Technically she's a malevolent god, like her patrons, just younger.

That's why the ship works. Kogasa is literal trash trying to find purpose in her life. Sanae is a wannabe deity born after humans stopped worshipping gods.

Hence why their dialog carries cues of "what the fuck are we both doing?"

You are a human from the human village. One day you come out for a walk in broad daylight. After a while, you start hearing another set of footsteps, just out of sync with yours. It's probably just a fairy, but to be safe you turn around and head back towards home, but the footsteps get closer and louder, and you start running through the list of youkai you know how to deal with in your head. Unfortunately, you run through that list pretty quickly, and you start thinking about the ones you can't handle.

Just as you're getting to some of the really mean ones, Kogasa drops down in front of you, hanging by her knees from a tree-branch. You were so absorbed in thought that you reflexively jump back, and before you can recover yourself, her huge umbrella-tongue gives your face a nice long lick. She giggles, says "Thanks for the meal, mister!", and floats away into the sky, leaving you weak and drained, barely able to get back to your warm house.

You're bedridden for a few days, but the worst part is when you recover and have to face your friends. "So, what's the story?" asks a man who lost his left arm to Rumia. "Yeah, tell us" says the young boy who courageously rescued his two brothers from Yukari. There's a hush in the bar, and everyone's listening.

You try to obscure the details, saying you didn't really get a good look at the creature, but nobody's buying it. "You say it was a young girl?" they say. "Well, what did she look like? What's this about a long tongue?" The schoolteacher gives you a knowing smirk, and you have to admit that Kogasa surprised you.

The crowd erupts in laughter. Young children who have to be warned about fairies jeer at you. The man who once tripped over Youmu's phantom half sighs in relief: there will be a new butt of jokes in the village.

You're slowly becoming bitter. You develop a grudge against that umbrella youkai for making your life miserable. As the mockery worsens with each passing day, your rage gradually builds until it reaches its peak.

You're out for a walk in broad daylight, again. Again, you hear a set of footsteps trailing behind you and a faint giggle from a familiar, yet aggravating voice. You grit your teeth, clenching your fists as you take the same exact route back home.

Unsurprisingly, Kogasa repeats the same exact tactic she used to scare you the first time. Her legs hooked around the branch of a tree, she swings down and lets out a shriek. "Bero bero baa!!" However, in response you just remain standing there, glaring at her.

Recognizing that her plan had failed, Kogasa slowly grew nervous as she remained dangling from the tree, unsure of what to do. However, in the next instant she laid crumpled on the ground, dazed and confused as to what had just transpired. Her cheek bore a deep red mark, likely going to bruise. Feeling your presence looming over her, Kogasa brought her gaze upwards. Her vision was obscured by the tears welling up in her eyes as the pain began to register in her brain.

Before the umbrella youkai had the the opportunity to fully grasp the situation, you brought your fist down against her face again. Your right hook made contact with her left temple, sending shock-waves through her cranium as she let out another scream in pain.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry, mister..! P-Please stop!"

Kogasa tucked her head, guarding and obscuring her bruised, crying face behind her arms. She remained sitting there in front of you, quivering and shaking in terror. Minutes pass as you both remained fixed in your positions, the night air growing stagnant as the tension slowly subsided. Assuming she was safe, she lowered her guard and raised her head to take another glance at her assailant. But she lets out another shriek as you grab a clump of her hair, tugging her head upwards as you kneel down and glare directly at her heterochromatic eyes. Her face was streaked with tears, battered and bruised. She was unable to return your gaze, her eyes shut tight out of pure fear.

"Kogasa. That's what they call you, right?"

She nodded weakly in response. Her eyes remained shut tight. She bit her lower lip, balling her hands up into fists against the dirt floor. She expected more physical abuse, more pain, more torment. Yet, it never came. Instead, she was met with something else.

"Kogasa, over the past few days, I've heard stories about you. About who you are, and how you were born. And now I remember."

She was unsure as to what you were getting at, yet she remained sitting there and continued to listen.

"I wasn't originally from here. I came from a distant land, where the cherry blossoms bloomed in the Spring like in Hakugyokurou. I came from a poor family. Everything I owned was, more often than not, secondhand. And I remember for my seventh birthday I was given a hand-me-down, tattered umbrella. It was dingy. It had an ugly shade of purple. The other kids would laugh at me for bringing it to school on rainy days. It was always such a hindrance."

Tears welled up in Kogasa's eyes.

"Kogasa, did you ever wonder why you were born? Wondered what's the point of your existence? Wondered why you're even alive? Do you understand why I threw you away? Do you understand how much of a failure you are? You must have been aware of that fact in the deep recesses of your mind, yet you never wanted to acknowledge it."

Kogasa was sobbing.

"Quit lying to yourself. Quit trying to give your life any meaning when you're aware there is none. You're aware surprising me was just a fluke. You're aware you can't really scare anyone. And did you think you could compensate for your inherent uselessness by leading the life of a youkai?"

Kogasa's audible sniveling and whimpers continued to fill the air. She held up her hands against her face, cradling it as tears poured down into her palms. You learned forward, whispering into her ear.

"Your entire life is a failure and no one ever wanted you. So, isn't it better if you just killed yourself?"

In that instant, you were unable to see the expression on her face but you could easily imagine the overwhelming despair and sorrow her visage held. Standing up, you look down to see the defeated, lifeless figure of what was once Kogasa Tatara. Her arms dangled by her sides. Her eyes were vacant, pointed downwards and looking at nothing in particular. She looked pathetic. Looking to the side, you notice Kogasa's umbrella counterpart resting at the base of the tree. Grabbing it, you toss it in front of her before turning around and resuming your trip back home. With her disappearing out of sight, the tranquil silence of the forest was the only ambiance reaching your ears. Yet suddenly, from a distance behind, you could have sworn to have heard the sound of something snapping.

You never forgot that day, even after 12 months. Not only because what you did, how you got your revenge on the youkai that humiliated you, but also because of what happened the day after. That is, the day that the rain started.

And never stopped.

Sometimes is heavy, a never ending torrent of tears, other times is lighter, an almost gentle drizzle. But it´s constant and never ending. The clouds never leave. It almost can´t be considered a storm, there´s no wind nor lightning, but there´s almost no sun neither. Just the rain.

The village is in shambles, has been for a while. Not only due to the wooden buildings rotting, unable to handle the constant humidity, and not only due to the famine, any hope of farming crashed in the sunken fields, nor even due to the sickness, bodies weak due to cold and hunger being easy prey to disease. No, its the mood: there´s no one in the streets, no parties no festivals, barely any interaction with other human beings. The lack of sun or moon make day and night barely distinct in the winter, while in the summer, days in which you can see just a peek of sunlight through the grey clouds a short, but thanked occurrence. The souls of the people have become cold and bitter in mimicry of the weather.

It has reached the point that even the youkais are suffering, according to rumors. The vampire´s manor has become a bunker, all windows shut down with cement. The brick structure better suited to withstand the rain, but only up to a point. No one has seen fairies in a while, nature suffering untold damage under the unnatural weather. The kappas, to no one´s surprise, adapted quite nicely, but they´re apparently trying to create an underground cucumber farm in what they call a "submarine". They have even offered to share with the villagers, which they accepted. Like they accepted the additional free medicine coming from the salesgirl, even as she stopped hiding her rabbit ears. There´s no a lot of distrust towards youkais nowadays. There´s just no energy for it. Many would even accept to be eaten nowadays. depression has become just another pandemic, suicide attempts an everyday occurrence. The gloom and sadness has put down the spirit of the people, like fire under the rain.

You´re probably the only exception. another powerful emotion has filled you for a while now: Fear. Fear that you will get caught, that what happened last year will come out to light. Even if you tell yourself day after night that you have nothing to do with it. It´s impossible. How could it be? She was just a lowly trash youkai, an pest and an annoyance, the sort that the Shrine maiden slaughters everyday! All she did was scare people and... summon rain...

You try to calm yourself with whatever liquor you can find, which by this point is meager but at least an oni started sharing her supply recently. You´re about to start to drink yourself to sleep, when you hear the commotion outside. Its the Hakurei shrine maiden, along with a little girl... no, it´s a youkai, she has pink hair and strange red string surrounding her body, connecting a red eye-like orb to her. People say she lives underground, in a youkai city that´s starting to get flooded by the rain. You overhear someone say that she can read minds. As soon as you hear that, you realize what that means, and the second panic grips your heart... the youkai turns and stares at you. And you know she knows.

You start running, before the youkai finish saying "him".

>> No.37384548

>>37384538
The Shrine Maiden catches up to you with ease, didn´t even run, just calmy followed you until you tripped in the mud that is now gensokyo. you can´t even see her face, her body betrays no emotion to you... Is this what it feels to be a youkai? You shake the feeling quikly, fear turning to anger. You yell at the Miko; Is she not the protector of humans? is she really gonna believe the word of a youkai over that of a human? And even if he did it, who cares?

"So you´re not sorry, then", Her voice, the voice of a cute teenager, and yet filled with the authority and power of a demigod.

"Of course I´m not sorry! She was a lowly youkai! She sucked as an umbrella, and sucked as a youkai she was meaningless, and a failure and EVERYONE KNEW THAT!"

"I see."

She answers all your questions at once, with a chilling calmness. Slowly removing something from a pocket; a handful of needles. she holds them in her palm, and they slowly move by themselves, pointing at you. "Did you know she was also a blacksmith? She made and fixed these needles for me, you see. And as all things youkai do, they still have a bit of her spirit. And they know what you did."

She takes a stance to trow the needles. "...And I never paid her for the needles, so I feel like I owe her a favor".

She then threw the needles... at the sky. As you stand there confused turns around, gives you one last pitiful look, and flies away. As your trying to understand what just happened. You feel something odd. or rather, the lack of something.

The rain stopped.

You can feel the sun rays in your back, the clouds partying, nothing short of a miracle, and even beyond a miracle, when you see the rainbow. It the most beautiful sight you´ve ever laid eyes upon. you just stare in amazement at the sky, almost crying at the beauty and the release, the end of the nightmare...

And then you hear it, not with you ears, but with your soul:

"bero bero ba!"

And then you saw the needles. Not fast enough of course, with you eyes still adjusting to the sun, but just before they land in your eyes, 5 on each. another 10 land in your tongue when you yell out of pain. the rest just falls all over you as you run for shelter, trying in vain to think over the pain. But now matter how much you run and then crawl, not one needle fails to hit you. The last one hit your jugular, for good measure. As you lay there, bleeding to death, you stare at the open sky, now only a couple of clouds left. You last thought are of those clouds, even if you´re not sure you are actually seeing them considering the needles, but you can´t hel but feel like that cloud looks like and eye, and the rainbow a tongue, staring at you. Forever.

Yep and now here comes the good one ;)

Kogasa is not for bullying! I'll rewrite this story to be happy

You are a human from the human village. You have always been somewhat of an outcast, but not on account of you own doing. Your parents always went around spouting crazy ideas about how humans could coexist with youkai. Until one night when they wandered too far afield and were eaten by Rumia. There wasn't much left of their remains, but all that was your parents was interred at the Myouren Temple graveyard.

You resented them for their eccentricity, for you not being able to have a normal life. Children your own age even told jokes that you were a youkai yourself. For a while you lived in your parents home, doing what you could to eat. But one night you returned to find only ashes. You suspected it was a particularly vicious youkai hunter that had often been at odds with your parents. It didn't make sense to you, but as an orphan with no place to live you spent the days begging.

After a while you began to often visit your parents' grave. Afterall, you did love them, byut maybe it was more out of a sense of hopelessness. One evening when solemnly shuffling out of the graveyard, you start hearing another set of footsteps, just out of sync with yours. It's probably just a fairy, but to be safe you begin to pick up the pace a little, but the footsteps get closer and louder, and you start running through the list of youkai you know how to deal with in your head.

She giggles, says "Thanks for the meal, mister!", and floats away into the sky, leaving you weak and drained, barely able to stumble back into the human village.

For days you felt drained, barely able to drag yourself out of your ramshackle hovel to beg. The nicer residents would throw you some food here and there. Just enough to eat. It was funny. Had you been a normal boy with friends, they might have made fun of you for being scared by the blue-haired, young girl holding that ugly umbrella. But for you, it was just an inconvenience.

After a while you began visiting Myouren Temple again. You weren't really worried that Kogasa would bother you again, and if another youkai ate you, well you didn't feel like you'd mind very much.

When you arrive, you see a green head and a pair of dog ears sweeping.

"HEY THERE"

you cover your ears. That damn youkai is so loud.

"s-sorry" She said, a little quieter "Byakuren wanted to talk to you"

Your parents and Byakuren had been on good terms, but you had never really spoken with her. You find her easily in the main room of the temple.

"Hello there. You parents and I were good friends you know. It was shame what happened to them, and to your house. People and youkai inflict such suffering onto one another... As a way of upholding our friendship, I'd like to invite you to join the temple as a priest. You'd have a place to stay and meals."

"No thanks" you reply without much thought.

"I see... well at least accept this found" She hands you a nicely wrapped bundle. "I wish you to stay in good health"

You take the food and with bow head out to the graveyard. Your parents would have wanted you to take her offer, but why didn't you? Why do you keep coming here, even? To sit in front of the grave and curse them? To will them back to life? Honestly, it sounded like a good deal. But somehow, you just couldn't accept the handout. Despite you parent's views, it didn't sit right with you, accepting a handout from a youkai. Call it stubborn pride...

You're leaving the temple at dusk, again.

Feeling your presence looming over her, Kogasa brought her gaze upwards. Her vision was obscured by the tears welling up in her eyes as the pain began to register in her brain.

You cock back your fist to hit her again, your frustration from the past weeks ready to unleash itself on the diminutive youkai. Youkai were responsible for you ending up this way, and here this runt has the nerve to fuck with you.

"w-wait mister, please! I'm sorry!" She cried, her voice shrill and breaking.

But rather than feeling satisfaction at getting back at the youkai who scared you so bad, you feel only pity. Looking at the youkai kneeling in the dirt on the path, you ask her

"Why do you wait out here and scare people? It's not nice to scare people already in mourning, you know."

As it registered that you weren't going to hit her again, she slowly lifted her teary eyes.

"W-well humans are the ones that threw me away. Why shouldn't I scare them? What else should I do...I'm useless..."

Her voice became quiet and trailed off. She sat their crestfallen.

"Well now that I know your tricks you won't scare me again, so don't try it."

You told the youkai, perhaps a little too coldly. Stepping around her, you walk past her back to the human village. But Kogasa didn't leave your mind. Having been cast away, and living without a purpose, she reminds you of yourself. The thought stays with you for a long time, still playing back in your mind as you try and fall asleep in your drafty hovel.

>> No.37384611

It had taken some time, but finally you had begun to crawl up out of the gutter. Through hard work and tenacity you had been able to make some money for yourself. It wasn't much, but you could afford to eat enough and upgrade your falling apart ramshackle hut into something just habitable. People still weren't really acceptive of you, but what did it matter?
It had been a couple of weeks since you had visited you parent's grave, but on a whim you set out again to Myouren Temple.

You do as you had done before, leaving a small offering and slightly less curses this time. You still had not gotten over things, but there wasn't anything to do but move forward. As you left the grounds, you expected to hear Kogasa's footsteps and prepared yourself for her mediocre attempt at scaring you. But it did not come.

"Tch! finally wizened up huh?" You muttered.

Still, you couldn't help but feel a little...disappointed? No, that wasn't it. Why would you be disappointed to not see a youkai?

After a couple days you went back to the temple again. It wasn't out of the same despair that had drove you there at first, but rather it was a pleasant thing to do now. yes, that was it. It wasn't like you had friends, and though visiting the grave reminded you of things, it gave you something to do when not working. It wasn't like your dwelling was comfortable or that you had enough money left to visit a tavern. Maybe that dumb youkai will be around today, you think, but quickly dismiss the thought.

After doing the usual routine, and having a somewhat one sided conversation with Kyouko about music, you leave the temple.

Again, you hear no footsteps but see something just up ahead. Leaning against a tree with her eyes closed is Kogasa, her umbrella shading her. The eye on the umbrella is closed too. You wonder what she is doing taking a nap on the path instead of hiding in ambush like usual.

Sensing your presence, her eyes slowly open. She looks very weak, as if she was starving.

"B-boo..." she croaks out in a quiet voice, her umbrella's mouth opening and the tongue half-heartedly flopping out.

