Not at all, if anything Irem is still alive and kicking. They are only keeping a low profile, but most of their iconic series get new episodes every so often, especially Disaster Report and R-Type.

And now that I think of it, what does Irem have to do with Metal Slug? Before being bought off by SNK, the developing team during its heydays was Nazca.
