I thought you guys said Kanji is hard.

I've never said kanji is hard. I keep saying it's easy.

Kanji IS hard. Learn more than the basics and then you'll see.

>> No.3729643

Not really. Writing kanji is hard, sure. Just reading it is easy as hell.

>> No.3729680

>>3729643

Writing Kanji is easy. Stroke order is relatively consistent and are generally made up of other kanji.

Readings on the other hand, are not consistent.

>> No.3729727

Takes quite a while to learn them, and even Japanese people aren't quite sure how to draw some of them (in no small part because computers do it automatically).
Still, they can be memorized while you're learning the language, and once you know them they're quite handy. Occasionally you'll even stumble upon a word that you don't know, but will understand anyway because of the kanji's meaning.

>> No.3729758

Kanji is hard unless your a chink. China stole kanji from Japan and use it as their national language.

>> No.3729759

It's only hard because there are so many and you feel overwhelmed.

Really, it's not terribly difficult, so long as you take it in moderation and realize that it's not going to be something that you can burn through in a year.

Stupid primitive shit, you guys have way too much time on your hands if you study kanji.

How is kanji any different from ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics?

>> No.3729789

Hieroglyphics were used for phonetic spelling eventually.

>> No.3729791

>>3729772

You don't seem to understand just how complex Egyptian writing was.

>> No.3729805

I thought Kanji were hard until I actually started to learn them. It didn't take long for them to stop looking like a bunch of random scribbly lines that all look the same, into distinctive, structured ones.

>> No.3729829

I like Kanji because it makes me feel intelligent knowing them, considering how many people fail at, or don't even attempt to learn the language because of it.

This is also part of the reason why I'd hate to see Japanese Romanized.

>> No.3729850

>>3729805
Yeah same here. A lot of the complaining about kanji comes from people who haven't even tried to learn them.

Look at this.

niwano niwaniwa niwa niwatoriwa niwakani wanio tabeta
にわのにわにはにわとりはにわかにわにおたべた
丹羽の庭には二羽鶏は俄に鰐を食べた
Two chickens in Mr. Niwa's garden suddenly ate an alligator.

That's all the same thing written in: romanized japanese, all hiragana, hiragana with kanji and the english meaning. This isn't a sole example because there are so many homophones in the japanese language.

>> No.3729964

>>3729939
Why is their language so shitty for?

Even the sand niggers and Jews have a better language.

>> No.3729965

>>3729883
They could do without kanji, of course, but there's few reasons why they'd want to. You can learn kanji while you're learning the language with very little effort, and it usually allows a much higher amount of text compared to regular kana. It also makes reading more efficient.
>>3729892
All languages are primitive. Japanese happens to be the 10th or 11th most used language in the world and, if your interests are mostly based on Japanese games, media or whatnot, it'd be almost foolish *not* to learn.

I'm raised from young to be proficient in both chinese and english. I started learning japanese recently, and its easy as shit because I already know most of the kanji.

saying that any language is better than any other language is basically declaring "I speak only one language and thus everything else must suck"

The same could be said for every language. Should I go learn French/Chinese/Korean so I can read a few interesting books they wrote or watch a few interesting movies they made?

Sure, not every shitty obscure VN that you people will masturbate over and then forget about a week later gets translated, but more than enough do, and if they don't, they just weren't good enough and are probably better left unread in the first place.

If you've learned Japanese, you should know how limited it is in comparison to English.

I think Japanese is beautiful to listen to, but the language itself is very limited. It can't even handle foreign words.

>>3730076

>The same could be said for every language. Should I go learn French/Chinese/Korean so I can read a few interesting books they wrote or watch a few interesting movies they made?

If you're as invested into their media as much as many of you are into Japanese media, it would make sense to do so.

That's a rather extreme opinion.
I find that only a small fraction of "stuff worth playing/reading" gets translated, and even then translations almost never attain the quality of the original.
If you're content with what few things get translated and the lowered quality, good for you, you're saving a lot of time and effort. Learning a new language isn't easy.
For me and a lot of other people it's totally worth it.

You are a Psych major; and are taking Japanese, if you think that that rapes your GPA you should go take some CHEM, MATH, and ENSC courses. Then you can learn what HARD really means in the context of school.

You've got what, like 2 classes a day?

I've got 6-10 hours of school every day of the goddamn week and then 6-9 more of homework every night (ignoring projects). I even have assignments due every day of the weekends thanks to online submissions systems. ENSC is Lunatic mode bro.
