Light novels are written in a much 'lighter' style - it has nothing to do with the length. Some light novels are very long, like Owari no Chronicle. They're almost written in a similar style to VNs, emphasizing dialogue and actions over descriptions.

Novellas are just short novels.

Instead of wasting your money on this, pick up In The Pool. It's 5 of the short stories the anime Trapeze is based on, with Irabu Ichiro. The one about penis petrification is awesome. I would qualify it as a light novel.

I understand the logic of removing an anime image from the cover, but I can honestly say that I would never buy a book that looked like this. So my main problem with the cover change is that they changed it from one thing I'd not want to associate with in public...to something else I'd not want to associate with.
