3733736 No.3733736 [Reply] [Original]

Ryukishi07 is doing partial screen writing for KEY's upcoming game "Rewrite"
Rewrite is set in the fictional city Kazamatsuri where treeplanting and afforestation have caused the city to become overgrown with trees and flowers in much the same way that other cities are filled by buildings. However, while most of the city appears to be rural, there are many traditional city elements as well. While set in a modern setting, the city also gives off a strange sense of nostalgia. The basis of the story is set in a high school setting. The first half of Rewrite primarily consists of the characters interacting in many everyday, enjoyable scenes. The latter half, however, is more serious, emotional, and carries a sense of mystery to the plot.
TL;DR
Prepare to have the awesome mysteries of Higurashi and Umineko combined with the "baaaaaaaaaaaaaw" of Kanon and Clannad.

Remember the Aokigahara threads, /jp/?

I'm calling the Witch of the Forest now.

But Maeda isn't doing rewrite.

We sure didn't know that, OP! And the main reason I want to read Rewrite is Romeo, anyway.

I'm more excited by Romeo's involvement than by Ryukishi's.

Who is Romeo and what stuff/scenarios has he written?

Nice Romeomind there. I don't quite like him but I can't say he's bad at all. Their VN are just not my kind of thing.

YMK and Cross Channel are the only translated ones.

The game received its title because after Ryukishi and Tonokawa are done writing it, that's what Romeo's going to have to do to the entire script to stop it from sucking

Those were written by Yamada Hajime, not Romeo. Yamada wrote one scenario in YMK iirc.

R7 mysteries are awkward enough on his own settings, putting them in KEY does not sound as alluring.

Rewrite will be a great mark in the VN English translation world. Whether or not Rewrite is translated will be the marker showing how far we have come.

If it's translated quickly, we will have a great boom.
If it's not translated or translated slower than other projects, we still have a long way to go.

I'm just thinking of the VN translations like the scanlation community and how it came about.

If we have enough people to get a new and popular game translated quickly, the community is getting closer to other English translation mediums.

>To some people, there is only one thing worse than anything they consider So Bad Its Horrible; people actually liking it.

>In a nutshell, a Fan Hater is someone in a Hatedom, who hates not only the work, but also the fans of that work.

>The thing is that to these people, art is Serious Business, and they treat their enjoyment of art the way some people take to competitive gaming. If you like anything not up to their standards, they will either mock you, mock that thing in front of your face, or just go on a diatribe about why you shouldn't like that thing. A common term that Fan Haters are fond of using, is "Lowest Common Denominator".

Looking forward to this. With Romeo on the project, I hope the writing isn't as unrealistic and convoluted as that of Cross Channel. Maybe Ryukishi can put some spice into this story. A murderer in a Key VN? Could be fascinating.

>>3735567
Cross Channel do have its share of haters, but I still think the writing in Cross Channel is fine. The comedy is amusing, the philosophical stuff contrasting the first and conveyed decently, though some can be overly long, like the H-scenes.

Ryukishi writes better? Well now, that's a minority opinion.

>> No.3735598

>>3735567
No, no it wouldn't. I hope Ryukishi leaves his convoluted mystery plots at the door for this one.

>> No.3735619

>>3735598
Then why would key want him to be involved in the first place? Convoluted mysteries are kinda his thing.

As for me, call me silly, but when I remember the guy who did YMK works on this, I feel very confident about the final quality.

>> No.3735676

You probably shouldn't judge Romeo solely on Cross Channel. Family Project, for example, is pretty much the opposite of unrealistic and convoluted.

I'm not. Just a little concerned. I know that with his descriptive skills he has potential to write really well.
