Hey /jp/
I'm thinking of picking up Windows 7. Before I do so, though, I'd like to know whether or not it supports japanese games.

I mean, with XP you have to enable japanese language support and non-unicode support, or use AppLocale. IIRC you didn't have those options in Vista.

So, before I commit to swapping XP for another OS (Can't be a cave-dwelling monkey forever) I'd like a heads up.

>> No.3608587

I've not had a problem with it.

>> No.3608588

I've had no problems with any of my VNs on Windows 7 x64. I do use Japanese locale at all times, of course.

>> No.3608590

You can use AppLocale in Vista, just need to turn off User Account Control and download the XP version.

>> No.3608591

No, the OS is only for America.

>> No.3608593

You get XP modo on 7 anyways, which solves any problem that could pop up.

>> No.3608594

you recall incorrectly, non unicode support works for Vista as well.
So wait, if I upgrade from Vista to 7 will I need to search for drivers and shit or will the boot from dvd take care of everything?

Vista drivers work for 7, although there are some (like video) that have 7 builds that may work better.

>> No.3608611

I've been using Applocale in Win7 for ages, like a 6 months or more...

>> No.3608615

Who told you that bullshit?
Everything works just fine in Vista. Though I imagine Win7 will be even better with the VM-based compatibility mode.

>> No.3608634

Also note than XP compatibility mode only comes with Professional or Ultimate.

>> No.3608638

>>3608634
Which is bullshit.

>> No.3608677

Windows 7 x64 with japanese locale works perfectly with everything I've tried, except Symphonic Rain which has some retarded compatibility issues so I had to execute the installer with Windows 95 compatibility mode. Yeah, don't ask me why but it seems that it happens to some people.

>> No.3608704

Windows 7 has the option of running an XP simulator that is essentially identical to XP so there shouldn't be an issue (unlike Vista).

Man, those swords are fucking huge.

I've gotten all of my Touhou games to work, though I had to change the compatibility options a bit for some of them. I don't use AppLocale, but I changed the non-unicode language to Japanese. Works fine.

>>3608594
It depends on your hardware. All of my drivers were installed just by running Windows Update, but YMMV.
