Man VNs are a really bad medium for my savior complex. I spent an entire route helping a heroine get over her trauma, solve her problems and finally put a smile on her face, only to start another route where all her character development got reset and now she's back to treating me like a stranger and eating lunch alone in the corner while crying herself to sleep every night as I fuck another girl.

I thought I got the good end by winning the fight. I thought it would end in a jiffy with a few moege scenes, happy first time H, roll credits.
But then it hit me. The long con. I was literally shaking when Haruna didn't bleed. All the previous things like hard breathing in the phone and sleeping in the same tent as (my) father could have been explained as bait. But they got me. This is some real heavy NTR. 9 hours in and I am utterly devastated from this, and I'm saying this as a long-time NTR enjoyer. It really really packs a punch when you have this long of a set-up.

Popular and recent releases have higher overlap of people who've read them, so naturally they'll garner more discussion. It's not pleasant but it comes with the territory when you want to discuss untranslated japanese works on an english imageboard.

To many people "Musicus" will seem uninviting, in places unbridgeable in its execution. But one cannot deny that it is at least an interesting work, which can be viewed from different perspectives. For example, from the perspective of a Setoguchi fan. Or a follower of Overdrive. Or maybe you just happened to wander in because her rock 'n' roll theme interested you.
Somewhere at the bottom of this food chain, at the absolute bottom, which is already impossible to penetrate, languish individuals who have read Musicus in order to challenge its acclaim. Such people usually go straight for the "hot stuff" without having read any of Overdrive's other works. They like to throw around fancy words like "ranking," words they themselves know nothing about. They see the letters in a work, but they don't understand what they mean.
How do I know? This is evident in the utterly nonsensical, uninformed, rotten reviews in which they base their entire analysis on whether the characters' actions are logical as they see them. They are the ones who attribute "pretentiousness" to any work that tries to do something more than is required of it.
And after all, "doing something more than is required of you" is almost the main motif of Musikus. In the prologue, we learn that the hero got into a serious scandal at his last school. The guy only got hurt because he decided to do what he thought was right in his conscience. Kay wanted to prove to the world that he did not live by the common-sense truth and was unwilling to bow down to such "normality.

When Musicus was still in development, bamboo admitted that he would rather walk off into the sunset of his own free will than wait for the company's slow death.