For a moment you are surprised. Did she really mean for that to be scary? But something isn't right. You think about just walking away, after all, what do you care what happens to a youkai. But your eyes won't leave her pitiful figure, and your feet won't move.

"WAAAH!!" you shout, falling backwards into the dirt.

Kogasa's eyes open wide, she is clearly shocked. But then, her mouth breaks into a wide smile.

"T-thank you..." She says quietly.

Her eyes beam at you, and a small tear rolls down her cheek. It looks like a little life has returned to her. But she does not move from where she is sitting. Without really understanding what you are doing or why, you pick her up.

"Where do you live?"

She points in a direction off the path. It makes sense that she would live nearby, since this is where she normally tries to scare people. With her and her umbrella in your arms you set off in that direction.

You come into a clearing where a large rough stone protrudes out of the ground. Against it stands a hut, not unlike your own. You walk in through the doorway and to you surprise there is a small blacksmith forge set up. There are numerous tools and metal implements hanging around, and a small bed in the corner. You set Kogasa down on the bed and lean her umbrella on the wall next to her.

"Thank you... I don't really mean to hurt anybody. Scaring people is just how I sustain myself. Though I'm not very good at it... I know I didn't really scare you, but it made me happy that you pretended...I'm sorry..."

Why is she apologizing? You're the one that hit her in the face the last time you met.

"Kogasa..." You started, but she was already asleep.

She looks rather peaceful laying there in bed. Overcome buy a sudden fatigue, you sit down with your back against the wall and fall asleep yourself.

The sound of metal clanging wakes you up. It's dark, except for a few slivers of moonlight filtering through the roof.

"huh Kogasa..."

You look but she isn't in her bed. Her umbrella is missing too. The hut seems empty, but you can't be too sure. Suddenly the thought hits you. You're alone in the middle of the woods. Kogasa isn't the only youkai that lives here. You think of Rumia and the fate of your parents, a chill running down your spine.

"Hey Kogasa! This isn't funny, you shitty youkai! and after all the trouble I went to--"

You sense something behind you.

"BERO BERO BA!"

You feel something wet and rough slide across your face.

"UWAAAA!!" You shout and fly backwards, slamming your leg into something hard.

"You damned Youkai!!! After I went out of my way to help you, this is how you repay me!"

Kogasa stands over you, a beam of moonlight falling on her face. She sticks her tongue out, and the umbrella does too.

"Sorry mister! I did tell you that I sustain myself by scaring humans. But thanks to you I feel all better now!"

She smiles, wider than she had before, and even in the dim light you can see that all her energy has returned to her. Man, this youkai is actually pretty cute...

No no no no. It's not time to be thinking things like that, especially about a youkai. You realize how stupid you are. Now you are out in the woods, without foot, and without a hurt leg. Sensing your fright Kogasa starts talking,

"Dontcha worry mister. Other youkai won't come here. And look, I got you some berries from the woods around her." She thrust a sack of berries into your hands. "You can stay here till mornin'. It'd be a bad idea to leave now, the woods can be scary at night ahahahaha. Oh and don't worry, I won't eatcha!"

While you were a little mad that she had scared you like that, but she was right. It's not like you could just leave now. Kogasa sat back down on the side of her bed, swinging her legs.

"Y'know this is the first time a human has been here. This is pretty excitin'"

"Don't go thinking you and I are friends. I just felt a little bad for you is all, laying on the side of the road half dead." You responded curtly.

She frowned a little at that, but didn't say anything else. You eat some of the berries she had given you, and then promptly fell back asleep.

You slowly awoke to sunlight filtering into the room. Hearing footfalls outside you looked to the door.

"Kogasa..?"

You looked to her bed but Kogasa was there sleeping. In a moment of panic you turned back around, only to see a flash of white and feel a cold steel blade against your neck.

"Don't move, human. What are you doing to Kogasa." the voice demanded.

"K-k-kogasa...I thought other youkai wouldn't come here!"

"Youmu! It's okay don't worry!" Kogasa had woken up. "That human is my friend"

"I see." Youmu Kanpaku sheathed her sword. "Kogasa and a human huh. That is surprising, but I am glad that you have found a friend."

"We're no--" You think of protesting but thought better of it.

"You can leave you swords by the door Youmu, I will have them sharpened in a couple days"

With a bow the half-phantom left. Kogasa told me that she often did blacksmith work for Youkai and some others around Gensokyo, even doing work for the Miko of Hakurei Shrine.

"I thought you said that you were useless?"

Kogasa blushed. "I-i'm not very good. I just help some people out sometimes is all. My true calling is scaring humans!" She nodded twice vigorously as if convincing herself.

That was surprising to you. To think that this is what that clumsy umbrella was doing when she wasn't lurking around the roads trying to scare people.

After talking with Kogasa a little more (for you with no friends the contact was nice, though you are loathe to admit it, she being a youkai) you thanked her and headed back to the human village.

"Bye mister!!" She waved energetically from the doorway.

Coming back into town, you couldn't stop thinking about the previous night. Kogasa was actually cheery and thoughtful, so why did she seem so depressed behind that? Did she really think herself to be useless? If the phantom youkai trusted her with her swords she must be pretty talented. Suddenly you bumped into something.

"Eh? what where yer going runt." a voice snarled. "Oh wut's this? If it isn't the son of those two youkai lovers? off playing in the woods with dem like yer parents did? They got wut dey deserveddd."

The man was tall and had a scar across his face that had robbed him of one eye. He was a youkai hunter, and you recognized him. He was the one who had burned down your parents house. His own family had been eaten by youkai, and now he was a bitter drunk. Among even youkai hunters he was known for his hatred of youkai, and for being cruel.

"So what if I was..." You ball your fist in anger. "You're just an old bastard who has nothing left but to drown himself in drink."

"Fucker!!"

He kicks you hard in the chest and you fall to the ground. With a couple more swift kicks he spits

"Do well to remember this, boy...Ain't nobody lookin out for yer ass. Least of all the no good son of them that think humans can get along with youkai."

With a malicious glint in his eye that seemed to show that his need for amusement had been satisfied for the night, he sauntered off.

As you lay there recovering you thought back to what he said. He was scum, but was it really okay? A youkai killed your parents. Sure, their eccentricity meant that you were seen as something of an outcast, and even now most won't help you, seeing you as a bad omen. But still, they had given you a good life. And now they were gone for good. Was it really okay for you get friendly with a youkai? It's not like you loved youkai, in fact, you definitely hated them. But Kogasa...Kogasa wasn't a killer. Her pranks were really harmless, and her situation honestly reminded you of your own. Maybe...

Your ribs still hurt. It had been several days since that bastard had beat you up, but doing labor each day wasn't helping them heal. It's not like you could just lay in bed. You had the feeling that the pity which led to you getting a job in the first place was a fickle thing.

You look around you hut. It certainly was improved from what it was, but you had a long way to go. I mean, even your only piece of cookware was almost useless. A battered old pan with a hole in the bottom so it couldn't hold liquids. Well, you did find out that Kogasa was a blacksmith and it has been a few days since you saw her...but its definitely not that you want to see her. You just need your pan fixed and she owes you for scaring you. Yes, that's it.

You figured you could find her on the village-Myouren temple road where she normally tries to scare people. Sure enough you after a while you hear those same footsteps.

"Bero bero BAAAH!!"

Kogasa jumped out from behind a tree bearing her sharp canines and wiggling her fingers at you. Her umbrella's tongue wagged out, trying to lick your face. You looked at her, not scared in the slightest. But since she looked like she might burst into tears you decided to play along.

"aaaaah" you said, somewhat half heartedly.

But still, she smiled. "H-hey I know you're faking it!"

"Then you should try being more scary and less adorable"

"A-adorable?!" She was taken aback, trying to hide her reddened cheeks. "Who are you calling adorable? I'm a scary youkai y'know. I'll eat you!!" She opened her mouth to show her teeth again. "Graaaah!"

"It's not that you're not scary. You just need to be more creative to surprise people, like that night at your house. When you do the same thing every time of course it's not going to surprise me."

"O-oh I guess you're right..." She fidgeted with her skirt, clearly embarrassed.

"Well anyway Kogasa, I have this pan I need fixed. Could you fix it for me? I'll let you scare me.

"Sure!" Her face lit up, beaming like a child's.

Back at her house, she got her forge going.

"Do you want some sake? I got it in exchange for fixing an oni's chains, even though I don't really like drinking."

Since you can never afford sake at the village, you gladly obliged. Kogasa got to work diligently working the bellows and getting the fires going. She set to work banging out the dents and patching the holes. You had seen blacksmiths work in the village, but those were grown men. Kogasa was no larger than a young human girl. Yet she deftly wielded a hammer that seemed too heavy for her. Really, she was quite adept.

When she was done she showed you her work. The pan was good as new. She even replaced the rotted wooden handle with a nice metal one.

"Wow! There's nothing I can't cook with this now. Thank you!"

You were beaming beside yourself, or perhaps the sake was getting with you. Yes, it definitely was. And against your better judgement you insisted that Kogasa share a drink with you.

"Eeeh?? Just what are you trying to get me to do?"

"Oh shut up, you may look like a little girl but I know you're more than old enough to drink! This is in thanks for you doing such a good job."

"but it's my sake, besides, I told ya that I don't drink, I only have this because an oni--"

"Oh come on!" What are you even doing? Getting friendly like this with a youkai. You hate youkai remember? "Friends drink together. You said we're friends right?"

It's not like you really want to be friends with this youkai. It's just that you never drink and you are caught up in the moment.

"Alright alright fine mister just one cup."

Kogasa was blushing and smiling beside herself, though she tried to hide it. Not that you really noticed, being drunk. She poured some sake into an ornate metal cup that it seemed like she had made herself.

"Kanpai!!!" You both touch cups together and drink.

It seems like Kogasa is a lightweight after all. After just the one cup she already seems tipsy. She confirmed it by pouring up another cup and drinking it. You both carry on like that for a while, drinking together cheerily. It almost...it almost really felt like having a friend. If only she was a human and not a youkai...

"Hey hey hey, play with with me"

Kogasa put her hands right in front of you, and leans in so her face is right in front of yours.

"Eh??" you lean back slightly, embarassed. "W-what do you mean play with you?"

"Y'know a game!" She leans closer.

Your face began to feel hot. "W-what kind of game." You may have needs but Kogasa looks like a little girl and is a youkai. What are you doing?? Idiot!

"W-who wants to do pointless things like that?" You say, turning your head to the side.

"Pointless?" She thrusts her cup into your face "Do you know what makes this cup beautiful? It's not that it can hold sake, but it's the useless parts" She pointed to the little designs on the sides that looked conspicuously like umbrellas "It's the same with life. It's the useless and pointless thinks that make it beautiful. And youkai aren't made up of power and hunger, it's the useless and pointless thinks that make the youkai...it's the...it's the" She stopped, and her eyes welled up with tears. "Waaaaah!! I'm useless!" She began to cry.

So she was one of those drunks. "Fine! I'll play with you."

As soon as the tears came they stopped. "Really?? Well then let's play hide and seek. That way I can scare you." She crossed her arms with a self-satisfied face.

"You know if you tell me you're going to scare me i'm way less likely to be scared."

"S-shut up!!" She was embarrassed again.

Outside it was approaching sunset, but Kogasa did say youkai don't come around here, unless they are seeking her services. What the hell? this is what people do when they get drunk, right?

"Count to 100 and then come find me! And no cheating"

Kogasa ran off into the trees giggling with her umbrella trailing behind her, tongue hanging out rather stupidly.

It had been nearly 30 minutes since you had set out looking for her. Jeez how far did she go? Her blue clothes and hair and purple umbrella should be make her the easiest thing in the world to spot, but you hadn't seen hide nor hair.

"Hey Kogasa, I know I said to be more creative when scaring people but don't you think this is too much?"

Silence.

Damn, it was getting dark. A slight bit of nervousness entered your mind. The drink was wearing off. What if other youkai came around? She said it'd be safe, but why should you trust a youkai.

You hear something rustle behind you. You wheel around but there is nothing.

Above you.

You look up to see a circular silhouette falling fast towards your head.

"Kyaaah!" you try and lift your arms up to defend.

A small pair of legs wrap themselves around your neck and something soft presses into your face. You fall back in surprise and opening your eyes you see a pair of blue and red heterochromatic eyes staring into yours.

"Wahahahah!!!" Kogasa sits back onto your chest.

"Betcha never saw an aerial assault coming huh!! Who knew umbrellas actually make good parachutes! hahahaha!" Kogasa laughed almost maniacally.

"D-d-damned YOUKAI!!!" and stood up pushing her off. Realizing what had just been against your face your cheeks grew hot. "Stupid Kogasa!! What do you think you're doing making me walk all over Gensokyo!"

She looked up at you from the ground, still smiling. "But I surprised you didn't I?"

The innocence of her smiling face disarmed you. There wasn't a hint of the sadness that you had caught sight of at times before. You laughed,

"Yeah, you did"

She stood up and with a hand on her hip, held a clenched fist up.

"Yosha~!"

"Alright that was payment for fixing my pan and the sake. It's almost dark, let's go back now."

As you start to turn back, the woods seem to grow darker. Far darker than they should be, giving that it's still twilight. Suddenly you feel chilled to your bones.

"Keheheheh" A menacing laugh came from everywhere.

It was the voice of a young girl, but it filled you to the core with dread.

"I know that scent...Yes it reminds me of a very filling meal I had not long ago"

Out of the darkness flutters a black skirt. Her read eyes glow. It's dark, very dark, but somehow you can still see her blonde hair and red bow. Rumia!

"You bitch!" Anger and terror well in your breast. This is the youkai that ate your parents. You reach down and pick up a stick, assuming a defensive posture.

"Oh what's this? how cute. You have that little ugly umbrella with you. Are you friends?"

"Shut up!" you cry, raising the stick. Really, what are you doing? Why are you defending a youkai. You should run. Every fiber of your being wants to run. But you don't. Have you really become friends with Kogasa? You, who has never had a friend, and whose parents died by the youkai in front of you, have become friends with a youkai?

"You can't!" Kogasa cries and steps forward. Holding up her umbrella, she prepares an attack.

But fast, faster than you could see, Rumia darts forward and sends Kogasa flying into the darkness. You swing the stick but Rumia is not there anymore. It is so dark you can't see anything. You fall back. Suddenly Rumia is straddling your chest. You can only hold your mouth agape. She slashes at your chest, ripping the skin and causing you to scream.

"It's good to terrorize them. It helps the meat."

Her eyes are wide and pupils mere slits. She looks like a beast, though her body is that of a girl. Her teeth have became fangs which drip with saliva, and her nails are red claws glistening in your blood

"But it's not enough"

With a swift movement she shears your arm off and holds it up, drinking the blood flowing from it. The pain sears white hot, and its a wonder you aren't passing out.

"It's not nearly enough"

She opens her claws and prepares another attack.

"STOOOOOP!!"

A beam of light dispels the darkness, slamming into Rumia and knocking her off you. Kogasa steps forward, holding aloft her umbrella. She fires another beam which blows apart a tree trunk.

"I WON'T LET YOU HURT MY FRIEND"

With tears in her eyes Kogasa fires bullets into the gloom, but they only hit foliage.

"You useless umbrella. What do you think you're doing? Not only do you not eat humans, but here you are defending one as a friend? It makes me sick. This is why you are such a weak Youkai. Yes, I know. You came to Gensokyo after being thrown away by humans. Yet here you are ready to throw your life away to defend one."

Rumia shot out from the dark and slashed at Kogasa, tearing into her side and ripping her umbrella.

"You're pathetic."

"Y-you're right." Kogasa said in pain. "Humans did throw me away. I couldn't fulfill my purpose. I wanted to get back at them, that's why I scare them. But I won't hurt them. Or else I'll end up like you, a lonely and blood thirsty monster who other youkai won't even approach!"

"Tch! useless talk!" Rumia slashed at Kogasa again.

"If you abandoned that pointless sentiment maybe you would have a chance of beating me. Go ahead. Eat that human there. Let's his terror fill you. Then you will get a taste of power."

"I won't!" Kogasa cried. "I may be useless, but he is my first friend. There may be no point to any of it, but that is what makes life beautiful. Ever since I met him I've been happier than I've ever been. Even when I don't scare him, he plays along. He accepts me! And I love him!"

