Why is everyone on /jp/ suddenly fascinated by Lain? You never talked about her before.

What the fuck are you talking about? She's been talked about before quite often, although the last thread I remember was like over a year ago. And I'm not sure why you're calling a single thread a sudden fascination for the entirety of /jp/

/jp/ was always fascinated by Lain. We just don't talk about /a/ material here.

Umineko excepted.

the sounds, cursors and the like are from a random lain desktop theme.

It's just another window manager, not very interesting.

Lain, on the other hand is quite the fascinating character.

Since Lain is also a Lisper, a true "Lain OS" would have to be a modern Lisp OS that we've all dreamed of. Too bad there's a bunch of those, either dropped or stalled. At least there's Genera (the original Lisp OS), but not like anybody would write new code based on it due to its age and that it would be a major porting effort from ZetaLisp to CommonLisp, and not to mention all the damn copyright issues. I suppose the closest one can get to modern "Lisp OS"'es are things like McCLIM (GUI) and Movitz(low-level).

Speaking of Lain, what did she even become in the end?

>> No.3728479

>>3728471
A NEET.

>> No.3728608

>>3728471

she became a transcendent entity. she transcended the wired, and the real world, but just as well, erased herself from it to exist outside it, watching always.

its safe to assume that there were traces of her existence left over, because in a scene at the end, arisa sees her and recognizes her vaguely, but cant remember where from. she is older though, and lain is still the same. they pass by, and arisa passes it off as strange coincidence.
