Some reports say that the guy who attacked him has begged Takeshi to take him under his wings because he wants to work in the showbiz, some reports say the guy is a yakuza member. Many other articles are linking the latter to old rumors and old incidents that happened to Takeshi in the past. Some articles I read were linking this incident to the other rumors we've been hearing about Takeshi since him moving away from Office Kitano, to him marrying his current wife and Takeshi Gundan, his longtime staff and his manager leaving him.

I think he's essentially ruined for life at this point, so I don't care if he's making a bit more money. All he can spend it on is prostitutes, the vaguely attractive women he wants to court wouldn't be seen dead with him at his current pay grade. He'd need to be a millionaire to make up for his insanely creepy behaviour.

He apologized in a press conference, took a break from his activities for a few months and then resumed normally. Actors are unlike actresses, they don't get as much shit as actresses when they have affairs because female fans will still like them for their good-looking faces, they'll overlook infidelity. Actresses who have affairs on the other hand will lose male fans and become the enemy of females (women, y'know) so it's harder for them to make a comeback. It's even extra harder for young actresses who fucked up this early in their careers.

Sorry for such a spoonfeed-y question. But can anyone recommend some 'classics'.
Like on the level of how star wars (OG 3), pulp fiction, blade runner, forrest gump etc movies are considered in western media.
In the OP pastebin recommendations there are a few i will try, but it was a lot of comedy/romance/drama in that list. So would love maybe some more adventure/action/thriller type suggestions (or sci-fi).

Yeah I've listened to it too and he's completely right. Miyazaki Hayao is an extremely overrated hack, his best work was Future Boy Conan, the rest were average to fine. My favorite director (Oshii Mamoru) also shares the same opinion.
>I've never seen them but apparently his movies are awful?
They're great, just not for everyone. I've seen many people get filtered by his last 2 movies.

Because she was gori-oshi pushed very hard when she was a kid. If I'm not mistaken, I remember her ranking #1 on the most hated celebs ranking 10 years ago. I guess people hated how she was everywhere and the way she acted and carried herself on variety shows.

Does someone here know if the movies that are streaming on amazon.jp are guaranteed to have japanese subtitles? And if not, can someone recommend me a streaming site that does provide japanese subtitles or even better a rescource to find japanese subtitles on their own?

>> No.36591740

>>36591163
Prime has no real subtitle options in Japanese, it's a waste of time. Netflix offers subtitling on 99.99% of its content, I think I encountered 1 movie that didn't have subtitles in Japanese.

I haven't tried the other options because "lol you need JP bank account buddy", but given how terrible things like Tver are, I doubt that Hulu and some of the Japanese streaming options are any better. More recently I've found a temporarily free IPTV called YoiTV which offers subtitling on just the AT-X channel, which is nice.

Japanese subtitle availability in general is atrocious, it's only improved slightly in recent years thanks to Netflix, who actually have the ability to negotiate for subtitle files shows had when they were airing and never since. For example, Eureka Seven. This show came out like 15 years ago, had subs while it was airing, and those subs weren't ever ripped. When the series came out on DVD, and on BD, they never bothered including the subtitles. Why? Who fucking knows why, the Japanese despise deaf people or something. Netflix buying the rights to the show is the only reason they're available these days.

What kind of live action genres does Japanese TV have outside children's superhero shows? Is it all soap operas, news, anime made into dramas, talk shows, and game shows? Do they have sitcoms, fantasy, sci fi, reality TV(like Cops, not like Big Brother), or what? I didn't mean about cops in particular, just real as in about real people doing things as opposed to reality game shows.

My expectations were merely something like the old Herculues or Xena or Highlander or Buffy or Charmed series. Not very high, and probably about onmyouji or martial artists or something. I was going to use Supernatural as an example but forgot to write it.

By sci-fi, I meant futuristic and/or about space. I would probably watch anime over live action for that anyway though. Actually I'm probably not watching anything not-anime but I was curious as to if Japan has a variety of live action programming or if it's just dominated by a handful of things.

If you're looking for series/franchises with deep lore and continuity, tv dramas are the last thing you'd look into. I can name such series/franchises but they're not tv dramas. If you want something akin to Star Trek when it comes to heavy lore, look up the many tokusatsu franchises Japan has.

I don't know what you mean by "western style" since you seem to use it in the same sentence to mean both western as in occidental and western as in American wild west. All I can say to that is US did make a lot of martial arts movies and oriental themed movies.

As for me, I was just saying I don't have any expectations of it not being cheap crud. Just wondering if there's some guy that goes around and cuts up youkai without having to transform into a bug or dinosaur themed outfit first. They've surely made series or movies about various legends that aren't just generic white clad ghosts.

The American and European mainstream's coverage of Asia has always been dominated by China's due to those regions significant Chinese immigrant population so obviously what comes to mind are Xiaolin crap. Ninjas are arguably the most recognizable Japanese premise, but played second fiddle to the Kung Fu. What I meant was like dramas that are set in Medieval Europe using Arthurian Legends as a base and things like that. For the reasons I already stated last post, there's not much interest locally.

In a serious note, many great Japanese directors aside form Oshii and Kitano do praise Hayao. Some of my favorites like Anno, Kunihiko Ikuhara and Watanabe Shinchiro mentioned Hayao as an inspiring figure or as a person they'd love to work with.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but...

I need help to search for a series I saw a small fragment on a convention a lot of years ago, that I remembered recently, and is now killing my head. From the fragment, the show was apparently about a game, and 2 characters were playing Russian roulette, it was some kind of glasses guy against a fat one, and seems like they were trying to trick the other to lose, glasses won(I think), and backstage he spoke with a girl, to whom explained he used the graphite of a pencil they received on another test to mark a part of the gun and trick the other on thinking that was gunpowder, and think he knew where the bullets were. The scene(And I'm not sure if the chapter) ended with the girl giving an inner monologue thinking than with glasses they had ensured the victory, but then realizing something that could made them lose. That's all I remember, not sure if it was Japanese or Korean DESU.

It's not weird if you knew his history with North Korea. His mentor is Rikidozan who was a North Korean. In 1995 his match with Ric Flair in North Korea drew the biggest crowd in professional wrestling history. He used to visit North Korea every year until 2019 to do wrestling shows and promote sports there. He even opened a sports NPO there in 2014. I remember when he made the Abe administration seethe so hard for his repeated trips to North Korea when he was a lawmaker in 2013, they even banned him from attending the diet for 30 days because of it. Despite that, he kept going there even during the time where North Korea were repeatedly sending their ballistics towards Japan's EEZ in 2017 which made the Abe administration go apeshit over it. Inoki is prolly the only Japanese person in history North Korea doesn't hate.

I feel focusing on other things they have been doing would be better. They ain't getting any younger, so shifting it away from overly physical stuff would be better for the 2 Ancient Ones. Matsumoto hasn't been the same since that hip issue was it? I think.
