It speaks well of your skill if your artstyle is recognizable between mediums.
I can't draw for shit on paper but do much better digitally, but the skill gap is big enough that the two don't look like they're from the same guy. Not sure how common that problem is for digital-only artists.

I seem to have the exact opposite problem. I've been drawing for digitally way longer but tend to have an easier time drawing on paper. Style looks practically identical, however, just feel like I work way faster on paper and get more confident lines down.

And i kinda forgot the page where drawing happend and i also assumed that it died along with threads.

But i can kinda understand why there is none of those threads around. They would probably get vandalized by some people like they did back then and even more so currently, considering current state of /jp/, even though currently its not as bad as it was jan-feb.

>And i kinda forgot the page where drawing happend
I think it's called flockmod now, search the archive.

>>37196012
I think you're talking about the OC threads, and those haven't been made because no one has made one in a while and when they do, they don't bother to make a proper opening, they just write something dumb that makes it seem like one of /a/'s drawthreads or something. I don't do it myself because even though I like them, I'm more likely to make a thread like OP with a fixed theme. (example >>/jp/thread/S10871786))

>/jp/ has had Flockdraw threads for years now.
/jp/ has had vtuber, idol, monstergirl, seiyuu, and /djt/ threads for years now, and people still call them not-/jp/, so what? Most of the artists in /jp/ have always come from other places and mostly just used /jp/ to post art that's relevant to it. It's a bigger problem in the OC threads which would usually end up a bunch of namedropping and shitflinging halfway through despite no one ever saying any sort of name in the threads, but I guarantee you those guys you miss are on /ic/ or some shit /jp/ spinoff. Hell, a lot of older artists went off to 八chan when that was first a thing which goes to show you how /jp/ they were.

Anyway, the point is they were never hardcore tru-/jp/sies, using discord wouldn't be any greater heresy.

I agree about namedrops and OC threads being total shit, but pure anonymous collaborative drawing can be pretty great. I used to do it on /vp/ years ago, there wasn't any circlejerking really just some afterparties in music streaming chatrooms and a few shared steam accounts when it was all over. Maybe those were an exception.
Also vtubers are the only threads I'd call not-/jp/ now because there's an entire board dedicated to them, feel about as annoying as ponyfags leaking out of /mlp/.

I think part of it is just because of the (lack of) colors, with them it's way clearer I think.

Where do you find time to practice drawing if you aren't a NEET? I don't mean just doodling here and there, but actual studies and drills.
I'm curious if any of you have a practice schedule of some kind.

I can't really tell you since I went "I wanna learn how to draw!" when I was around 12, so I had enough time to draw after school etc.

I'd say at first what's important is just that you draw often (/a lot) so your hand learns how to draw lines the way you want to, and for your head to be able to learn stuff through repetition.
Breaks can be good, of course, for the knowledge to set in and give you a breather!

I don't think it's necessary to draw like, 5 hours a day, though, if you do 30~60mins a day you're good to go for sure.
Don't mind if your pictures don't look amazing right away, and instead of getting hung up on one picture, if you see something you don't like about a pic, go "next time I'll focus on making that one thing better!"
If you repeat that a bunch, in the end you'll have a lot of pics to look back on and every time you'll have something else you tried to "improve a little bit the next pic", gradually helping you improve!

At least that's what I think should work lol

I don't know now, but back when I did things I was more productive. Think something like "If I have time to watch anime/shitpost/cook/sit around being bored/play games/get drunk then I have time to draw". If your life is work 14 hours a day and then sleep, or finishing up university, or raising your wife's children, then you're going to have to put it to the side for a while and spend your free time reevaluating your life.

I wish I could be content with shorter sessions. For me it's either draw the whole day or don't draw at all.

Kind of same, but I think it's something you have to force yourself to. My problem is that if I start drawing, it's usually around 10PM, and then I rarely stop before 4~6AM. So generally drawing for me is a "Hey, how hard do I want to fuck my sleeping schedule"-type of thing.

>>37253362
Thank you!... in a good way? I've only really started puttin in the effort of colouring most of my pics a few years ago, and for a good while have been kinda winging it with every new pic I've done. But I'm happy if the my colouring has seemingly improved!

I won't, sorry.
Reason I got into Tewi pp is because I wanted to draw Tewi get dicked, but then figured "hey if I draw 2 lolis and give one a dick, I don't need to draw some random buff dude / fat ugly bastard!" - And since Tewi is 100% the dom type I gave her the dick. But I love every type of Tewi, she's been my waifu since 2009, I just think I "add more for the Tewi lovers" if I provide a type of Tewi that's not as represented (and that's a lot more the case than female Tewi). Also has some extra sort of "personal flair" I guess? That's me being selfish, though.

Oh yea, I'm not sure what I wanna do with noses in general desu.
I think the noses I draw got "influenced"(?) the most by Soul Eater back when it aired (pic related but spoilered due to being generally off-topic), and kind of transformed from there to just the sort of horizontal line.
I tried doing "dot" noses and vertical line ones, but they always look weird to me. Maybe because I've done the type of noses I've drawn for a good while now, so others just look off... Not sure if I should try and change them either though, do they look "off-putting" in general?