Kogasa redoubled her attack and leap forward, firing bullets. Really? When had you said all of that? She loves you? you were only being nice out of pity. But maybe...

Lying there in your blood, the world was dark and cold. You could barely here anything, but Kogasa's words echoed in your barely conscious mind.

Your whole life you had not had a friend, and once you were alone in the world, you found a kindred spirit in Kogasa. Is that why you kept going back to see her. Looking back, whenever you had been with her you were happy.

Idiot. You really are an idiot. Falling in love with a youkai...

You barely are holding on. Your consciousness is bobbing just at the surface of an ocean of black and you are being pulled down, down, down, down.

As it all fades away you can still see Kogasa blue hair softly waving in the breeze. Her umbrella's tongue hands out, like a dog. Her heterochromatic eyes look up at you, filled with happiness, shining. And that smile...

"If this is it, then i'm glad that I met you Kogasa, please live." You say this, knowing that it was not heard. "I...I..."

You can't hold on anymore. But before you the world goes dark, you think you can hear the voice of a teenage girl.

"wow you're really awake"

Huh? Where are you? It's bright in the room, and the futon is soft. Sunlight is filtering in.

"You really almost died you know, and Kogasa would have too, if I hadn't been passing by and heard all the noise she was making"

Kogasa! The previous evens rush back. You sit up. You look at your body and find yourself wrapped in bandages. You're arm is still gone. It hurts, but you ignore it.

"What happened to--"

The girl bids you to be quiet and makes you lay back down. She had brown hair, with two bunches held together on each side by red cloth tubes. A big red bow adorns the top of her head.

"I'm Reimu, the miko of Hakurei shrine."

You were awestruck. So this is her.

"I owe that cute umbrella for always fashioning my needles for me" She held up the long, glinting needles. "she's not normally the type to get in fights, so I couldn't ignore it. When I saw she was fighting Rumia I thought she was pretty stupid. She definitely would have lost, but Rumia's no match for me. I didn't expect to find that she had been defending a human"

"She has been here everyday checking up on you. She usually avoids others, but she has been helping out at the temple as thanks for caring for you. Oh yeah, you're at Myouren temple by the way. I'll go get her and tell her that you're awake."

Reimu stood up to go, but stopped.

"Oh and one more thing." She thrust a box at you. It said "Donations."

"You can leave a donation to Hakurei shrine here, as thanks for saving you" She gave you a big smile.

You only looked at her confused. Once she realized you didn't plan on making a donation she coughed and excused herself.

After awhile she came back, and a blue shape flies through the doorway and leaps on top of you. It was goes Kogasa and she smiled at you, but then looked away.

"Geeze you really scared me"

She played with her skirt for a minute.

"hold on, I have something for you!"

Kogasa left the room and when she came back she was holding something wrapped in cloth.

"I took your measurements while you were asleep."

Unwrapping the cloth, you see that it is a metal arm. Kogasa fixes it to your arm.

"I put magnets in the hand so you can still hold metal things in it."

"You should have put a cannon in it" You laugh wryly "but really, it's amazing."

"You know" She says "I really did feel like I was useless before, but now I realize that it's not about what you can do so long as you have someone that believes in you"

She looks at you, awaiting a response. You can tell that she's blushing and not trying to hide it. She really is cute... "s-stupid youkai! don't go saying pointless things!"

"mean!!" she hits you in the head with her umbrella

"Ow!" you rub your head. "But really, thank you for risking your life for me. I'm glad I met you Kogasa..." Hesitating for a moment you say it "I love you"

She pauses for a second, startled, but then hugs you, burying her head in your chest. "I love you too!!" she says, sobbing.

I took you several more weeks to be fully healed from the fight with Rumia, but in that time you grew much closer to Kogasa, helping out at the temple together. When you went home, you made many trips to her home. And thought most of her scare attempts fall flat, you always play along. Eventually she came with you to the human village. At first the were suspicious, but once they saw her talent as a blacksmith, they at least warmed up to her for trading. Through your combined efforts many saw that she was harmless. People even tolerate her scaring pranks. You think it makes her happy to find acceptance among humans She even tried her hand at baby sitting, but wasn't very good at it. As for you, through hard work and with help from Kogasa's blacksmithing you found acceptance in the village.

They say that when it rains, you might see a man walking the streets of the human village with a blue haired, heterochromatic youkai, covered by a peculiar purple umbrella.

Here come the spin offs

"Huh? You like me?" Kogasa tilts her head to the side, flashing you a bright smile while giving her umbrella a spin. "Ehehe, I like you too, Anon-kun! We're friends!"

You shake your head and try to explain. Kogasa tilts her head to the other side with a confused look. "More than friends? I don't get it, what's more than friends?" You gesture to a village couple walking hand in hand with their cheerful child.

"Oh! I see." Kogasa takes on a serious expression and leans in closer, speaking in a hushed tone. "You want us to kidnap a human child and raise it as a pet together. It'll be tough-" She cuts herself off at your negative facial expression. This girl can't be this naive?

You say it flat out, confessing your feelings. Kogasa's cheeks redden and her eyes go wide, nervously fidgeting with her umbrella. "Ah-h, lovers? You mean, like, you and m-me? Doing *that* sort of thing, together?" She looks around, quietly "awawa"-ing, before finally locking eyes with you with a resolute stare and, with a swallow, purses her lips while closing her eyes and leaning in to you. Your heart flutters as you close your eyes to meet her, pressing your lips to-

A wet, rubbery wall of cold slick bumps greets you, your eyes immediately shoot open and you let out a muffled gasp as the red wet surface presses hard against your face and smothers you. The sudden resistance causes you to stumble back and land your behind on the ground, you look up to see a large red tongue hanging out of Kogasa's umbrella. Kogasa herself has a triumphant grin, bending down with a wink. "Haha! I surprised you, didn’t I! Haha!" She backs up and spins on one leg while you bring yourself to your feet, feeling heat building in your cheeks and ears. As you look around you see chuckling and shaking heads among the villagers watching the sudden spectacle. Maybe it was foolish of you to try to attempt romance with someone not human. It's not like you ever had a chance with regular girls.

"Hey, Anon-kun!" You turn your head and clench your jaw in preparation for more of Kogasa's gloating.

*Chu* A light blue blur rushes up to meet your face and suddenly there is warm softness on your lips, a gentle scent of flowers after a light rain, and after a fleeting eternity the kiss breaks and Kogasa lowers herself off her tip-toes and sticks out her pink tongue. A mischievous twinkle in her eyes. "I surprised you again," she whispers. Before you can find words to respond, she takes your hand and starts walking side by side with you, going nowhere in particular.

Apology to the first one spin off

Alright anon. Apology to Kogasa: you can imagine this going right after Kogasa scares you for the first time, and after being cold to her, you are silent for a moment and begin speaking:

After what felt like a long time, you could sense that Kogasa was still awake, and had been lying there in sadness. Though you loathe to admit it, it gets to you. After a moment's more hesitation you begin speaking

"Uh, Kogasa"

"huh? what is it?"

By her voice she clearly had not been expecting you to speak to her more.

"I'm sorry"

She didn't say anything. No doubt she was not used to being apologized to, especially by a human.

"for hitting you that is, when we first met."

"You don't have to apologize for that. I deserved it...after all I am pretty useless when it comes to scaring. People used to get wobbly in the knees after a good surprise, but these days it doesn't work so much. Plenty of people get fed up and say and do all kinds of mean things to me. The other day a group of kids even threw rocks at me..."

You could tell she was faking a cheerful voice, but at the end it fell away, revealing that it hurt her more than she let on.

"It was wrong to hit a girl"

"But I'm a youkai"

You glanced over at her. She was sitting up now, but had brought her knees to her chest and buried her head in her arms. It makes you feel pretty bad, so you look away. Why are you saying all this again?

"D-don't get me wrong, I hate youkai. It was the youkai Rumia that killed my parents not long ago. So when you tried to scare me I reacted out of anger, the anger that I had been saving up. I let it out on you just because you're a youkai. But you didn't deserve it. I can tell you wouldn't hurt anybody."

"But what use is a harmless Youkai! I was useless as an umbrella, and i'm useless as a youkai. I'm not powerful, and I can't even get back at humans by surprising them! I should just be thrown in the trash!"

"Is it really that you want to get back at humans? I am human, but you have been kind to me. And you aren't useless. After all you've made all of these things from metal. Most of this is better than anything you'd find in the human village."

You aren't really sure why you are trying so hard to cheer up this youkai, but you keep going.

"And earlier, since you put your mind to it, you actually scared me really bad."

"R-really?"

You can see in your peripheral vision that she lifted her head up.

"Yes, really, I have never been so scared"

That wasn't really true, but you've taken it this far.

"W-well I did put some thought into that" Kogasa says, just a little self-satisfied. "And since I scared you so good, that makes us even. So Kogasa forgives you for hitting her."

After a moment, you hear Kogasa stand up and come over to you. You look up at her, but you can't make out her face in the darkness. Suddenly a small pair of arms wrap themselves around you, and you feel her warmth against you. It feels warmer than anything you've felt since long before *that* day.

"Kogasa will be your friend"

"D-don't get ahead of yourself. Nobody said anything about that..."

You say that, but make no motion to remove her from yourself. Instead you both stay silently like that for several long moments. She let's you go, and returns to her bed.

"Goodnight"

"...goodnight"

Really just what have you gotten yourself into? well, it can't be helped now. It would be too much trouble to set her straight. It's okay to play along, you think.

In her bed Kogasa drifted off the sleep, with a slight smile on her face, a smile unseen prior. Though you were sleeping on the floor, you had become used to hard conditions. Yet somehow, your sleep that night was far deeper and more refreshing than it had been in a long time.

And again continuation of the good ending

I do this for you anon. I don't normally write things like this, but here it goes.

It had been some time since you recovered from being attacked by Rumia. With the help of Kogasa's blacksmithing skills, you had been able to build a small house and shop near the human village. It wasn't anything luxurious, but it was comfortable and it was yours.

Kogasa hammers away at the white hot piece of metal on the anvil. The hammer falls rhythmically, and you find it mesmerizing how such a small body could have such strength. She wears a pair of light blue thick overalls when she works, now stained by ash, and keeps her hair out her face with a red cloth tied around her head. You always thought it made her look a little boyish. As she hammers, her heterochromatic eyes shine with concentration from her soot covered face. She always looks a little boyish when she's working. Her body dripped with sweat from the heat, and your eyes can't help but be drawn the her side, where her overalls fall away from her body slightly to reveal that is not wearing a bra (not that she'd need one).

"Looking at something?" Kogasa says to you playfully.

Caught. For someone that most often acted childish, there were times when she was anything but shy.

"pay attention. I need you to bring me those" She points to some tool in a pile of tools, which she expects me to differentiate from.

You have been helping her with her work, and slowly learning about the trade yourself. Though having a one arm at first hindered you, you quickly got used to the prosthetic Kogasa made. You were pretty confident in the very basics.

After several hours, you finish working for the day. The constant labor had made you quite muscular, compared to before. But you don't know how Kogasa never gets tired.

"You're really something you know that Kogasa"

You could see her checks grow red even behind the soot on her face, and she looked down.

"A-are you trying to butter me up for something? I saw you looking at me earlier, p-pervert..."

Kogasa was still as susceptible to praise as ever.

"W-well I'm going to get clean. Don't get any ideas about p-peeping on me or anything!"

Man, she really gets flustered. For the time you've spent with her, you can't say that the thought has never crossed your mind. But Kogasa is your friend, and you've never done anything like that with a girl before. Besides, Kogasa was a youkai? Can youkai even have sex with humans?

You pondered this while tidying up the shop as Kogasa bathed. When she came back, she refused to make eye contact with you. Were you really making such lascivious eyes at her?

In the spring you washed the days grime off yourself. You scars from Rumia still hurt occasionally, but they had healed well. Besides your arm, you had angry, jagged lines of scar tissue running diagonally across your chest. Kogasa...if it wasn't for her you would have died then. Really, you were glad you had met her.

Your life with her had been idyllic. Living and working together, both your lives had improved so much from what they had been. Kogasa... thinking about her made your chest grow tight and your face hot. By now you accepted it, and a smile spread across your face.

You return from the bath, but you don't see Kogasa. Was she trying to scare you again? One thing never changed, and that was that Kogasa always tried to surprise you. More often that not not it failed, but you usually play along to make her happy. At least she could let you you dressed...

Wrapped in just a towel, you walk over to get your clothes from the dresser. But you think you see that something is moving under the covers in your bed. That stupid Kogasa, you bet that's going to wait until you are pulling your pants on, then jump out so you fall over. Really, she's too easy to figure out. You yank back the covers.

"Boo..."

"Waaah!" you jump back.

"d-did I surprise you... I got these from Sanae"

Kogasa was laying on your bed in lingerie. It was light blue and had red lacing decorating it. You stood there mouth agape. You were so surprised that you dropped the towel around your waist.

"K-Kogasa what are you--"

Noticing that you were now totally naked you cover yourself.

"I thought you would like this...I see how you have been looking at me. I want to please you..."

Her face was redder than her left eye, and she couldn't look at you. Seeing her there, embarrassed, and dressed like that you can't help yourself. She's so cute... you take a step forward and touch her thigh.

Is this really about to happen. She winces at your touch, but then puts her hand onto yours. She pulls you down, moving your hand to her cheek, and looks at you. By now she is breathing heavier and she looks at you lustily.

"I-it's my first time...so be gentle okay.."

You reply by kissing her. Kogasa...

I'm spending my Friday writing erotic fiction on /jp/...

Her lips are soft. At first she shyly kisses you, clearly inexperienced. But after a little she opens up, and suddenly grabs your head and you feel her tongue push itself into your mouth.

*hah* *hah* *hah* In between kissing you both breath heavier and heavier.

Kogasa smells so good its intoxicating. You lift yourself off of her and straddle her on your knees.

"W-why'd you--"

With your one hand you grab her bra and try to take it off, but struggle with the clasp.

"S-sorry this is my first time too you know."

Kogasa grabs your hand and with the other she puts a finger to your lips. She sits up and deftly takes off her bra, throwing it to the side where it gets caught on her umbrella, laying closed against the wall.

At first she reflexively covers her chest, but lets her arms fall to the side, but looks off to the side. Her breasts are small and perky. Seeing her naked like this, you can see that despite her small frame, she actually appears rather fit. You think about making a joke about her nipples not being different colors, but you think better of it. You reach out and touch her. Her breasts are soft, softer than anything you can remember feeling. You squeeze her hard nipple between your fingers.

"ahn" She lets out a soft moan.

It's too much. You push her back down, and with your one hand interlocked with her hand, begin kissing her boobs and sucking on her nipples. Her moans intensify.

"S-stop..." she whimpers

You look up at her

"N-no keep going..."

Her eyes seem to be about to tear up, but are mistakably filled with pleasure. you continue, and with her free hand she grabs your hair. Removing your hand from hers, you trail it down her body. With only one hand, its difficult to stay balanced, but thankfully working has a blacksmith has given you a stroke core.

With you muscles tensed you use your tongue to play with her nipples. You aren't sure if this is really the correct technique, but her moans speak for themselves. You feel her stomach. Her skin his soft, but you can feel a firmness beneath. No doubt her muscles have to be reasonably developed for her to work like she does, but it doesn't show in clothes. At a glance she still has the petite form of a young woman. But you take your time to feel every curve, every muscle, every place of the body that is Kogasa's with your one hand.

You make your way downwards and feel the laced border of her panties. Her legs cross together at first, but after a moment open up, and you slide your hand underneath the cloth. You feel the softness of her pubes before reaching her womanhood. So this is a girls...
It's soft. Softer than her boobs, and wet. As you press your fingers into her she tenses and moans.

This is too much. You can feel yourself growing hard, it feels like you want to burst. You move your fingers instinctively. Kogasa's grip on your hair tightens and she pulls your head back. The look on her face surprises you. She has the face of a youkai before it eats someone. Her pupils are narrow, and her open mouth bears sharpened canines. Her breathing comes so heavy you can almost see the steam.

So this is a youkai in heat. Where before she was a cute girl, now she appears almost predatory. You slip a finger into her, and in a sudden movement she bits her sharp teeth into you neck. It should be painful, but it only increases your pleasure.

"ai wan yu ta hnnnng" It seems like she's trying to speak while biting you.

Releasing you neck she says in a desperate voice

"I-I want you to put a baby in me!"

