Hey /jp/ old fags, old fag here.

I'm curious how your life went. It's been over 10 years now. Did you remain a NEET? Did you ever travel to Japan? Did you grow out of your /jp/ phase and stooped visiting? Did you learn Japanese? Did you give up? Did you an hero?

Tell me about your lives.

Sup.
I remembered the buyfag thread from 2011 and bought my first daki using that guide in 2012.
I was in high school then. A pretty dark time.
I'm not a NEET, but I still spend the majority of my free time in front of the computer with minimum human interaction.
Stopped watching new anime somewhere in 2014~2015. Now I just go back to the trusted series like Psycho-Pass or Death Parade whenever I feel like introducing someone to anime.
Still follow like a dozen manga series.
Nope, haven't made enough money to go to Japan.
Yes, I stopped visiting a long time ago.
Managed to learn a bit but now I have to focus on career-related certs.
A bit lonely depressed here and there but not too bad all in all.

Besides anyone remember a link to look up high-res image from multiple sources like zerochan, etc.?

I just go to work, socialize a bit here and there because of obligations, then go home like your average joe. Already stopped following anime and visiting image boards a long time ago though I still regularly read manga and practicing various anime songs I found interesting on guitar or bass just out of habit

Got my start in otaku hobby from playing various Japanese PS2 games and Ragnarok Online and fascinated by how pretty and cute their illustrations are. From there it's all down the rabbit hole like reading manga from Onemanga and Mangafox, following Bakatsuki regularly (when the only titles they have are early Baka to Test and Haruhi), and discussing anime and manga in online forums like animea. Nowadays I don't consider otaku things as a hobby honestly, it's just a thing I do out of habit and old habits do die hard

Mostly left but I come back when I feel like there might be something interesting. These days it's 07th expansion threads whenever I watch the new higurashi. Also left most other boards but will also come back to them from time to time
>Did you learn Japanese?
Nah. I've played several games in jp and even do translations for small stuff but I still feel like I don't know much, plus I can't talk/compose for shit.
>Did you give up? Did you an hero?
I wish. Life's mostly good but to say it's worth it would be a stretch.

It's been pretty great. I've been a NEET the past decade, never been to Japan because I have no desire to go, and I visit /jp/ occasionally but janny killed all the fun years ago so it's mostly trash. I know Japanese well enough to consume everything I want, so that's pretty nice too.

>> No.36156990

It's kind of, meh. Never went to Japan, never quite grew out of /jp/, just lurked more. I did try to learn Japanese in earnest but I gave up after a while. But whatever I did learn I used to translate 7 games in a single series (it was actually pretty neat when the actual dev showed up on /jp/ and two of the games got English releases). Now I mostly horde and play PC games.

I started coming here when I was 13. I've been out of HS for 4 years, working as a line cook in a Japanese restaurant, saving money to go to university in Japan but Corona fucked me over. Now I'm back in school for Engineering. If things go as planned I should be in Tokyo somewhere 3 to 4 years down the line. I stopped visiting imageboards in general as much as I used to back in HS but I like to pop in once every few days.
I'm actually getting back into anime and manga after having stopped back in 2015. Lots of kewl shit I have missed.
I have learned Japanese and most of the media I consume these days is in Japanese, especially books.

Life is good.

Not really, but I think that /jp/ elitism is stupid, because having a profound interest in Japanese anime culture does not make you superior to other people.

No

To be honest, Japan is way too romanticized by foreigners. Of course it is like my animes in most aspects, but they are mundane once you get used to it.

Still a NEET, I get autismbux from Rheumatism and I take it easy. I've been to Japan multiple times and I want to do the Shikoku pilgrimage next time the borders are open, I want to see all the beautiful scenery one day while I'm still young and while my body hasn't faltered to this disease yet.

I learned a bit of Japanese but I don't bother much, I just spend my time learning to draw and paint.

Japan is more and more dystopian by the day everytime I read about it's politics. I gave up on that otaku lifestyle long ago because it just made me depressed and locked in my own bubble. Right now I'm working part-time as a cashier at my local grocery store to build proper social skills that I missed out from all these years. And recently a life long friend came out to me and now we're dating. Life is good so far..

> Did you remain a NEET?
I was never a NEET, even I wish I were one. I have various weird diseases which are more than enough to make work or life in general painful but not enough to receice any kind of neetbux, so I just have to endure it.
A lot has changed in the last 10 years but at the same time things are still the same, I was in school back then, then got a job almost by accident which thankfully I can endure. Also the pandemic was a godsend and now I can partially work from home. If Kaguya is the icon of NEETs, Yamame should be the one of those working from the comfort of their home.

> Did you ever travel to Japan?
When I don't have to go to work I don't even leave the house, so how could I?

> Did you grow out of your /jp/ phase and stooped visiting?
No. /js/ has changed a lot but so did the rest of the Internet.
This board is one of the last places on the Internet that still retains some of that warm feeling of being among other people like you, sharing the same interests and enduring the same kind of lives.

> Did you learn Japanese?
I need to be way more serious about my learning but I made some good progress over the last few months. I feel like it'd be a waste to stop now after all the time and effort put into it.

> Did you give up?
I only think about giving up 50% of the time.

> Did you an hero?
The above number needs to reach 100% before I'm doing that.

Gomenasai, my name is Ken-Sama.

I'm a 27 year old American Otaku (Anime fan for you gaijins). I draw Anime and Manga on my tablet, and spend my days perfecting my art and playing superior Japanese games. (Disgaea, Final Fantasy, Persona series)

I train with my Katana every day, this superior weapon can cut clean through steel because it is folded over a thousand times, and is vastly superior to any other weapon on earth. I earned my sword license two years ago, and I have been getting better every day.

I speak Japanese fluently, both Kanji and the Osaka dialect, and I write fluently as well. I know everything about Japanese history and their bushido code, which I follow 100%

When I get my Japanese visa, I am moving to Tokyo to attend a prestigious High School to learn more about their magnificent culture. I hope I can become an animator for Studio Ghibli or a game designer!

I own several kimonos, which I wear around town. I want to get used to wearing them before I move to Japan, so I can fit in easier. I bow to my elders and seniors and speak Japanese as often as I can, but rarely does anyone manage to respond.

Wish me luck in Japan!

I found /jp/ in 2010 when I was in college. Then did some time as a NEET in 2012. Now I have a job and enough money to afford travel, but I kept delaying a trip to Japan. What would I do as a solo foreign traveler who doesn't even speak Japanese? I felt like I would need to meet up with someone there. So I did some international travel to Thailand twice because there was someone to meet there who could guide and translate, but Japan was still on my mind. Then the pandemic happened and Japan is still locking down. I don't feel hopeful for the future.

I still love Touhou characters and music but I'm more of a secondary now. I only ever cleared a game once and it was on normal with continues. Nowadays I spend a lot more time with vtubers.
