couldn’t believe how much harder the vocabulary section was on this one. The grammar was not impossible, but it was also surprising in its apparent resolve to avoid any of the points I’m good at.

For reading, I agree with the other poster that the long essay was a purposely dull slog and a time vacuum. I did it first and had to blaze through the short readings (which was too bad because most of them were interesting). For future reference, timed readings will save your ass.

Listening was not bad, but I lost focus and made several dumbass mistakes, including fucking up the last question.

The JLPT is a mental marathon filled with booby traps. It’s as much a test of endurance and concentration as it is of language proficiency. The test writers should be checked out for Dark Triad personality traits. Why make a test that’s so brutal you only need a 50% to pass? It has no business being the gold standard of Japanese tests, but it is what it is. I hope everyone reading this passed.

Yeah, it was a bit evident during the test run. The proctor opened the windows a wee bit and it eased a bit but with the simple single sentence test sound you can't understand how bad it will be if you're an amateur. Also, I doubt it was due to the room, it was probably due to the century old Sony radio which probably malfunctioned at a high audio, which the proctor refused to reduce midway.

I just couldn't understand half of what was being played later on, so much seemed to be slurred. There were a few others who complained of it, but many others weren't proactive, which I feel from their reaction to the other parts is just their usual level. I was a retard to follow the herd, but really, these things should be managed well by the admins without any shadow of doubt. I was so fucking furious, but I could only break my pencil in half and throw it away, which one of the workers (who was also chatting, albeit at a low voice) put back on my desk. I complained to their admins and a Japanese girl roaming around, but I doubt they give a shit about all my hard work. Not sure if I'm getting too mad, but this test meant quite a bit to me.

Finally back from N1. Die Bahn can suck my dick. I was worried about the first section (vocab, grammar, reading) the most because I only started studying kanji a year ago, but to my surprise it was a lot easier than I thought it'd be. I knew all kanjji and knew every word and every grammar rule. I probably still made a mistake somewhere, but I should have almost a perfect score there. To my surprise, I had more trouble with the listening part because I was mentally exhausted by then and I knew the hardest part was over and I just wanted to get it over with. There were a few questions where I must have missed something because none of the answers seemed right, so I know I lost a few points there. But overall, considerably easier than some of the example tests I've practiced with. Results will online mid January.