>faces being entirely on the lower half of the head makes the head look gigantic
Hmmm, yea, kinda. The head shapes I draw generally have the eyes in the middle of the face (as in, positioned "more correctly" I guess), but I tend to make the hair floof out pretty far from the scalp, so that's what probably makes the face look "weird". I'll look into it I think, thanks for the feedback / ideas!

Oh right, I forgot to add this;
I don't have my tablet at hand right now, but have this incredibly detailed mouse-drawn image of the head outline / estimate along with facial feature positioning. I think at that stage at least it doesn't look all too "crammed".
Also, I think longer chins work better for more adult-looking characters (or teens at least), but Tewi is a (in my pics 132cm short) loli gremlin after all...
Still, I'll keep an eye on it!

>> No.37256912

It looks better with the larger eyes. Maybe consider making them squint toward the middle instead of bringing the top down. The core of the problem is simply the nose dot lining up with the bottom of the eyes instead of being below them.

That's not how it works. You either have the talent and creativity or you don't, case in point these little Japanese toddlers can draw better than 99% of the ADULTS in this very thread and you bet none of these children needed to take a single art class or read muh Loomis.

kids who can draw without formal art training have been drawing for fun every day for years. most people just never bother.

unless you're in a small and unfortunate portion of the population with cripplingly bad hand-eye coordination or whatever, passion or discipline will eventually get you to the level of an amateur good enough for party tricks.

I feel so jealous of those people who are able to draw well, as opposed to my dumbass, who can't even write a sentence legibly. This thread has got me closer to Parsee the I ever thought I would. I hate people who think an individual can just draw, not seeing the undertaking it is for someone not gifted with such skills.
I also hate being jealous, as my body start spasming and my mind is filled with thoughts of murder, and self-hatred.

>> No.37809778

It's a waste of time to get jealous at good artists. Their work is the result of dedication and constant practice. Talent is only a matter of how quickly you can absorb that knowledge, not a decisive trait.
>I would love to create physical manifestations of some of my ideas, instead of having them float in my head.
Then start, and if you already have then keep drawing diligently. Hell, seeing all the wonderful Touhou art is what got me into drawing in my early 20s.

It is depressing that so many people have been convinced that to draw you need to almost have an entirely different brain from the rest of humanity. The truth of the matter is is that drawing is a discipline and the result of constant practice. The reason why some people struggle to learn is because, unfortunately, they've never been taught the appropriate tools to practice with. Imagine a car mechanic trying to learn how to repair entire cars with nothing but a wrench (no nuts & bolts, no spare parts etc), it would be impossible. Practically almost every art teacher will tell you that mileage and practice matter far more than talent. The secret to practicing how to draw properly is to completely change the way you analyse objects around you.
Take this drawing by Rubens, beautiful, right? Well, Rubens is also commonly cited as having said "you can draw anything using a sphere, a cone, and a box." And this philosophy can be found in practically almost any art book (Vilppu, Huston, Hampton, Han etc). And if you really look at this drawing again, you can see that this arm is made up of practically nothing but eggs (spheres) branching out into tiny tendons (basically cylinders one could say). Don't let the pretty rendering trick you.
When an artist looks at a tank, he breaks it down like a sculptor would. For example: "The turret is just a sphere that was cut in half, the hull is a box with a sloped front plane" etc etc. This sounds weird because you don't see a clear box or a cylinder in their drawings, but the "logic" of those shapes are still there. I want to leave you with this quote from Steve Huston:

I hope for you countless little improvements throughout a long and fruitful life. Art wants you for the long haul. Pace yourself. An athlete is old at thirty-four. Artists are
catching their stride at sixty.
Whatever your dream is, try this: Draw for five minutes a day. Draw a tube. Draw a figure. Draw the eye of a figure or whatever you can draw in five minutes. Do that for two weeks and only that. If you miss a day or two, forgive yourself and start again. When you’ve accomplished those, make it ten minutes a day. Do that for another week. The strange and wondrous thing about the human condition is each of us needs to motivate
ourselves to become the person we really want to be. Motivate! It’s usually about forming good habits ...
How many hours do five minutes every day over twenty years equal? A lot. Be in it for the long term. And when you’re not drawing with a pencil, draw with your eyes. See the world as an artist because you are an artist. Be modest in your goals, at first. Five minutes a day and soon you’ll be putting in the long hours without even thinking about it. Why? Because you proved weeks ago who you really are! So, I wish for you those small improvements. Because, then, I know you’ll be making new ones next year and the year after that, just like I will be.
I’ll know both of us are making our world a little more beautiful, five minutes at a time.

>An athlete is old at thirty-four. Artists are catching their stride at sixty
I don't fully agree with the hyperbole, but art definitely requires patience and attention. Too many beginners want results immediately and neglect fundamentals, then wonder why they never improve. The process should be draw, analyze faults, study, redraw with new knowledge, repeat.
