Jrpgs have little to no inovashun.

Also the only reason they exist is because of Wizardry or whatever the fuck it was called. The Dragon Quest creator just stole everything from it, and is the reason why we have PRESS X TO WIN GAMES.
Would post the copy pasta but i dont have it.

Wasn't Ragewars that old fighting where you played as raptors and shit?

And lack of PRESS X TO WIN

I enjoy my manly leads thank you very much. Id rather not have a nancy boy be the protagonist.

Is the "new" RSaga actually hard, or only "hard" by PRESS X TO WIN generic JRPG standards? I haven't gotten around to playing it yet...

Oh, yeah. that game was awesome (concept wise)

No, but non-linearity and customization certainly makes an RPG experience better, rather than being forced through a 45 hour experience playing a whiny as shit lead like Tidus, some kind of inane romance with a lame-as-shit female lead with possible no way out, 44 hours of cutscenes instead of actual gameplay.

Oh, and grinding. Can't forget grinding.

Many of the most distinctive features of JRPGs (e.g. pregenerated characters, linearity, "plot death" being different from "combat death") actually come from a phase of pen-and-paper D&D module design that was popular in the mid-1980s, exemplified by the Dragonlance series. Ultima and Wizardry are only half of the story (and Dragon Quest owes a LOT more to Ultima than to Wizardry in any case)

I like both. :3

I would take a Elder Scrolls game over generic JRPG X any day

If you mean the one that came out like...2 years ago (damned if I keep up with the series, I just played the one), it was pretty fucking hard. The enemies level with you so it ends up being that if you grind, regular enemies are insanely tough while the bosses (who don't level up with you) are like cake. Takes strategy, I must have run at the final boss 10 times on my first playthrough.

Minstrel Song is hard like SaGa hard. It means you need to study the system like crazy or you're like "what the hell is going on here? The leveling, it does nothing. Blarg"