Can humans and Youkai even have babies? Whatever, this isn't the time.

With your hand you begin to pull her panties off and she helps you. You pause to look down at her. Her pubes are light blue, like her hair. So the carpet really does--

She pulls you down and wraps her legs rightly around you. Whispering in your ear she says

"put it in me"

She is dripping at this point, and you don't even need your hand to guide it. You slide right into her, as far as it can go. Kogasa lets out a loud moan, and you feel her nails dig into your back. Were they always so sharp? In this situation, the pain only adds to the intensity.

You begin to stroke, slowly at first, but speeding up as you find your rhythm. At some point Kogasa bit down on her own arm, her face contorted in pleasure. Seeing her like that only made you passions run wilder, and you began to thrust even hard her.

You're overcome with a wild lust, and in your high passion grab her by the throat. Kogasa...your cute friend. Is it really okay to do this to her? As if sensing this, Kogasa opens her eyes and locks with yours. In her eyes is nothing but the deepest passion for you, and they seem to say

"do whatever you want"

In answer you move her legs onto your shoulders and deeply thrust into her.

"AAAAHN"

I didn't really mean to go this long, but now Voluptas is writing through me.

You stare into her red and blue eyes, being sucked deeper and deeper into them in the heat of this moment. You kiss her passionately, and she responds ferociously. It is as if you are trying to devour each other. This is hardly the Kogasa you know. But it is Kogasa. Your Kogasa.

You pull your head back and look into her eyes once again.

"Kogasa!" You shout her name between thrusts. "I love you!"

"I lo--" she is forced to pause as she bites her lip and closes her eyes "I love you!" She shouts it, as if declaring it to the heavens.

You are getting close and she is too. In a swift movement she removes her legs from your shoulders and wraps her legs around you once more. But this time her grip feels as if she is trying to snap your spine. Kogasa is strong... Digging her nails into your back she screams

"Cum in me!"

You're at your limit. You thrust as deeply as possible and release. Pleasure arcs through your brain, and your vision even flashes white. Kogasa also finishes too, crying out and arching her back, squeezing you as tightly as possible.

For a long time after you and her laid them, sweating her tired. You think she even drew blood on your back, which she sheepishly apologized for. You think she might be embarrassed that you saw her in that state, but you reassure her that you love her--all of you. She smiles at you. Eventually, you both drift off the sleep, her small hand clasped tightly in yours.

Alright anon. You know writing stories like this is pretty fun. Here it goes.

You are working in the forge with Kogasa when you notice something peculiar. There is a man standing in the road in front of your shop, just staring. He is tall, and looks somewhat ragged in appearance. A long and tattered brown cloak conceals most of his body, and a large brimmed back hat conceals his face. Yet, you are getting an odd feeling from him, like he is bearing towards you some animosity in particular...

You think that you might go and tell him stop menacing the roadway, when someone enters the shop. It is a youkai. The first thing you notice is the crow sitting on her shoulder. Her red eyes met with yours and she smiles in greeting. The puffy white balls on the tassels of her little hat bounce as she hops over to you. It's Aya Shameimaru.

"click click" She's pointing her camera at you and mimicking the shutter with her mouth.
"Just kidding! it's broken, see?" She thrusts it out at you as if you know how it works.

You have met Aya in your travels. She never hesitates to begin (often unprompted) to tell you about the goings on in Gensokyo, and always asks you if you know of any rumors she could look into.

"Um, Aya. You know we work with metal here right? I don't know anything about technology from outside Gensokyo."

"Aw, but it has metal on it. See? See?!"

"Caw! caw!" The crow was supporting its master.

"Let me see to Aya" Kogasa had finally looked up from what she had been doing. "I can look at it at least"

Kogasa smiled brightly. Ah, she's so cute...

"Say, Aya, with all your comings and goings to happen to know anything of regarding that mysterious man out there?" You inquire.

Aya whips around and peers at him.

"Tch! could you be more conspicuous?!"

"Ah I know him. That man's a youkai hunter. Honestly, he's second rate. But he's violent and tenacious. They say that he takes his time the youkai he overpowers. Even still, he's seen as an old drunk by most, so not many are willing to hire him. Ah, what was his name..."

In an instant you realize why the man put you on edge. You subconsciously place your hand on your ribs.

"That bastard! He's the one that burned my parents' house down and put me on the street! I know he is! And he also gave me a beating that I haven't paid him back for."

You pick up a nearby hammer and tighten your grip. You take a step towards the doorway.

"Stop!!" Kogasa jumps out in front of you, her eyes full of concern. "That man is scary. I've seen him on the road, but I always was too afraid to try and surprise him. You don't need to go over there. He's not doing anything. Please."

"Oh yeah that's right!"

You both look at Aya, who has been thinking this whole time.

"Now I remember his story. I had written an article on it when it happened. That suffered tragedy at Scarlet Devil Mansion."

Aya began her telling of the events.

In the road the man glared at the young man and two youkai talking in the shop across from him. He hated the boy, honestly. It was not that he had done anything, but it was a grudge borne of past events, events that couldn't ever be forgotten. How could he be happy, after what a youkai did to his parents? Yet here he is, having taken one as his lover and always entertaining others. That bastard...he should wipe that smile off his face. He has no idea. The man grits his teeth as his mind wanders back to the past.

Many years prior he was the same age as the boy. And at that time he had a fiance, whom he had know all his life. Her name was Rin. She had two friends, also a couple, who became close friends of his too. They were Shin and Megume.

Not unlike other youths, but perhaps more brazen, the four had been possessed by wanderlust. They ranged far from the human village, and did not fear youkai. Overtime they even became friends with the more amicable ones, and with fairies and other entities of Gensokyo. Through good fortune, they had never encountered any youkai which might threaten their safety. One day, with the red spires of Scarlett Devil Mansion in sight, the four encountered a sight which they had never seen before. Taking cover behind a small rise, they watched the events unfolding on the road.

"Ojou-sama! OJOU-SAMA!" What look to be tall woman with white hair was yelling. She held in her arms a purple-haired young girl, except she had black wings protruding from her back.

"See? This is why I said that we should have gone back already. Oh, Why did I have to be dragged away from my studies!" The one complaining had long purple hair and wore a large purple had. She was leaning on a walking stick and appeared to be quite tired. A red haired youkai with little black wings on her head put a hand on her shoulder.

"Now, now master. You'll be back in your library soon. But should you really be carrying on like this, with the young mistress in that condition..."

"You shut up Koakuma!!"

"She's right Patchouli" The white haired one snapped "You should know just how dangerous it is for Lady Remilia to be out here in his condition!"

Patchouli grumbled something inaudible and Koakuma kept rubbing her shoulder.

"Hong!" The white-haired woman shouted at the red-haired woman standing beside her. "The umbrella!"

Hong adjusted the umbrella that she was holding. She looked down and to the side, as if she wanted to be removed from the situation, but her face still showed concern.

"You know Sakuya, we did walk alot farther than we planned, but it's hard to argue with the Lady when she get's like that. Still, we're only a couple miles away."

"Ah Lady Remilia, why did you insist on walking in the daytime when it had been that long since you ate!" Sakuya looked defeated. "If only there were a human around."

At that moment Hong's head snapped toward them.

"Shit!" Rin had stuck up her head a little to far.

"Idiot!" Megume slapped her head. "Did they see us??"

Shin spoke in a hushed whisper, "I have heard of them. They live in the Scarlett Devil Mansion. I heard that the Lady of the Mansion eats humans. That must be the purple haired--"

"Hi-ya!" At that moment there was a flash of green and leaping over the embankment with a flourish, the red-haired woman landed in a martial stance behind them.

"Now, what do we have here" The red haired demon was floating in front of them, a fire ball blazing in her hand.

They were totally trapped. Without a word of protest the four allowed themselves to be taken to the roadside.

"Good job Kaokuma" The purple-hat girl said in a haggard voice, looking up from her staff.

"Shut up you lazy mage, you didn't do anything" The red-haired woman snapped at her.

"T-that's not true! I'm the one who summoned Koa-"

"Who are they Hong?" The white-haired woman, who they now saw was dressed as maid, was holding the young girl closely in one arm, the other holding a silver knife defensively.

"Do they mean to harm lady Remilia?" She spoke calmly, but her voice told them that their safety depended on their answer.

"N-no!!" Rin spoke holding her hands out in front of her. "We wouldn't do anything like that! We're from the human village, and we only happened upon you. We were only curious!"

The other three kept silent, thinking that if they all began speaking it would only make things worse.

"You are a long way from the human village." Hong's voice came bluntly from behind them.

"W-well that's true." Rin continued, "but really, we mean you no harm! You said that the girl needs--"

"The young mistress" The maid said, in correcting her.

"T-that the young mistress needs blood. She can have some of mine." Rin pulled down her shirt and exposed her neck.

The maid narrowed her eyes. "We would have taken your blood anyway, but it makes it easier if you are willing. I am Sakuya Izayoi, a human."

"I am Rin."

At Sakuya's beckoning, Rin stepped forward. Seemingly sensing the presence of a human, The purple haired vampire opened her eyes.

"Lady Remilia, I have some blood for you." Then looking at Rin, Sakuya said "Don't worry, she won't take enough to harm you."

In a swift movement, the young lady grabbed onto Rin and sank her teeth into her neck. Rin winced, but did not cry out. While this was happening, the other's made their introductions.

"Sorry for the rough introduction. I'm Hong Meiling, youkai and gatekeeper." The red-haired woman said.

Hong looked at the purple-hat girl, who seemed to be barely holding herself up. "Patchouli!"

"Shut up you muscle head! I'm dying..."

Hong shot a little green ball of light out of her fingertip, which hit Patchouli in the forehead.

"Mukyu~" She rubbed the spot where it hit.

"There, there master" The red-haired devil rubbed her master's back.

"I-i'm Patchouli Knowledge, a witch and at you service..."

Somehow the three thought that she did not actually mean for them to request any services at all from from her.

"I'm Koakuma, a devil and assistant of Patchouli." She smiled at them.

"I'm Shin."

"I'm Megume."

At first the boy said nothing, but feeling that an answer was expected of him began "My name is..."

"FUWWWWAAA" At that moment the vampire and mistress removed herself from Rin's neck. "Thanks lady that was refreshing. Your blood is very tasteful."

"Ojou-sama!" Sakuya practically had tears in her eyes.

The young lady stood and with her hands on her hips proclaimed to the four, "I give you my thanks humans! I was quite famished."

Though she had the voice of a little girl, she spoke in a refined manner.

"I am Remilia Scarlett, Lady of Scarlett Devil Mansion. I give you my thanks."

Rin, not knowing what else to do, bowed. Shin and Megume followed after, with Shin pulling the boy's head down, for he would not have bowed otherwise.

"The hour is late. You must be tired from traveling and from having your blood drunken. Please, accompany us back to Scarlett Devil Mansion and we will treat you, as thanks."

They were curious, sensing that this was an opportunity not given to many humans. And at the same time they feared offending the Lady by declining. So Rin answered for them all.

"We would be honored"

They all began walking down the road to Scarlett Devil Mansion.

"Thank goodness. I'm so tired. Hong, carry me!"
Patchouli whined.

Hong said nothing but flicked her in the head.

"Mukyu..."

They walked the couple miles to Scarlett Devil Mansion, which passed without incident. Sakuya and Hong asked the four about their lives and about news from the human village, and in return told them about the happenings in around the Mansion, and of the youkai in the area. Kaokuma would occasionally interject with a totally irrelevant question, while Patchouli whined the whole time. And a few times, having seen a particular landmark, Remilia would tell a story about it, evidently having been in Gensokyo a very long time.

Eventually the great red brick clocktower of the mansion loomed into view, and the party arrived at its wrought iron gate. Hong stepped forward, and with a wave of her hand, the gate slowly swung open.

"Welcome to Scarlett Devil Mansion. You are the first humans to set foot here in quite some time, besides Sakuya of course." Lady Remilia said.

"I'll mind the gate." Hong said, and with a salute to them faced back out to the road with her arms crossed.
They walked across the courtyard and entered the mansion through its massive wooden doors.
The four were in awe. In the human village, a three story building was seen as massive. The ceiling here rose far higher than that. The wooden, often drab architecture of the village was nothing like the beautiful stone here. The antechamber of the mansion was large, with a ceiling higher than anything they had ever seen. Great columns lined the the room on both sides. Two curved stair cases rose to left and right to a balcony, and between the staircases was another set of doors. On either wall were tall red stained glass windows.

The proceeded across the room, footsteps echoing in the cavernous space, and walked through the double doors at the far end of the room. The entered into a hallway. The hallway seemed to extend far, whereupon it turned. And it turned many times after that. It was decorated by wallpaper, which was white and decorated with intricate designs. A carved wood border separated the wall from the floor and and ceiling. At regular intervals were unknown white wooden doors, with golden chandeliers lighting the way. Occasionally there was a branching hallway, where they saw maids or what looked like devils going about some business. Some of the maids looked human, but since Remilia had said that Sakuya was the only human in the mansion, they didn't asked. They knew that most youkai looked more or less human anyway.

It seemed as though they had been walking for far too long, like the hallways could not have possibly fit in the mansion. They were labyrinthian.

Shin spoke up, "E-erm isn't this hallway kind of long?"

Sakuya responded, "Yes, it is that way as a defense against intruders. Because you are our outsiders the distance appears larger. For us that live here it is much shorter."

They did not really understand, but did not pry either. Around the next turn the entered into another chamber. It was not unlike the first, but smaller and with no windows. There were also double doors on the left, right, and far side of the room.

"I am going back to the library." Patchouli, looking more dead than alive by this point, shuffled towards the left door with Kaokuma in tow.

Sakuya and Remilia led the four through the doors on the right. After a shorter walk down another hallway, they arrived at a room.

"Please refresh yourselves in this guest room," Sakuya said. "We will reconvene for dinner shortly."

Sakuya bowed to them, and her and Remilia went back down the hallway. The four stayed watching, and to their surprise saw Remilia tug on Sakuyas arm, whereupon the maid picked her up and placed her on her shoulders, and the two continued like that.

The four entered the room, and found it luxurious like the rest of the mansion. It had two large beds, bigger than they had ever seen, made of white wood and having red sheets. Each bed had a sort of canopy covered by a wispy white fabric. There were no windows. On one side of the room was a door leading to a bathroom. It was like nothing they had ever seen. There was a shiny white basin for washing. Next to it there was another basin, made of the same material, and which looked like a seat.

"I guess we...shit in that?" Shin said, and Megume punched him in the arm.

There was also a larger basin on the floor, clearly for washing oneself. The four took turns refreshing themselves, then sat on the beds.

"This mansion really is incredible huh?" said Megume. "I've never seen anything like it."

"Yeah wait till the guys back in the village hear about this!" Shin said, having laid back on the bed with his arms behind his head.

The boy only nodded in agreement. Suddenly Rin jumped up and with a mischievous grin looked at the other three.

"This is a golden opportunity. As far as we know, no other humans have been in this mansion before!"

"That's true," Shin said "I had never heard about it from anyone in the village before. Some strange traveler is the one that told me about it. Still, I never imaged that it would be this amazing."

"Sooo why don't we take this chance and explore!" Rin's eyes were beaming and she was holding her hand in front of her clenched into a fist.

The boy loved this about her. She was fearless and always took an opportunity for adventure head on. Though he said nothing, he was curious too.

"N-no way!" Megume sounded terrified. "Don't forget that youkai live here. We could stumble into some monster! We could be eaten!"

Rin shot back, "Don't be such a baby Megume. You like books don't you? Imagine what kind of rare stuff you'd find in the library that witch was talking about. besides she doesn't seem that threatening."

Shin stood up, "She's right. We can't pass something like this up. But still, we shouldn't just waltz out and get caught."

"Duh! We'll wait until after dinner, and when everyone is sleeping we'll--"

There was a knock at the door, and a young girl's voice came, "The Mistress wishes me to inform you all that dinner is ready."

They opened the door and standing there was a girl about half their size wearing a maid uniform like Sakuya's. She had dark brown hair and green eyes. The translucent wings on her back to them that she was a fairy.

"This way."

They set out down the hall from which they had originally came. Coming into the same chamber from before, this time they went through the doors that had been on the far side of the room.

This time there was no hallway. The doors opened straight away into a large room, as large as the one at the entrance. This time there were no windows, and a massive golden chandelier kept the room dimly lit. In the center of the room was a long dark wooden table, almost as long as the room itself. At the far end sat Hong, Patchouli, Kaokuma, Sakuya, and Remilia at the head.

They sat at the table. They noticed that Remilia's chair had much longer legs than the rest, but said nothing.

"Welcome, guests" said the Lady Remilia.

Fairy maids came from a door at the side holding platters which had various foods, some of which they had never had. There were various meats and even seafood, which was a mystery since there was no sea nearby. There was fluffy bread and steaming vegetables. Sundry fruits sat on raised silver platters like ornaments. Each guest had a silver goblet, into which was poured wine. Since there was only sake in the human village, they were in awe. The Lady Remilia received her drink from a different bottle.

"I can drink preserved blood" she explained, "but it is not as good as fresh blood"

They all ate and talked. The food was delicious and their seemed to be no end to it. The fairies came in and out, bringing new dishes and taking away old ones. Before long they were onto seconds, and then thirds. Patchouli always seemed to be one round ahead of them.

"So" Hong began "does it bother you to be eating at the table of a vampire with a devil and witch. Sakuya's no ordinary human either."

This time it was Shin who responded first. "You all are much kinder than I had heard. And no wonder, always getting to eat such good food as this. Who'd need to eat humans?"

Kaokuma laughed "Humans still taste good."

Patchouli shot her a look and she giggled. "fufufu just kidding."

"I was scared at first, but you all are actually really nice" Megume added.

Rin continued, "besides we have made friends with some youkai and fairies before."

Sakuya raised an eyebrow at that. "Really? You all think that humans and youkai can be friends?"

"Well aren't we friends now?" Rin replied "After all you did invite us to your table."

"That's true, but not all non-human residents are as friendly as the Mistress. Many will attack and eat humans, and humans justly fear them. Most do not care to risk finding out which are friendly."

"Maybe we have just been lucky, but we have only come across friendly non-humans, or at least those who are non-violent. I think that humans and non-humans should try to be friends. There are many things we could learn from one another, and many things we could share."

Shin and Megume nodded in agreement. The boy said nothing, but he liked the sound of what Rin had said.

Remilia nodded as well. "Yes I concur. After all it would be easier to get blood if more humans and us were friends. I need to get it one way or another, and when they struggle all terrified it frankly ruins the taste. It tastes much better when the human is willing like you Rin."

Again I'm going on for a while with this, but I'm enjoying writing about Scarlet Devil Mansion.

After a moments pause she added "I do hope that you let me have some of you blood again. I haven't had such good blood in ages." She then smiled cutely at Rin.

Her little girl voice speaking in such an aristocratic way was funny to the boy, but despite being a little drunk from the wine he managed not to laugh.

Rin blushed. "Thank you for saying so Lady Remilia, it would be an honor."

Suddenly Megume spoke up, "S-so I know none of you eat humans...but is there really nobody in the Mansion who does."

For a moment a dark look flashed across Remilia's face, not that any of them noticed it in the dim candle light. She smiled.

"As long as you don't go off on your own..." Remilia held up her hands and wiggled her small fingers, bearing her sharp teeth and sticking out her tongue. "Then I might decided I want more than just your blood."

At this Megume seemed terrified.

"fufufufu" She covered her mouth as she laughed "I'm only joking."

Patchouli spoke up in a deadpan voice and without looking up from her food, "If you come into my library and bother me then I really will eat you."

She looked like she had recovered from earlier, but still had a gloomy and disinterest air about her. Beside her Kaokuma smiled and pulled her cheek back, revealing two rows of sharp teeth. The wings on her head flapped up and down while she did this.

"N-no thanks...I hate books..." Megume said.

At this they all laughed. But then Rin spoke up in a more serious tone.

"It is my dream that one day all humans, youkai, and the rest of the non-humans in Gensokyo can all be friends."

"I will toast to that" Lady Remilia said "For then I will be able to drink all the fresh blood I want fufufufu."

"As will I, since I am a human myself" Sakuya said.

The rest of table all raised their glasses and toasted to their own newfound friendship, and to Rin's dream.

After this they were brought desert, which consisted of many pastries and cakes. Curiously none was placed in front of Patchouli.

"H-hey where's mine!" she demanded. It seems that she got quite serious about sweets.

"You need to go on a diet fatty" Remilia teased.

It seemed that when she was comfortable in her own home she showed more of a childish side.

"L-lady Remilia..." Patchouli looked like her soul had just left her body.

"She's right" Hong added. "You need to get in shape."

"S-shut up, you damn muscle head!" She looked angry now.

Beside her Kaokuma was barely containing her laughter. Sakuya kept silent, but had an ever so slightly visible grin on her face.

With Patchouli resigned to pouting, they all began eating. The four thought to themselves that there was not more delicious confectionaries in all of Gensokyo.

"This is delicious!" Megume said with her mouth full.

"This is why I hate humans" Patchouli looked like had a storm cloud over her head.

A couple times she tried to reach for a pastry anyway, but each time Remilia would shoot a red magic dart from her hand which would cause the pastry to vaporize before Patchouli could eat it, saying "no fatty" and laughing each time. Kaokuma comforted her throughout this ordeal.

When they had finished, the fairies cleared the table. All departed, and Sakuya took the four back to their room.

"Thank you for helping Lady Remilia earlier. You are welcome to stay with us for as long as you like, so long as you will return the favor by providing some of your blood to Lady Remilia. Feel free to make yourselves at home, but please remain in this wing of the mansion."

They all thanked her for her hospitality, and she left them.

"Fuwaaa I'm stuffed" Megume said, flopping onto the bed.

"That was the most delicious meal I have ever had." Shin flopped down next to her.

But Rin chastised them. "Don't get too comfortable. Remember what we discussed earlier. This is the perfect chance to find out the secrets of this place."

Megume moaned "Whaaat but i'm so full. And you heard what the Lady said. She told us not to go wandering around."

Shin added, "Besides I thought you said you wanted to be friends. The maid said to stay in this wing. Do friends break the rules and snoop around each other's houses?"

Rin became flustered. "T-that's true, but will you really turn down such a good opportunity for adventure?" She put her hands on her hips. "besides you saw how nice they were. What's the worst that can happen! In the worst case we'll just apologize and say we got lost."

The boy did think she was taking the non-humans too lightly, but he liked that rule-breaking side of her. He said nothing.

"ugh fine" Megume said "I do want to see that library, so long as we avoid that gloomy witch."

The matter being settled, the waited a couple hours to be safe and set out from the room. At this hour the lights in the hallway were very dim. Well, vampires do like the darkness. It seemed that some magic controlled their brightness at different times.

The headed down the hall back to the same chamber from before. Where before there had been sparse activity, at this time the halls were totally deserted and silent. The four were conscious of their own footsteps and breathing. When they reached the chamber, they quickly crossed the room and slipped through the door across, that is the door that Patchouli had early gone into to get to the library.

Beyond the door the hallway was much like the one that led to their room. The moved down it, on high alert knowing that now they were where they weren't supposed to be.

At the end of the hallway was a square room. At the center of it was a staircase that sank down into the floor. It had two glowing red crystals set on pedestals lighting the entrance.

Thinking that this conspicuous staircase must naturally lead to the library, they headed down. They stairs went on for a while, so that they could tell they were being taken underground. When it ended they found themselves in a cold stone hallway. Unlike the decorative hallway above, this one was bare and lit only by dim red crystals recessed into the walls.

Not knowing where the library was, they headed to the right. Like the rest of the mansion, this basement area was a confusing labyrinth of hallways. They figured that the library would be attached to the main hall, and to avoid getting lost did not turn off into any side passages. As they went on, the floor seemed to slope downward. It also grew colder.

Finally the hall came to an abrupt end. But instead of a wall, there was a lone white wooden door, just like the ones in the mansion above. And the door stood ajar.

"W-what is this?" Megume's voice trembled. "Is this the library?"

Before anyone could respond, the crystals that lit the hallway flickered and went out.

"W-what's going on?!" Megume was about to panic.

It was pitch dark.

"Sh! Do you hear that?" Shin whispered.

It was nearly inaudible at first. But they could just barely hear it. It was a sound like many glass bottles softly clinking together, and it was approaching them from the way that they came. In the darkness appeared a light. As it approached they could tell it was multiple lights of different colors that seemed to be suspended off the ground in a horizontal line.

Slowly the lights approached, until they illuminated a little girl. They realized that the lights were some kind of wings coming from her back. She was blonde and was wearing a white bonnet. With her innocent looking face and hat she reminded them of Remilia. She was wearing a red skirt and shirt, with white sleeves and collar, and a yellow cloth tied around her neck. If it wasn't the ominous circumstances she would been cute.

"S-sorry" Rin started "We kind of got lost and--"

"Are you here to play with me?" The girl interrupted quizzically.

They noticed that she had a headless teddy bear in her hand.

"Oh...I see... you're humans"

The girl cocked her head to the side, and her mouth spread into a wide and wicked smile that bared her sharp fangs. Her red eyes shone in the dark, with catlike black pupils. Dropping the bear, her nails grew into red claws. She stepped forward. Pointing to Rin she said in her little girl voice.

"You...you smell good. It's been a while since I've eaten"

Rin stepped back. The boy leaped in front of her.

"Don't touch her!" He yelled. This was the girl he would marry and he wouldn't let this youkai touch her.

With the afterimage of her wings trailing in the dark she rushed forward, slashing the boy and sending him flying into the wall where he lay unconscious. Shin and Megume had fallen backwards, frozen in fear. The girl stood over Rin.

"Don't go getting in the way of my mean when I'm so hungry." Her voice had become more monstrous. To Rin her mouth appeared to be a gaping black hole. Her eyes were evil red jewels belonging to a ravenous monster.

"W-wait--" Rin began, but the girl did not listen.

In one movement the girl slashed at Rin's throat with her claws, and her head rolled away from her body. Megume's scream echoed off the stone walls. But the girl paid no head. In the dim light of her wings, she tore flesh and broke bone, loudly slurping up the blood and viscera, and chewing chunks of flesh. Shin and Megume crawled to where the boy lay, but with her blocking the path, and with their legs not willing to move, the could only only watch the grisly scene. Megume sobbed and Shin held her, too terrified to make a sound himself.

Eventually the girl stood up, satiated from her feast.

"That was filling... I think that I'll you all now, since I get so bored down here."

Raising her hand, she pointed it at them huddling against the wall.

"Fools!"

The girl jumped back as several silver knives cut the air where she just was.

"Tch! Always getting in the way of my fun Sakuya!"

"Hong! keep her busy until Lady Remilia comes"

The girl and Hong engaged in a running battle down the hall.

"I told you not to leave the the guest wing!"

Patchouli, unseen further down, restored the crystal lights. Even Sakuya gasped at the scene. Rin's remains spread over the stone floor of the hall. They didn't resemble a human, but a torn and bloody mess. Further down the hall explosions shook the ceiling. Seeing the remains of her friend, Megume's shrill screams etched themselves into the very walls.

In the present time:

"So that's what happened. It happened shortly before the Scarlet Mist Incident. Now most humans know about the Scarlet Devil Mansion, and even about Remilia and her sister Flandre. Today humans even visit occasionally. Flandre hasn't escaped in a long time, since they are much more cautious now. The fact that one of the first humans to visit the Mansion in ages was killed by her is mostly forgotten about. I'm sure if people knew about it, no human would set foot near the place."

Aya finishes her story. She really has a long winded way of talking. Still, you hope to never meet this Flandre. She sounds even more vicious and powerful than Rumia. Kogasa looks horrified.

"S-scary. I'd never do something like that."

You ponder what you were just told. You look out at the man still standing in the street, now smoking a cigarette. Though you still think he's a scumbag, part of you can empathize with him. If someone hurt Kogasa you don't know what you would do. Without really thinking, you wrap her into a hug.

"H-huh? what's this for"

Outside in the street, the man drags his cigarette and watches Shin and Megume's son hug the youkai. His chest burns. To this day, the pain from where Flandre wounded him has never faded. He is lost in thought

"When I came to I was back in the human village. At first I was confused, but then I began to remember. I screamed out "Where's Rin! Where's Rin!" That maid came in. I guess she felt responsible, having been in charge of watching over us guests and Flandre. I learned that she had been confined to that basement for 500 years, and though she had gotten into the hall before, that was the only time humans had had the misfortune of running into her. I barely heard any of it. I was just numb.

After a while I talked to Shin and Megume again. I could tell they were messed up from what happened, especially Megume. Though we tried to stay friends, I guess it was too painful for them. Even still, they kept being friendly with Youkai. They said that if they didn't continue Rin's dream her death would have been for nothing. But what a bunch of shit. If Rin hadn't been so stupid she would still be alive. Even if they are outwardly friendly, all youkai and non-humans have the same beast within them. I won't be fooled. I've seen it often enough. I tried to tell those two, but they didn't listen.

I became a youkai hunter and they friends of youkai, so we couldn't possible have stayed friends. I watched them get over it, and live happily, even having a son. Having the future that was stolen from me. I started drinking, cause I couldn't forget.

Eventually then went and got ripped apart by a youkai, same as Rin. Idiots. They didn't deserve their happy life, for all their stupidity after seeing what happened to Rin. That's why one night after getting drunk I torched their old house. Call it cathartic. I can't stand to see that kid of theirs. He reminds me of them, and of Rin's own stupidity. I can't forgive that. If only we had never gone to that mansion..."

The cigarette having been smoked to the butt, the man flicked it into the dirt.

"One day that kid'll see, and he'll end up just like them"

Drinking from a flask in his pocket, the man turned and walked down the road.

Kogasa saw a certain gloomy witch and her devil servant with wings on her head from the bushes. Grinning to herself, she saw a good opportunity to practice her Terrifying Surprise Killing Technique (which she was devising to use on humans). Though Patchouli wasn't exactly a normal human, Kogasa thought her shut-in personality would work in her favor.

"Aaah Kaokuma It's sooo hot. Why do we have to come all the way out here." The witch moaned as she walked (but it was really more of a stagger).

She was supporting herself on a staff, while her servant walked leisurely beside her. It would have been poor form for the servant to walk in front of the master.

"Don't worry master. We are almost there."

"Damn that Sakuya, sending all the way out here just for one lousy ingredient. The sun...it hurts. At this rate I'm going to get a sunburn."

As if she just answered her own concern, she stopped for a moment, chanted something, and a small storm cloud appeared over her head to shade her.

"fufufu now you look even more depressed than usual master"

Patchouli only grumbled. Up ahead Kogasa had been waiting in ambush. She was crouched behind a tree and holding her closed umbrella as if it were a weapon. As Patchouli and Kaokuma approached Kogasa jumped out.

"Bero bero BA!!"

She cried out, unfurling her umbrella in the same moment, which licked Patchouli's whole face and left it dripping.

"Ah! w-what the hell!" Parchouli staggered backwards. "T-this is why I hate leaving the library! You damn useless umbrella...I told you the last time, you aren't scary and your surprises are--" Patchouli had gotten worked up and need to pause to cough. " --mere annoyances!" Her face twitched as she wiped the saliva off her face. "Kaokuma! Use you devil powers on her!" She pointed at Kogasa melodramatically.

Koakuma had up until now been stifling a laugh with her hand, but she openly let out a giggle and her wings waved up and down. "ufufufu no way Master! I couldn't hurt such a cutie."

"Useless..."

Patchouli caused her storm cloud to move over Kogasa's head, which began emitting a miniature typhoon. But Kogasa merely blocked it with her umbrella and stuck out her tongue.

"Beeeeh!"

Patchouli's forehead vain was visibly varicosed.

"You damn brat..."

Suddenly with a great crack and flash lightning struck Kogasa's umbrella. It's pupil rolled up and its tongue hung limp. It might have even been smoking.

"Ow! Now you've done it, you shut in witch! NEET! Fatty!"

"I'll have you know I spend each day doing intensive magical resear-- Fatty?! Who are you calling a fatty?? At least i'm not a little washboard like you!"

"If my boobs came from eating junkfood I wouldn't want em!"

"My, my" Kaokuma was still holding back her laugher.

Kogasa had taken several steps forward and rolled her sleeves up. Yet, standing directly in front of the taller Patchouli she became visibly flustered at the confrontation.

"Y-you smelly witch. W-when was the last time you took a shower."

"Oh look, the tiny-tits umbrella girl is scared of the great Patchouli. This is why you'll never surprise anyone."

"S-shut up! If I was built like you I could just sit on them and the smell alone would kill them!"

"I told you I'm not fat! This is just my body type!"

"Fatty!"

"Washboard!"

"P-p-pigchouli!"

"N-now you've gone to far!"

Taking a step back, Patchouli began chanting a spell, but because getting so worked up had aggravated her asthma she ran out of breath. Seizing the opportunity, Kogasa grabbed Patchouli's sleeve, and with strong muscles from blacksmithing, dropped her body and used Patchouli's greater weight to slam her into the ground with far more force than might have been expected from the smaller youkai. Patchouli was out cold.

"M-master??" Koakuma shook her shoulders, looking a little concerned now.

"Hmph. Serves you right for saying i'm not scary."

Picking up her umbrella, and turning around she walked away.

"T-they're not even that small..."

After a time Patchouli woke up

"Uwaaa~ Koakumaaa" She was crying. "My body hurts..."
Kaokuma easily picked up Patchouli's limp form, who moaned the whole time, and put her over her shoulder

"There, there master"

"Kaokuma...I'm not fat am I?

"Well..."

And as if all the life came back into her Patchouli shouted, pounding on Koakuma's back, "You shitty servant! Insolent devil! When we get back i'm gonna banish you!"

She yelled until she was out breath, and by the time they got back she was fast asleep. Coming to check on her, Sakuya and Hong heard her say while sleeping "I'm not fat...stupid...tiny tits...useless...umbrella"

Ok now is the time for the Kanako ones

Hey Anon who's writing Kogasa stories, they're really cute! I wanted to write my own little tale based on your stories with my favorite 2hu, I hope you'll like it!

=

Kogasa twirled her umbrella, enjoying all the gorgeous warmly colored leaves falling around her. The pathway up the Youkai Mountain may have been long, but the autumnal trees around and above her made it so much more worthwhile to travel than simply taking the ropeway.

And worthwhile the trip was sure to be! Kogasa gripped the vouchers in her left hand tightly. Sanae was such a great friend, and had managed to secure her a special one-on-one meeting with THE Yasaka Kanako, goddess of the mountain! And for only 12 easy donations plus faith, it was a steal of a deal! The cheery umbrella had already memorized all of the things she would ask the goddess about, all the blessings she would hope for! Oh, wait until her husband heard about this!

Finally, Kogasa's long trek met its end, at the summit of the mountain. Sanae had seen her approach and rushed over to greet her guest, offering her some respite, a quick bath, and a meal. After some quick rest and recuperation, and ensuring her umbrella looked its absolute best, Kogasa was finally brought into a grand imperial room within the shrine.

There the purple haired goddess sat... floated. Her eyes were closed, but opened as Kogasa approached and sat before her. "Ah, so you're Sanae's young friend, aren't you? Welcome." Her voice was deep and powerful, yet it spoke with an air of casualness to it. It made Kogasa feel welcome, even before such a powerful presence. "There will be much more time later tonight and tomorrow for pleasantries, so let's skip to business, shall we? What are the things that trouble you, that only a god may assist you with? Are you seeking ways to become more powerful? Curses for your enemies? Or perhaps, you se-"

"Oh, it's nothing like that Miss Lady Kanako!" Kogasa spoke up, feeling so comfortable in this casual god's presence that she could interrupt her. Thankfully, that feeling was right, Kanako was easygoing with that stuff. "You see, I had actually came to seek some relationship advice from you!"

"A-Ah, relationship advice?" A touch of nervousness seemed to coat Kanako's voice now, but the umbrella failed to pick up on it. Well, she couldn't turn away the youkai now, especially in this season where worshipers were so hard to come by. "Well, there are no realms where a god's insight cannot help..."

"Wonderful, thank you ma'am!" Kanako cringed hearing 'ma'am'.

"S-so, you're looking to have advice on how to win over the heart of a man?"

"Oh no, I already have a husband." What. This umbrella had a husband already? ... An umbrella could get a husband before her? "You see, what I was wanting to know is, you see, you know how boys can act really touchy and clingy when they're alone with you?" No, she didn't. "Well you see, my husband, he's really cute! You see, well, I like to surprise him, but lately he did something that surprised me! He appeared behind me one time and swept me off of my feet, and he leaned close! But instead of kissing me even though he was so close, he gave me flowers!" Kanako grew red. That sounded so lovely, like out of a cheap romance book she had read. She wanted something like that.

"Well, it was super nice and apparently he had been prepping to do that for a while! So I want to try something similar to surprise him! But, romantically you know? But I was wondering, do you think boy's like girls that are straightforward like that? Is it OK to be pushy and surprisey with that kind of romance stuff?" Kanako had absolutely 0 idea, and could only stutter. Kogasa didn't even seem to register the non-response. "Well, I was thinking that maybe I could use some chocolate..."

...

Sanae and Suwako gazed into the room from a hidden one near the back. "I never have seen Lady Kanako turn so red."

"Yeah, she does that when this topic comes up."

"I think I'll raise my bet, she'll go through 10 bottles of sake, if this one tale from Kogasa can fluster her so much.."

"10?"

"Yeah, I know this youkai has plenty more romantic tales to spill to Kanako."

"Now you're making me nervous I bet too low. ... I wonder what an umbrella who's so happy and blessed already needs from a goddess anyways?"

"Donations and faith are donations and faith. Though maybe deep down she's just interested in bragging about her husband?"

"Bragging to a god? Oooh, what a scary youkai~"

"Come on Lady Kanako, she's expecting us by now."

"Geeeeeh..."

"None of that, you of all people should know that these important moments in a person's life are when they'll be capable of giving the most faith, and will impact how they give faith in the future, you should be excited at this prospect."

Kanako said nothing, as she flew beside Sanae, the young girl leading her through the sky to their destination. Sanae was right, the umbrella they were heading towards was a fantastic source of faith, and if all went well there would be no doubt she'd continue to give them faith for years to come, but still... Constantly hearing about married life, the joys of romance, having a loving husband to cuddle and return to every night, or... other things that made Kanako blush at the thought of. Things she had always dreamed of, desired, but never had.

It was funny, Kanako was always seen as this calm, collected, and cunning god, but somehow this weak youkai managed to make her seize up every time.

"Ah, we're here!" A small building came into view, along the outskirts of the human village. It was quaint, cute even, with a shop attached to it. No doubt a wonderful place to have a family and raise a child in...

"Alright Lady Kanako," Sanae said as the two landed. "I'll wait outside, you head in there and give it your best!" She beamed, giving a fantastic saleswoman smile, no doubt one she had given to plenty of the Moriya faithful before. Kanako begrudgingly nodded, and headed inside the cozy abode.

"Hello, anyone home? Is now a good time?" Kanako called into the house as she entered, hoping for silence. Instead, she heard a voice beckoning her into another room. As Kanako headed in, she took a quick examination of the home's decorations, sepia photographs on the wall of Kogasa and her husband, admittedly very fine-crafted metalwork with umbrellas adorning the sides, it felt like the epitome of a young couple's household. Moriya shrine was her irreplaceable home with Sanae and Suwako, but she had always wondered what it'd be like there if she had...

Kanako entered a bedroom, the lighting warm from a mechanical lamp. There laid Kogasa in bed, late into her pregnancy, with her husband by her side holding her arm. Kanako had never asked why he had a mechanical arm, but it looked highly sophisticated. Well, it was a story for another time. "Come in Miss Lady Kanako, come in! It's wonderful to see you again ma'am!" Despite being pregnant and bed-bound for most of the day, the tone in her voice was just as young and upbeat as it had always been. The blue-haired youkai turned to her husband. "You gotta head out now, prayers between someone and their goddess need to be one-on-one, just like wishes!" That wasn't necessarily true, but Kanako didn't object. It was already awkward enough dealing with just the wife. Kogasa's husband chuckled as he bowed to Kanako, and took his leave, heading to the kitchen to prepare food.

"So, how are things going with you this time, all well?" Kanako asked, putting on her best smile. "No doubt you're excited this pregnancy is nearing it's end, correct?"

"Of course, I'll be excited to be able to get back up and walking again, haha! You have no idea how hard it is to keep trying to surprise my husband like this, but Kogasa is resourceful!" Kogasa's smile as wide as she recalled all the times she had to shake her husband awake from sleep to surprise him. It was a bit cheap, but it worked. "And the blessings you've given me for a smooth pregnancy feel like they've been working wonderfully, I can't thank you enough for them!"

Kanako smiled. In truth, these blessings were ones she had never given out before, and were far out of her area of expertise. It took a lot of practice and prep to give them out, and she was overall proud of the result. "I'm sure you're ready for a blessing for a smooth delivery soon as well?"

"Ah, of course! But first, I wanted to ask you something!" Kanako cringed, bracing full well for another one of Kogasa's long winded stories about her and her husband's lovey-dovey tales.

Instead, the umbrella leaned to her side, and pulled out a small purple box. "... Eh?"

"Well, come on over! It's for you!"

Kanako walked closer to the side of Kogasa's bed, where she was handed the box. An offering? Sanae was supposed to handle collecting these types of donations... As Kanako opened it though, she saw inside a fascinating piece of jewelry. A silver necklace, composed of snakes interconnected with one another. The craftsmanship seemed unmatched, as the eyes of scales of each snake was detailed. "Kogasa, what is this for?"

"It's an offering! Or a gift! Or a bribe! I'm not really sure which would be the right word... But I made it before I had to stop blacksmithing for a while! I think it came out really well, I hope you like it!" Kanako held it up, letting it shimmer in the light. This wasn't the first time she had received something so well crafted, many times in the past she had been given such things. But they were always formal, part of a scheduled offering, on behalf of a village. Never had someone made something like this out of their own volition. "I'm a youkai that isn't really... 'born', so I never had a mother, father, or anything like that. So a lot of this is entirely new to me. You, and the whole of the Moriya shrine really, have been so wonderful to us, and it's really been great talking with you, getting your advice, and receiving your blessings! I can't thank you enough, and the scheduled donation plan Sanae put us on didn't feel special enough, so I wanted to make something extra to show how thankful I am!" Kanako was a tad flabbergasted. Advice? Kogasa dominated most of their conversations, Kanako could barely manage to say anything on most of the topics, mainly due to inexperience. Suwako probably gave more practical advice to her on childcare. Maybe... Just being able to gush about her husband and her life was enough?

"... It's extremely lovely Kogasa. It'll no doubt be a highly prized addition to the Moriya treasury... Thank you."

"I'm glad! Though, I wanted to give it to you before hand, before I asked you my question, you see..." Kogasa was a tad nervous, as she took a moment. "Would you be willing to be my child's godmother?"

"... What?"

"The godmother! I read in a story long ago, every child needs a godmother! You're always so reliable, and cool and smart, I can't think of a better candidate! So would you be willing to be the godmother?"

... Godmothers were an entirely western concept, and from that... Christianity religion. Kanako couldn't actually be a godmother. Unless, maybe Kogasa meant in a more, secular interpretation? Just someone to help care for and raise the child, watch over and protect them?

Kanako's face turned a familiar red, but instead of one caused by embarrassment, she instead had a smile. The idea of it, of helping care for the child, to be an important person in their life filled her with an incredible sense a joy. One she hadn't felt since the day she saw Sanae, and Sanae saw her. "YES!" She accidentally shouted. "Y-Yes! I'll do it! I'll be happy to do it! It sounds fantastic!"

Kogasa's smile grew wide, relief arriving. "I'm so happy to hear that!"

The wind goddess leaned by Kogasa's bedside, a fire ignited within her eyes. "Tatara Kogasa, you have my word that your child will have the full unending support of the entire Moriya shrine! They'll have access to the best mentors, goddesses themselves! They'll get to enjoy learning all of the ins and outs of management, blessings whenever they need it, why, we can even..."

Sun had long set, the discussion between god and youkai lasted much longer than their usual meetings had, with Kanako for once leading things. Sanae was shocked to see Kanako so passionate and fired up. This was the goddess everyone knew, the one constantly planning conspiracies and working hard to bring them to fruition. This was entirely unlike how she usually was after a meeting with Kogasa. Kanako was eager to tell Sanae all of her plans and ideas on the flight back, and to prepare the sake. There would be plenty of drinking tonight, but for celebratory reasons instead of self-pity ones.

---

You, Kogasa's husband entered back to the bedroom, Kogasa looked tuckered out from her long talk, but happy and enthusiastic. You heard most of their discussion from the kitchen. "Hey, that was an incredibly nice thing you did for her." You could tell... well, everyone but your wife could tell how awkward these meetings made the old virgin goddess feel. It was touching to see Kogasa do something like that, though not surprising. You always knew this umbrella had a huge heart.

"I'm just so happy she was willing to become the godmother! Otherwise we'd have to ask Suwako!"

"What?"

"And if Kanako said no, Suwako would probably also say no. Then we'd have to try maybe those autumn goddesses..."

"Kogasa what are you talking about?"

"Godmother candidates of course! There's only so many gods in Gensokyo that walk around after all."

"..." You took a deep breath. Kogasa was far from dumb, but she could be a bit naive at times. "Kogasa... A godmother isn't a literal god."

"... Eh?"

"You said she was around here right Aya?" Kogasa wandered through the sunflower field, careful to walk within the paths of dirt. She couldn't see Aya now, she was well too deep within the field. And Aya insisted on giving her a walkie-talkie to communicate instead of just joining her, she wasn't sure why.

"Yeah, trust me, she's there alright!" "Aya said from a safe and comfortable distance away, high in the sky, into her walkie-talkie. Aya wasn't going to take any risks here. Kogasa was a nice acquaintance, but Aya's passion for hard-hitting journalism (literally and figuratively) had to come first. That's how it was in this industry. If Kogasa was in her field, she'd understand.

Kogasa was told by Aya in casual conversation that there was a super powerful and master of fear youkai in this part, an area of Gensokyo Kogasa had barely been to before. She had heard murmurs of the youkai that lives around here, but never knew anything beyond that. Aya mentioned she carried a parasol, and Kogasa's eye's lit up.

"Oh! Do you think that youkai likes umbrellas?!"

"I mean, maybe? But I wo-..." Aya suddenly had a strange expression, which turned into a wide smile. Kogasa assumed this was due to thinking of umbrellas, she was glad this journalist was a fellow umbrella enthusiast! "Actually, yeah, I think she does! She's a big umbrella fan, and takes super good care of them!"

"Aaaah! That's so cool! There should be more of us!"

"Yeah, and she's scary too! The humans are terrified of her!"

"Really? What does she do?"

"Stuff soooo scary that even the Yama would be scared to send her to hell! They say the shrine maiden has struggled to exterminate her several times! And they say this youkai even genocided an entire area just for fun!"

"Wow that is scary!"

"But, I bet if you talked to her and told her you were an umbrella, she would be ecstatic to hear that! I'm sure she'd love to give you all kinds of pointers about being scary, and umbrellas, and all that!"

Kogasa's eyes lit up. It was that conversation from her trusted friend that made her realize she just HAD to meet this youkai! No question about it!

Finally, after what felt like an hour, Kogasa heard footsteps a bit in front of her. Rumbling! This was it! Kogasa headed into some of the denser sunflowers to hide. Aya had told her before this youkai would respect her trying to scare her, and Kogasa wanted a great first impression!

Aya looked through her binoculars and saw Kogasa jumping into the sunflowers. Oh, this must be it! She was getting ready to surprise her! Aya fumbled a bit, grabbing her long-distance camera. Her it comes, the first page story! She raised her camera, and...

"Bero bero ba!"

Kogasa lowered her umbrella after shouting her signature catchphrase to see what appeared to be a mature woman, green hair flowing in the wind. Her eyes were closed and her smile was serene. She did have an immaculate parasol with her, but this lady seemed far from the scary monster Kogasa had imagined. This woman also seemed completely unphased by Kogasa's incredible scare surprise.

"Oh, I'm sorry miss. I was expecting someone else."

"You were expecting another person?" Her voice was elegant, adding to her charm. "My, I hadn't expected this area to become so popular today."

"I was actually looking for this really scary youkai! Have you seen any here?"

"Scary youkai huh?" The lady paused, and placed a finger to her chin thinking. Anyone else might've picked up on the woman's playful tone and exaggerated expressions, but Kogasa was not anyone else. "I'm afraid I haven't seen any scary ones around here. There's only me and you here, and the flowers around us." She motioned to the tall sunflowers surrounding the two. "I suppose I might have missed them, it is very crowded here with all us people, no?"

"Huh, maybe so." Kogasa accepted, disappointment in her voice. "That's a shame, maybe they're already gone? Oh well..." She then perked right back up. "Still, it's nice to meet you ma'am! You take great care of your parasol, don'tcha?"

The green haired lady opened her eyes, a bit puzzled at first. "Oh, this old thing?" She gave it a light twirl. "Yes, I suppose I've had it for... Many many years now. It's like a special flower to me, graceful and unending... Speaking of care, I'm impressed you were considerate enough to take care when you jumped into the flowers?"

"Eh? Whatcha mean?"

The woman motioned over to where Kogasa had been earlier. Amidst the sunflowers were smaller flowers, and indents in the dirt where her sandals had been. "A fairy wouldn't have been so careful playing. They would've stepped on these poor souls. Flowers like these small ones here aren't fragile, but still... I can appreciate you being so considerate. If you hadn't been, perhaps our meeting would've been different."

"Ah, thanks! I try to avoid stepping on stuff like that!" The thinly veiled threat completely flew over Kogasa's head. "I'm an umbrella, a karakasa obake! We're good at watching out for what's beneath us, and protecting it! Plus, flowers help brighten up the rainy days we're made for!" The green haired woman seemed quite pleased with that comment. "Speaking of that," Kogasa put on her thinking cap. "... I can sense you're a youkai too, but... What are you miss?"

"Me?" The woman chuckled. "Cute little Yuuka is just cute little Yuuka..."

"Oh, OK!" This answer was acceptable too Kogasa. "It's still very nice to meet you!"

"Likewise. Say, I'm sure you're disappointed in not meeting your scary youkai, but my house is just a bit in that direction, would you care to have some tea with me? It isn't often I entertain visitors."

Kogasa's stomach rumbled at the thought. "I'd love that, thanks miss!"

"Run ahead dear, I'll meet you there, I have some trash I need to tend to first."

...

Aya looked through her camera lens, a bit disappointed in seeing Kogasa begin to run away from Yuuka. "Eeeeh, that was it? She's just giving her a warning or something? I can't use this, what a waste of an afterno-" Yuuka Kazami looked directly straight in Aya's direction. Despite being so far away, high in the sky, should've barely been visible, Yuuka made eye contact with her. "AHHH FUCK FUCK FUCK" Aya dropped her camera and panicked, she needed to get out of there and fast, she prepped to dart of, when she felt something grab her wings, pinning them together.

...

"And then after that she let me take home a few flower seeds to grow at home! They were ones she said reminded her of me!"

"That's nice Kogasa."

"It was really great, I had a happy day I'll remember forever!"

"That's real sweet Kogasa."

"So anyways Aya," Kogasa looked at the medical charts, pretending to know what they meant. Aya laid in bed within her full body cast. "Dr. Eirin says it's impressive. Apparently the bones that were broken are all ones that are extremely painful to break, some of the worst ones on the pain scale. What are the odds of that?"

"Yup, odds Kogasa."

"Well, try to be more careful flying next time Aya, I don't want you getting hurt worse!" Kogasa then leaned into a bag. "Oh, and before I forget! Miss Yuuka is really nice, she wanted me to give you this as a get-well gift." Kogasa placed a small potted sunflower on a table, making sure it was within view since Aya couldn't turn her neck too much. "Get well soon Aya!"

Truly, no group in Gensokyo had it worse than the honest journalists.

Kogasa chuckled sinisterly (or, as sinisterly as someone like her could chuckle). She had devised an extremely new, advanced, complicated, extravagant, and elaborate surprise method, that she was more than excited to try out. She held no doubt that whatever unfortunate soul crossed this path would have the fright of their life! "Fufufu, the great Kogasa hopes she doesn't scare them to death with this!" Oh, whoever the poor soul was unfortunate enough to experience this technique was sure to go back and tell others, and spread the great fearsome legend of Kogasa. Today she would become a legendary youkai!

Kogasa lowered herself in the bushes. Here came two victims now. Two people in fact, a twin-braided girl, accompanied by a girl with short pink hair, and some... strange floating badge or something? Oh well, Kogasa didn't need to get today's fashion. "Now then, prepare to be shocked eternally!" She thought, and braced herself...!

The two girls continued on their path, before, the pink one stopped her companion. "Careful Orin. There's someone in the bushes."

E-eh! Kogasa was surprised herself. How was her infallible disguise foiled? Her hiding place was perfect! Well, there was still-

"Also watch out, there are decoys intended to frighten us set to a trap over there."

Ah? Ah? Ahhh! How did they know of her decoys!? They were going to deliver the second scare! Well, there was still hope for-

"Look out for the pitfall trap in front of us too Orin."

No! No! That's not fair! Her perfect plan was crumbling, but how? She had put so much effort into it! It was going to be her grand master youkai scare tactic plan! She even rated it a 5 scare plan herself! Maybe she could still salvage this by-

"Listen, I can read your mind and predict anything you'll do next. There's no hope in surprising me, so you might as well just come out now, alright?"

...

"...BEROBEROBA" Kogasa made a hail-mary attempt, and jumped out as quick as she could, licking the mean pink-haired girl with her umbrella.

"La-Lady Satori!!!" The feline girl cried.

"ACK-Really? I tell you you won't surprise me and you try to anyways? That defeats the whole point!"

Kogasa pouted to her. "It's not fair, I put so much effort in this scare plan and you cheated! How am I supposed to surprise you if you read minds miss?!"

"For your information," Satori wiped her face of the umbrella's saliva with a cloth her assistant thankfully had on her. "Your attempt to surprise us wasn't foiled by my mind-reading. First of all, that 'bush' your hiding behind is just a cheap wooden sign with green paint. And your purple umbrella still sticks out from behind it. Why even make a fake bush when there are plenty of bushes further down the road?"

"I had already dug the pitfall trap, and I realized I dug it too far away." Kogasa admitted. In her defense, she thought she did a good job painting a bush.

"Yes, and the pitfall trap." Satori walked up to it. "You do realize a pitfall trap needs to be covered right? Otherwise, it's little more than a hole. No one would run over one."

"W-well when the decoys frightened them after I frightened them, they would be so panicked they would!" Kogasa defended.

"Are these supposed to be the decoys?" The cat girl asked, pointing to three watermelons hanging from trees, with white napkins stapled to them. "How is fruit a decoy?"

"Th-They're supposed to be floating ghost heads! Realistic blood and all!" Kogasa had asked Seiga if she could borrow real ones but was turned, so she had to make due. She thought these looked realistic and bloody enough. Tears formed in her eyes as she looked down to her feet. "I-I worked really hard on this surprise, it was supposed to be petrifyingly scary! You're telling me it wasn't scary in the slightest?"

Satori looked down at the umbrella girl and began to feel a bit bad. Satori youkai already had a poor reputation up here, and this probably wasn't helping. She was supposed to be up here working on a case anyways, not making young girls cry. "Nope, not sca-" Her cat assistant began, before Satori interrupted her.

"Alright, I'll admit it; your trick didn't work because I cheated." Kogasa looked up. "If I wasn't a mind reader, you would've scared us really bad." Kogasa perked up, and wiped her eyes with her sleeve.

"O-Of course, I knew it! This plan was too scary to not work, only a cheater would be able to see through it!" Satori wasn't keen on being called a cheater, but it was better than most of the alternatives. And she supposed it was a bit true.

"Just, make sure to cover up your pitfall trap properly for the next person. That really won't work if it isn't covered."

"Alright, you got it miss..."

"Komeiji Satori!"

"Miss Komeiji Satori! As thanks for your constructive criticism, the great Kogasa will spare scaring you in the future."

"That would be appreciated, my heart is too weak to handle being scared." Satori waved goodbye as she continued down the path, the umbrella girl having rapidly changed her emotion from verge of crying to beaming with pride. "Come along now Orin, we've still got places to investigate."

"O-Of course Lady Satori!" Orin gave a small introduction to Kogasa before rushing over to join her master. "... These surface youkai are a bit strange aren't they?"

Satori smiled as she continued down the path. "Yes, but we need to try and be considerate. I've been told I'm a bit too cold anyways, so hopefully we can build some good karma with this good de-GAAAH"

Orin and Satori stumbled as they fell down into a deep hole. "Wh-What!?"

"Aaah, sorry!" A voice shouted from above. "That was my practice pitfall trap, I forgot I made that! I'll get you out!"

"WHY WOULD YOU HAVE YOUR PRACTICE ONE COVERED BUT NOT YOUR MAIN ONE?!"

I hope you like this Anon. I'm not really experienced with Satori stuff, so I didn't want to risk anything too big, I hope I did justice for her! Hopefully another anon might try something more ambitious with the two.

Bad ending cont

You awake to the sound of a soft current of running water alongside the incessant creak of an old rowboat. Trying to get a sense of your bearings, you try to prop yourself up with your.. arms? Feeling as if something was off, you attempt to stand up but realize it was also a physical impossibility. Looking down, not only do you notice that your limbs were missing, but rather, your entire body was missing. Suddenly, something appears in your peripheral vision, a wisp of some kind. You follow it with your gaze until the ball of light nestles itself besides a figure leaning against the rowboat. You turn your gaze upwards and make eye contact with a rather seemingly listless and tired-looking girl in a blue dress with red-pigtails. A large scythe rested on her shoulders, locked into place with her arms hooked around opposite sides of the pole.

“So you’re the guy I’ve been hearin’ about, huh? Word spreads quickly whenever that miko is hellbent on solving an incident. Didn’t think she’d actually kill a... well nevermind.”

You remained fixed in your position, befuddled. But after briefly gathering your thoughts and unclouding your memory, you soon come to the realization that you are in fact, dead.

“W-Wait, so then you’re a shiniga-“

The woman abruptly cuts you off.

“Yeah, yeah. Let’s just get this over with.”

She drops the blade end of the scythe into the sand, balancing the opposite end with her right palm while reaching out towards your direction with her left palm.

“Pay up.”

“How was I supposed to know to bring a coin purse with me after I die?! And besides, I’m flat broke anyway!”

She lets out a begrudging sigh and steps towards you.

“Not physical money. It’s money that manifests through the bonds you made with others during your life. A representation of the hospitality and respect earned from every single person that cared about you.”

She reaches inside your corporeal form and pulls out a small clump of yen, before overturning and opening her fist to check the contents.

“And.. how sad. Well, I guess this will suffice. Not like I can go turning away every spirit. And ‘sides, Miss Yama said she’d like to have a special word with you. Not every day you get this kind of opportunity, for better or for worse.”

You immediately tense up, acknowledging the past atrocity and grave sin you had committed. Staring blankly off in the distance, your eyes trail along the currents of the Sanzu River towards the distance where you can make out the blossoms of a red flower of some kind.

“Well..? We haven’t got all day.”

The shinigami was already impatiently standing in the boat, her head tilted back towards you.

“S-Sorry.”

You hover over and settle onto one of the seats as she begins to ferry down the river.

Crossing through the thickets and foliage, you arrive at a massive clearing at the end of the river. The field ahead of you stretches into the distance, adorned with countless amount of red flowers as far as the eye can see. A gentle warmth envelopes you as the shinigami docks her boat against the shore.

“And.. we’ve arrived. Just past this initial field and a bit over there in the distance, you’ll find her.”

You get off and spend some time staring off into the distance before looking back. The shinigami was already rowing away in the distance, leaving you stranded here. Turning forwards again, you float through the seemingly endless expanse of red flowers. It felt strangely relaxing, comforting even. Yet, a slight sense of building dread began to pile up every second. The ominous feeling only grew with every step you took.

In the horizon, the image of a large, imposing throne came into view. It had an intricate, golden and ornate looking design which rose off many meters off the ground. The sheer size of this structure made you seem like a mere dwarf in comparison. And atop this seat was presumably the Yama herself. You gradually come to a stop when she takes notice of you and shifts in her seat to acknowledge your presence.

“Halt. Step no further.”

Her voice boomed through the air, sending ripples that made the neighboring flowers gently sway against the vibrations. You trembled before her presence, looking up, you were fully aware of your own current powerlessness. Suddenly, she pointed what seemed to be a wooden rod down directly towards you.

“Wrath. Malice. Hatred. Evil. Such traits I had observed long before you had arrived here, human. It has already been long decreed that due to this transgressions that it is judged your sins shall drag your very essence to the bowels of hell.”

You remained still, utterly speechless and frozen in a pathetic mix of fear and anguish as she continued her speech.

“However, I will allow this. A chance of redemption from this grave sin you have committed. You will be forgiven by accomplishing this one last good deed.”

The Yama reaches out her empty hand and a mirror slowly materializes in her palm. She releases her grip, the mirror slowly floating down until it is directly in front of you.

“Make amends with her. The youkai you have wronged, for her soul writhes in billowing despair because of the evil you’ve inflicted upon her. You have but only one single chance.”

Then suddenly the mirror shines brilliantly, enveloping your vision with an intense white light. You try to avert your gaze from the blinding radiance and shut your eyes tight. But when you open your eyes, you find yourself standing in a blank, gray space. You take notice of the fact that your body has returned but the a seemingly endless void is now surrounding you.

However, in the distance, you can see someone. It was someone all too familiar.

>> No.37384837

>>37384833
The blue dress. The blue skirt. The wooden sandals.

You take a step forward.

She sat upright on the ground, hugging her knees. Her face was buried into her lap, crying.

You begin walking.

A broken, purple umbrella was laid out before her, snapped in half.

You began running.

The void stretched out, altering the distance between you and the youkai in an otherwise impossible fashion when you attempt to approach her in vain. Her figure always seemed to loom in the distance, unattainable and unreachable. You try calling out to her desperately but it seemed as if she was unable to hear. Or perhaps your pleas were simply being ignored.

Then reflections and images of that dreadful scene covered the expanse of the void. Revealing every horrific moment that you had inflicted upon this harmless youkai. The abuse, torment, pain, and suffering all stared back at you. The consequences of your actions also reflected back. The endless rainfall that had plagued the village, the suffering that your fellow humans had to go through, their collective pain and agony pierced directly into the core of your being, your very soul. And suddenly, there was a surge of sharp pain. A pain that made you let out a scream of agony. Needles begin manifesting and strike your body several times over. The cold stare of the miko had occupied every empty space of the void, with every inch of space reflecting her hatred. You raise your arms in panic and agony before several more needles pierce through your forearm. In the intense pain sends your arms into shock and go numb, causing them to drop to your sides. One last needle barrels through the air. Helpless to evade with your crippled body, time seems to slow to a crawl. The needle was directly in your line of sight. And yet you lacked the capacity to react before time abruptly resumes and the needle forcibly pierces through your left eye.

You drop to your knees. Blood pours through every wound in your body and pools onto the floor. Collapsing onto the ground in agony, a coat of red has completely overtaken your vision. And you feel a presence standing over you, unmoving and unwavering. Kogasa stood silent, watching your body writhe in pain. And through it all, you manage to gutter out a few words.

“I’m... sorry. Koga.. sa.”

The air grew stagnant. The silence was deafening. The pain however, was incessant. You were in a state of constant torment, unable to die. Yet, your spirit experienced an amount of pain unimaginable to any normal human. Many would cherish the sweet relief of death, but you do not have that luxury. However, you still desperately try to reach out in hopes of being forgiven.

“I’m... sorry..”

You turn your head to the side, trying to glance upwards at her with your remaining eye. Her eyes were empty. Tears streaked down the sides of her face. One of the drops hit your cheek. She just stood. Stood. Silent. Staring. For what seemed like eons, she gazed at you. Was it pity? Was it hate? How long has it been? Days or weeks? Time within this space seemed to blind into an incoherent mess. You just wanted something, anything. Space warped, reality shifted yet stagnated but finally she spoke.

“Too late.”

The walls cracked and shattered. Your body slumped back onto the fields of Higan and the Yama looked down in disappointment.

“It is a shame. And so you have failed.”

You have resigned yourself to your impending fate.

“And so it is judged. I shall sentence you to eternal hell.”

Eiki raised up her Rod of Remorse, then brought it down. A portal opens beneath you as your body is slowly sucked into a dimension filled with unimaginable horror. You clench your weakened fists and close your eye. You are filled with the anxiety of being fated to be trapped within the confines of hell for all eternity. Your body carries with it writhing agony that can never be relieved. You are completely helpless, powerless, and alone. It all culminates to a single point and then..

You see Kogasa’s facing away from you before slowly turning around. She raises her arms and grins mischievously.

“BERO BERO BAA!!!”

You let out one final scream.

“aaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!!”

You fall flat on your butt onto the pavement. Kogasa unhooks herself from the tree branch and spins around in mid-air, landing feet first.

“Aha! How’d you like that scare?!”

She brings up a hand to her face and giggles to herself. You sat there completely dumbfounded.

“W-Wha...”

Kogasa put her hands on her hips and puffed out her chest, looking incredibly proud of herself.

“I learned a trick or two about opening up the human psyche and injecting the spookiest nightmares directly into your brain! And my training finally paid off! I call it... the Karakasa Deluxe!! So? Whaddya think? Pretty good, right?”

Tears well up in your eyes and you double over, hunching over onto the ground. And you bow your head down in defeat.

“H-Hey.. are you okay, human?”

You had stretched your arms, laying back on the grass. The view of Gensokyo was great from here, the peak of Youkai Mountain. You could see most of the major landmarks beneath you. Though perhaps what was most wonderful was the sunset from her, as it slowly began to sink below. It was funny, you had never cared much before to watch the sunset, and but now these days, you felt like you could appreciate these kinds of things more. Maybe it was from that near-death experience with Rumia. Or maybe...

You had made a point to keep from going too low when laying to watch the sun, if you had left the boundaries of the Moriya shrine, you'd be fair game to the tengu. Aya seemed amicable enough, but you doubted she could be representative of all tengu.

"Bero Bero Ba!" A voice shouted, as a face sticking out its tongue appeared upside-down in your vision. Kogasa had returned from her bi-weekly meeting with the goddess of the shrine. She pouted as you smiled, completely unsurprised. She had done this everytime, and you could hear her giggling, you weren't sure what she expected. The youkai sighed, as she gently placed her umbrella in the grass, sitting beside you. She kicked her sandals off, her feet bare in the grass. "So, whatcha thinking about? No one watches a sunset without thinking~" Well, she was right about that. There were several things on your mind. Recently though, you had been considering your past.

Regrets were some of the main things on your mind. You thought a lot more recently about your parents, how little you had formed any meaningful connection with them. You had regrets about how you had treated Kogasa when you had first met her, even if she did forgive you for it a while ago. There were lots of events that had gone through your mind, If you had done things differently, maybe you'd still have your arm. If you had done things differently, maybe you'd still have your family's old house. If you had done things differently...

"Regrets, eh?" Kogasa made a thinking pose, like the dork she was. You had chuckled, even after confessing some of your inner thoughts, this umbrella still seemed to act like herself. "I used to have those. I had lots of those in fact. But I've decided to try and not have those anymore!"

"I used to think all the time about things I could have done, and how I could do things differently. Maybe if I was a more useful umbrella, I wouldn't even be a youkai. Maybe if I was scarier I could be a more powerful. Maybe if I was willing to..." Her face had darkened a bit, you wondered deep down what urges and thoughts a youkai could have. "But, I don't want to think about those things anymore! Because, for the first time in... A time, I'm really happy. And not just, like, happy after eating ice cream. But happy where I don't feel sad every night. Where I don't wake up feeling worthless. Where I actually like who I am. I'm happy now, I have friends now, and I have you now." A hand seemed to grip your's when you hadn't notice.

"And, if I like who I am now, why should I have regrets? If I had done things differently, who knows what could happen? Have you ever heard of that butterfly effect thing? Sanae told me about it, it's where some super tiny thing you do could change the entire world! So maybe, for example, if I didn't fail at scaring a little kid 3 years ago, the world might have exploded or something!" You doubted the world would explode. "So, if I have regrets, it means I'd have to be willing to give up everything I have now to change them. And..." She leaned against you, watching the sun slip beneath the earth, and the stars form, creating a cosmically night. "... I'm not willing to give up what I have now. Not now, not ever~". You wrapped your arm around Kogasa. She might've been a bit naive, and her word choice was a bit goofy, but she could be a bit introspective when she wanted to. God you loved this umbrella.

"I love you... So much..."

Meanwhile, from inside the shrine...

"Hey Kanako, come look, they're cuddling in the sunset! Isn't that romantic~"

"Oh, silence you."

"Do you think they'll start kissing and tumbling together in the grass? Right on these holy grounds?"

"Shut up you damn frog, let me drink my sake in peace!"

Hope you Anons have a great Wednesday, and treat your umbrellas well. Hopefully next thread there can be many sweet Kogasa stories again.

OK now its all

Kogasa's slumber came to a sudden and abrupt end when something loud slammed, shaking her. Groggy and disoriented, she attempted to recollect herself. She was... at her desk, she fell asleep there if the drool was anything to indicated. But... She lifted her head, vision bright, before things began to fade into view.

"... can truly be called..." The voice seemed to fade in and out of focus, and the figure hard to see. The item that woke her was... A cage! "... Hey...stening to..." A cage had been placed on her desk, waking her! But why? Maybe... Oh yeah, she was a blacksmith! And... Why yes, this cage indeed appeared busted in areas! So it seemed that- "HEY!"

Kogasa lifted her head, her vision having fully recovered. A woman with pink hair and a bandaged arm stood before her, looking down at her. Oh! She recognized this woman! It was Ibaraki Kasen, that hermit lady! Well, one of the many hermit ladies, there were a lot in Gensokyo these days. "Were you listening to me at all?" She scolded.

"I.. Um... Y-Yes, I..." Kogasa still felt a bit disoriented from having just woke up. Kasen sighed.

"I needed you to fix up some of the animal cages I use, but I heard from Youmu and that journalist that you hadn't been working on anything here for a while now. I come here and the first thing I see is you snoozing away on the desk! What kind of blacksmith even has a desk?" Kasen stepped away and looked around Kogasa's forge. "And this place is in such disarray! Tools lying everywhere, dust and ash all over the floor, when was the last time you've cleaned up?

"Well, you see, I... It's been kinda slow lately." It was a half truth. In full truth, Kogasa just hadn't felt passion recently, she had begun to let things sort of slip, and fall away. As she got further and further behind in her work, she felt less and less drive to do anything. She couldn't scare anyone, and now she couldn't even pick up her hammer, the one thing she was actually good at. It made her feel...

Kasen sighed a second time, looking at the umbrella leaning over her desk. "Well, I certainly can't leave you in this sort of state, and it doesn't do anyone good to have the best blacksmith lazing about all day." Kasen made a thinking pose, though in truth Kasen had already decided what she would do before even entering the smithy. "Alright! I've decided I'm going to be sticking around her until you're whipped up back into shape!"

"E-Eh? Whipped?"

"That's right! Whipped hard!" Kogasa didn't like the sound of that, as she grabbed a broom tossed her direction. "Now, let's get started! The first thing place needs to facilitate proper workflow is to be clean and tidy! We're deep cleaning this entire place from top to bottom!" Kasen flashed a thumbs up with her bandaged arm. "Let's get to it!"

And so began Kasen's mission to bring the umbrella back to peak form and beyond.

I feel less and less confident in this as I write so I'm just going to post it before I can delete it out of shame.

------

You can't believe she roped you into this, messing with teacher is never going to end up well. But she did offer to make you anything you wanted at her smithy in return. She probably thinks you will just ask her to make a new pot for your mother or something. No, you want a real sword so you can brave the forest of magic and be a real hero!
For now however, you have to play nice with this weak tsukumogami so you can use her to start your adventures.

"Hey, are you even listening to me!"
You are shaken from your thoughts as the blue haired girl smacks you with her purple umbrella and looks at you with a big frown on her face.
"I said, do you think she will really fall for this, making a doll as bait is a pretty good idea, but shouldn't we make it look like one of her students instead?"
She points to the doll you just placed on a small rock, it's humanoid and slightly taller than a kid. It's wearing a white shirt with red baggy pants which are covered in patches that are sewn in to the fabric.
You take a small moment to marvel at the handiwork of the doll and almost wonder out loud how she got them made so well.

When you turn back to face the umbrella which just assaulted your face you put aside any thoughts of praising her. Instead, you explain your plan to her yet again.
"She would simply call out and get suspicious when her student wouldn't answer her, with this she will be tempted to sneak up on her friend and not pay attention to her surroundings"
You point to a spot between the rock and the road to the village.
"And when she falls in you can drop the doll in after her as a bonus scare, a guaranteed thing"

You puff out your chest a bit, being proud of your plan. A plan that is not entirely original, as you have seen something similar happen before.
One day you had been testing the edges of the village as a way to scout places for future adventures and you happened to see your teacher quietly sneak up on some odd looking person with scraggly clothes covered in patches.
They seemed friendly enough after the surprise greeting, but you never got close enough to hear what they were talking about. You weren't meant to be that close to the edge of the village anyway so you headed home after that, marking the area in your memory as a place to avoid if you didn't want to get caught by teacher.

And now you were back at that same spot, just because this weird girl had heard you brag about how nothing could surprise you.
How she thought that meant you were a master of surprises was still a bit of a mystery to you.

"Hmm, I guess that makes sense. Lets hope this works, I haven't eaten in a good while"
Both the umbrella frown at that odd remark, but quickly perk up.
"Okay, I think we should go hide. School is almost certainty over by now, and she should be heading this way today!"
As you are pulled along to the nearby bushes you hope she is right about her coming this way, you wouldn't want to repeat carrying the doll all the way over here too many times.

"Okay, now be quiet and don't let anyone see you"
The girl whispers to you, with her purple umbrella clearly poking out of the bush.
"And you better lay down that umbrella if you don't want to be seen"
You quietly hiss back at her in retort.

With that you both settle in to quietly wait and you are left alone with your thoughts as you stare into the path were teacher should soon show up.
For the first time you ponder why it doesn't bother you that this fairly pretty girl is right next to you, when you last tried to play with the girls at the village you couldn't get a word out. Maybe it's the freakish umbrella that seems to always be watching you or her heterochromatic eyes, but she seems more like a weak monster than a girl to you.
You wonder if being more scared of girls than of monsters is a good thing, it must be since a hero shouldn't fear any monster!

A short while passes as you two are suddenly spooked by a sound from the left of where you were watching the road.
"What's this then? Did Keine bring me a new set of clothes?"
Both of you quickly turn in shock to you see what looks like a second doll walking towards the first one.
You both stare at it with your mouths a gape before it dawns on you that it's going to walk right on top of the pit trap.
"NO, DON'T!" you yell out just a second too late.

It all happened so fast, first the second doll turns to look at you just as it steps on the pit trap.
Second you realize it's a human, and she looks at you in puzzlement as she starts to fall in.
Thirdly you hear a sickening snapping sound as the girl hits the bottom of the pit.

You both sprint over to the edge of the pit and peer in, what you see is horrifying sight.
The girls neck is completely bent in the wrong direction, but her eyes seem to still be watching you.
However, before you can even scream something grabs you and the girl from behind and lifts you both up with ease.
"Now who do we have here, I don't think I saw you at school today young mister" You hear a familiar stern voice scold you.

As you recover from the shock and are carried a little ways away from the pit by your teacher she starts to scold both you right there on the spot.
You try to stammer for an interruption at first, since you think the girl who fell in clearly needs help. But you are shot down before you can get a word in and get an earful on how to behave and how childish pranks like these are dangerous.
Right as teacher seems to be getting into full speed she is interrupted by a hand from behind tapping her on the shoulder.
"Come on Keine, it was just a harmless prank. I'm sure they have learned their lesson already"
It's the girl from the pit, you stare at her in amazement and blurt out "How are you alive?"

This gets a look from all three present, teacher seems to be offended and gives you a stern look while the weird girl just gives you a wide grin.
The umbrella girl however seems to have hidden behind you at some point and side eyes you with a small whisper of "what are you doing?"
Right as it looks like your teacher is about to start again the weird girl interrupts her. "Don't trouble your head about it, I'm fine now and that is all that matters. I would be more interested in who made the clothes on that doll back there, was that your handiwork little tsukumogami?"
Behind your back can be heard a sheepish "Yes"

With that you are ushered away by teacher while the two girls leave in the direction of the bamboo forest talking about clothes.
After walking in silence for a little while she asks an unexpected question from you.
"Why did you go along with Kogasa?"
When you give a confused look she continues with a wave of her hand. "That is her name, I thought you wanted nothing more than to defeat youkai and become a hero. Did you change your mind?"
You blush a little at that and stammer for a response "I... uh. She promised to help me defeat evil youkai!"

Teacher just smiles at your little outburst and ushers you forward without a word.
As you walk the long road back you wonder to yourself if Kogasa would still make a weapon for you if you asked.

I have a question, is a post like this preferred for stories or should I only post a ghostbin link instead?

Anyway, here is a little story featuring Meiling and Kogasa:
https://ghostbin.com/3T1Xz

The day was as serene as always, a slight breeze brushed against me as I let out a big yawn.

As usual the mistress was resting during the day so I was going to repel any unwanted guests post haste.

Unlike usual however, there had been no guests all day. So the boredom was starting to get the better of me.

"Wonder what Sakuya has made for dinner today. Guarding against nothing is almost as hard as dealing with the ice fairy or that magician, I think I deserve a reward for doing such a good job today"

I start muttering to myself so I don't start falling asleep again.

"Maybe I could sneak in a small exercise routine to keep myself active. I know Sakuya told me that the gate guard should always be dignified and doing jumping jacks in front of the gate is not allowed, but surely she won't mind."

Thinking like this I almost miss the small Qi signature that has been approaching me for a short while now, it's coming from the nearby bushes so it's probably another fairy. Taking a deep breath I steel myself for another childish prank.

Suddenly it sprints forward and I take a fighting stance, ready to repel any pranks or hostile-intent.

"BERO BERO BAA!"

A big purple umbrella greets me as I look into it's big red eye dumbfounded.

"Huh?"

"Oh come on, I totally had you! Why aren't you more surprised!" As the umbrella is lifted from my field of view I can see that it's Kogasa who is looking at me with an angry expression on her face.

"Sorry about that I guess. You know it's not really possible to sneak up on me right?" I let my stance relax as I turn to face the fuming umbrella ranting at me.

"It's not fair I tell you, I totally had you! I practiced that expression for hours you know, it's hard to pull expressions with just one eye. Are you sure you weren't just asleep again?" The angry umbrella turns an accusing gaze at me with that last comment.

"I can assure you that was not the case, I simply felt your presence. Are you here just to practice your scares then or did you have something you needed?" I get ready to try and turn her away before she makes more of a ruckus that might wake the mistress.

"Yeah yeah, presence schemence. I bet you were just asleep again because that scare was totally a success." With that comment Kogasa puts her other hand on her hip and puffs her chest out a bit before she continues.

"But enough about that, I came here for another reason. You left me some tools a little while back and I'm coming to return them" With this she takes off a small back bag she was carrying and sets it down in front of me.
"Some real quality tools these and well taken care of too. Never seen anything like them, they had many a tale to tell about your homeland. Apparently you can grow something called a Qiézi that looks like me."

I take the back bag and open it up. Inside are the gardening tools I left with Kogasa not more than a week ago, all in pristine condition.
"That was pretty fast, you sure work fast. And the work is excellent as well, I can't thank you enough."
I place the bag down next to me and offer my thanks with a bow to Kogasa.

"There is no need to be so formal, just keep taking good care of them and bring them to me once in a while. I would like to hear more of their stories."

"You said something like that when I left them with you as well, are these tools sentient then? Should I take any extra measures when using them?"

"Oh they are not interested in becoming like me, apparently they like you too much. Just keep using them and taking care of them like you have until now, they said nothing would make them happier than being held in your skilled hands"

I'm shocked to hear such comments from my own tools and steal another glance at the bag.

Before I can retort Kogasa continues with a smile.
"Hehe, they said that would work! Thank you for your payment miss gate keeper and have a nice evening." With that Kogasa spins around and leaves humming a tune to herself.

And just like that, I was bested by the karakasa-obake.

I'm a rank amature, nothing compared to the original anon who made the big Good End story. That said, I do find writing these to be relaxing and would encourage everyone else to give it a go, be it for Kogasa or any other 2hu.
If you don't mind posting a ghostbin link I would like to read your Medicine story, even if it is off topic.

A thread dedicated to short stories would be neat, but I doubt it could live given the current situation of the board. Maybe some time later if things calm down or if meidos ever decide to clean things up.

Would love for a MUGEN author to make some rad sprites based off her design in 17.5 at least. Or for something like Rivals of Aether I guess.
